Up front I just want to say thanks for the last year or so for all these helpful suggestions to improve MSFS2020. I have been following all of them to the letter, some helpful, some with mixed results. Deleting caches has been a regular routine for many of us out there it seems, shame on a software developer to make us go through so many hoops just to tolerate their product! What's next; delete the entire piece of software and reload fresh on every update????? No way, I'll delete it first, lol! In lieu of these efforts, it's undeniable that this awful piece of software continues to degrade performance with each and every update this year! If your system is just a couple years old in both processor and GPU, then your weathering the storm at a barely tolerable rate. The rest of us however, are not! My I7-9700K "seems to" be overburdened more and more with every passing update, however the data I have recorded does not exactly support this conclusion as I have contradicting data. (However I am not a software engineer and may not be looking at the most important data elements?) Also my RTX-3080Ti seems to never be breaking a sweat, (steady at 45-55% GPU load) then a transient during the CPU spike mentioned next; if you can believe the data I have recorded over the 2 years since the purchase. Ironically though the data also shows the CPU not being overworked either, steady at 55-65% workload except every 3 minutes or so when there is a consistent CPU spike that off-loads the GPU and the frame dips for a fraction of a second to less than 10 then heads back up to 23. The only indication the CPU is over-burdened is the consistent latency spikes on some of the CPU monitors available to us, indicating it's missing it's duties to send frames to the GPU, is my guess??? (Memory= 64GB of 3600 DDR4, over 4 sticks.) My extensive testing is over a fixed area, (Downtown San Francisco), circle after circle at 500ft over the same area and over the past year I have had to steadily reduce settings to maintain the minimum Reprojected frame rate at only 23 fps! (I used to get 30!) I see the exact problem at other high-density metro areas all around the world but my control area has always been S.F. USA. Now I have settings so low that any lower and the visual quality is so bad it's intolerable on the HP Reverb G2. Even on the rural areas, I used to get reprojected 45 FPS, now it's steady at 30 and rarely ever see's 45 anymore! There are still occasional stutters in cities because of only 23 FPS. No reprojection= It's a stuttering mess everywhere down low, in-town or in the country: trees/buildings just blurrrrrrrrrrr on past, LOL! I don't know what to do at this point; suggestions anyone? At this juncture, I want to just delete the program and play other fun games that don't take a 5K system just to tolerate the minimum performance, And I have seen is run on a 13900K with a 4090 on a Varjo Aero! All that money and one "STILL" has to limit settings and "STILL" not a totally smooth trouble free experience! Still get an occasional stutter and emersion breaking morphing everywhere;cliffs= all the time, buildings; sometimes there too. Even if you have an area preloaded in high resolution. Roads that look painted/not carved into hill sides, roads under the overpasses in same direction is still funny to see everywhere. Still can't figure that one out ASOBO??? Weird holes in the earth, deep cracks in the earth that are not there for real, I even saw a river recently raised "UP" from the rest of the land around it for about 2-3 miles, ouch! Jeez, still all this after 3+ years, LOL! Thanks for your hard efforts to make this product tolerable to some, take care:)

Thanks for the comment and your input .. the issue i see with msfs is that it's based on the old fsx platform. Because of this it makes the sim a single core game. So yeah, your CPU may only see that you're using 50% But one of those cores is maxed out when playing microsoft flight sim. Hoping 2024 is gonna be a step up in game optimization on asobo and ms part. If not expect the same bs.

It can be with any gpu because stutters can arise from issues not related to the gpu just like what I go over here.

⁠@@2020fsersI’m now getting terrible performance with a drop in fps. I tested in Austin Texas because it’s not heavy scenery or addons. Usually I get around 45fps, now it’s no better than 25fps. And now my Alpha yoke is way off calibration and won’t correct (may not be related). So the Bonus hack seems to have caused issues. (Why do I always try to make a good thing better? Lol!)

I highly doubt that cleaning your shader cache can cause this issue you are having . There must be something else that had changed .

I've always run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth first, if it detects a problem, then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to "fix"

I use the dlss swapper tool and takes seconds to switch it . I have updated to the latest not sure if I see any difference but everyone's system is different so you may see a bump in performance or graphics .

Thanks for the comment . You shouldn't have any problems deleting the folders directly as long as you don't have any files inside of those folders being used.. nvidia , we'll recreate the folders When it needs to recache.

I have never heard of that before. So you say when you deleted you gl and dx you tried msfs and then exited. And then deleted your directx shader cache only and then tried to start msfs and it would start?

