Bravissimi! I could listen to these three sing this forever! Leontyne! Grandissima!!! I have always loved Jerome Hines and he is simply astoundingly good here. Schippers' conducting is perfection. This cannot be bettered.

Intense and exciting. REAL OPERA. What stunningly beautiful music, and thrilling voices. I especially appreciate hearing the legendary Jerome Hines. I never knew he sang this role. WOW!

Often the bass gets trounced against big-voiced tenors and sopranos, simply because they’re singing so much higher. Especially on recordings, because the mics can’t pick up these low frequencies so much. Not Hines! Sounding huge, vibrant, ringy, easy, and beautiful.