Hi, deleting gl, gx and the other shaderX files worked fine. I did it in the past on a regular basis. Than last sunday after performing the two workarounds within the cmd window, one corrupt file was reported to be fixed. Well, great so far til I tried to start the MSFS I realized that it crashed during every single attempt to start. CTD during normal and safe mode attempts. Right now, I am installing the PC completely new. Maybe it‘s a single fault of my system, just wanna let you know. ✌️

Hi thank you 👍 BUT …I figured out the reason (!) for this f***up. I changed 3 or 4 weeks ago within the BIOS from the default RAM profile to the suggested profile of the installed RAM. After running a lot of different test programs I friend of mine suggested to switch back to the default RAM profile within the BIOS. This was the solution, the MSFS run‘s without any problems so far 😇🙏

I've been dealing with micro stutters ever since SU15. I follow these steps including a restart and it seems to fix my issues. My problem is that I have to do this every time I want to fly to prevent the stutters. Any suggestions on how or why this is happening and a possible resolution? Thanks again. I don't have the nvidia folder in the specified path: C:\Users\andy\AppData\Local (the NVIDIA folder doesn't exist! Also, I can't find the shader chache size option in the nvidia panel! RTX 3080 here, last driver installed! Am I missing something?

That is very strange 😕 that it's not there. I know the shader cache size is only in the global settings . All of the nvidia panel settings will be in the next video.

For whatever reason with an updated windows my appdata folder is missing on laptop so after entering my user files i just ran a search for the 2 cache files took a few minutes but it found them. Thanks!

I always do this process after flight Sim 2020 updates. And I run the disk cleanup feature once a week. I do not have any stutters on my system when running flight simulator and I have a Nvidia 4090 card

That is a great question I have personally made some registry changes on my system and when I do the dism and sfc It did not change any of my registry changes. But i'm not using the frame generation mod. So I can't really positively say whether it will or will not. But if you try it, please let me know. So this way I'll know and I can tell people for future.

If it's a new build then no . The data is pulled directly from Microsoft anyway which is why you need Internet but if it's older it may be worth it to you .

Is best disable cache even in Microsoft Flight Simulator and just say goodbye stutters and even if you are using google maps disable cache it really gives us a lot of problems so we don’t need to worry about deleting it in each folders

I've deleted these GL and DX shader files a couple of times per your previous video from about 10 months ago without any issues. However, this time around I'm missing the GL file at the location specified. I can navigate to the DX file and delete it but no GL. Any idea what might have happened?

Your system may not be caching gl files or possibly it got moved . Some people have told me that their files for some reason are in different location's but i can't say why that happens .

Hey thanks for the comment . I don't think there is a file like what you are asking . As far as the frame gen mod it's hit or miss most people revert back due to the issues they have. I personally will not be doing that on my system.

I have a i9 10850k overclocked all core to 5.1 ghz at 1.310 volts . Ram is 3866mhz at 14 clk speed and 1.45volts . 1000watt psu gold. Rtx3080ti undervolted to 850mv and overclocked 100mhz on core. 4tb ssd Samsung pro 980 ..

You may have clicked off of the screen. Click back on the command prompt application and hit the enter button. Like click anywhere inside the black screen area and just click one enter.

I find a DXCache folder where you show a GLCache folder in that first path. Users>AppData>Local>NVIDIA. I also have a DXCache folder in the LocalLow directory. Does that sound right? I don’t see a GLCache folder in either. Edit: I don’t play MSFS. I do play DCS and iRacing. Edit again: I do locate a GLCache folder in program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\shadercache\xxxxxxx vidiav1. Should that be deleted as well?

Either you may not have 1 or it may be in a different location for some reason. Some users have reported these files in different locations. You can do a search on your c drive for the folder name in the search.

After Windows update MSFS become unplayable (constant stutter every about 2 seconds.. macrostutter.. it hangs for few seconds). Tried the shader cleanup .. ididn't help. Game is slideshow when set graphical settings to LOW-END even. 15 aprox. FPS on my 3090Ti and fast CPU. Before update I had around 60fps most of the time on Ultra settings. ANy Ideas what might be causing this? ..... Even the Main menu and startup logos are almost slideshow. Other games seem not affected at all.

But even fresh install when starting already has stuttering when displaying logo animations… When I tried using developer mode and displaying fps monitor.. I have noticed it really periodically goes red and even fps monitor freezes for few seconds

Some suggestion on what settings I should set up for smooth performance, sometimes I put the 4 monitors in 1920*1080 and use lossless scaling and still don't get good performance, and when I use Xplane 12 or 11, is worse. hm... it's giving me a lot of errors because files are used by other processes. Just like when I try to remove them manually. It's only after I turn off the cache in the nvidia control panel and reboot that I am able to delete those files. So I'm not sure what this bat is actually able to do that I can't....

It doesn't do anything that you can't manually . It's just a faster way of doing it .

It's not about improving fps. It's about removing any corrupt shader. Cash files that could be causing stutters within the SIM. Thus smoothing out your game play. There is a chance you may gain FPS but I don't claim that.. I also go over some very useful tools that can also clean up your system files to improve latency as well As stutters inside the sim.

Try this first. Before you restart it, just click on the. Command prompt box and then hit the enter key.

Sometimes if you click off of that command prompt box, it'll look like it stalls, but if you click back on the command prompt box and then hit the enter key, it will restart again.

A lot of people I have talked to that made the switch to 11 from 10have had performance issues with msfs . A fresh build with win 11 seems better but I am not going through all of it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Hello! I really hope this solves my stutters. I have finished building my PC two days ago and I have been experiencing stutters in every airport I tried spawning in. I hope it is cuz my PC is new and it is slowly accomodating to the sim or sum.

I don't claim this to fix all stutters but it will certainly help. Did you enable xmp mode in the bios when you built your pc?

Mk studios LEBL allways stutters for me unplayable with that but weird no issues with inbuilds EGLL into 27r over London but suppose better try this and check Barcelona again

What can I do if the DISM option isn`t available on CMD prompt? I get an error 87 which basically means the online/cleanup-image/restorehealth option is unknown - any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure you have the spaces in between the online / bit and so on

If you don't have that for some reason 1st I would also suggest to go back and make sure that the command line is exactly how I have it. Or copy and paste it. for some reason if That still is not working when your system. It's really hard to say why but run the second command then the SFC command.

Good suggestions! Comments: 1. To easily permanently delete files, hold down SHIFT and then DELETE or REMOVE. 2. I have 3 other graphics apps using NVIDIA GPU, sometimes on the same day. Should the shader cache files be deleted each time a different app is used? 3. I had problems with DISM and SFCSCAN failing due to a corrupted DLL that was difficult to find and fix.

Mainly care about the shader cache that's for msfs other apps doesn't matter so much .

The most efficient way to delete all the files in the shader cache's is to reboot windows in safe mode. Doing so all the files will be deleted.

That's probably a good way as well I haven't tested that. .You might also be able to disable the shader cash in the nvidia control panel. And that may probably allow you to delete everything as well.

I suffer long pauses (4-5 secs) on long final and alas, this didn’t help 🤷🏼 The Scannow process did fix some corrupted files so that’s a plus. ❤️🇦🇺

All this is safe to do, but in most cases totally unneccessary. There are clues here that mr. 2020 fs'ers doesn't have much of an idea what he's talking about. So therefore I have a couple of questions to you 2020 fs'ers, that I already know the answers to, but I want you to prove yourself worthy. 1. Why should you also delete the GLCache folder? 2. Why should you first manually delete and then use Disk Cleanup? 3. What is a shader and what does it do and how and when is it created? While awaiting answers, know this. You only ever have to rebuild your shader cache after a major MSFS update and/or graphic card driver update.

Ok so let's do this . When I delete shader I delete them all I don't pick and choose. The gl cache is no different even tho msfs doesn't use the glcache for shaders. As to why you should delete the cache files first . I don't know I never said you did. But the only way to delete the directx cache is disk cleanup. And 3 shaders are a computer algorithm that calculates the levels of dark and light I a 3d scene to help reduce the load of your cpu. You can delete your shader cache when you want and I'll do it when I want. Trying to ask questions in which the answers will benefit nothing to the conversation and to the community only to stir up drama and conflict . If you have something positive or constructive to add please do if not leave to convo. I was all good on your comment until you got to the 2nd sentence where you start to question the intelligence of the person trying to help you and asking questions just to try and either cut someone down or try and show your superiority in computer technology. What I know is it works . I don't know all the technicalities behind it. I guess you can say the same thing for a pilot. Does that mean every pilot has to know exactly how all the internal engine parts work And how to service them for them to give you instruction on how to fly it no.. Yes you have to know An understanding of the systems that are on the aircraft But I don't need to know all the technicalities behind how to build the engine of the aircraft.. If you have kids and you teach your children to drive. Does that mean you have a complete understanding of how to rebuild that engine and all the electrical systems on that car so that you can properly teach your children how to drive? No, you don't need to know that. I'm not trying to argue what I'm trying to say is not everyone knows a 100% of everything we all have room to grow and learn . But like I said earlier trying to cut down someone Because they don't know all the intricacies of what you may know. It's not a good practice ,if you want to help someone maybe give some constructive criticism as to why you may want to do something instead of asking someone questions just to probe them to see if they know answers to questions so that you can tell them they are wrong. I do agree that if you're going to try to show someone something You should have some sort of basic understanding of what you're doing, but the way you went about it is wrong and More confrontational than being helpful.. And even in your reply back. You didn't give any constructive criticism, so like I said earlier, You didn't add to the discussion at all and or try to be helpful..

Yeah i have done that as well but I didn't notice a difference so I chose not to share that. But thank you for the info you posted. I've got to be careful about tweaks because I will get a lot of negative stuff if it doesn't do much so I try to pick things that will make a substantial difference and to help the whole community. That's why I haven't done a video on the fsr mod due to way to many people having issues.
