Searching around on the internet about this chip led me to a forum where someone replaced a similar chip on an MSI GE76 Raider 11UH. As long as the chip was blank, the bios will program the new chip. Hopefully this is the same for this MSI laptop.

Why pass the risk to the customer for sourcing the chip? I would expect a repair shop to know reliable vendors.

I wouldn't judge your buying decision off of one single failed case when there are likely hundreds of thousands of MSI laptops out in the world that are working perfectly fine. It's like if I said that "oh, this bus burned down, so I'm not gonna ride buses anymore" (a bus actually caught fire in a city near me). We can't make things that are perfect unfortunately, so there will always be broken things, that's how it is unfortunately...

Great thought. I've dealt with MSI laptops for many years and agree. Desktop MSI boards? No problem and have built many pc's using them with zero issues. But when it comes to Laptops, I always buy Razer. They're so damn solid.

Match revision # on board before selecting Donor. BIOS is Flashable but carry a secondary emergency backup copy. If these two are not incrementally matched this system will not POST.

There is yet another issue. Most like the chip will be a fake or defective. And after installing you will think that there is some other issue with the board, but in fact it is the chip. Many of those SuperIO chips from China are defective or fake (empty shell).

Many of the newer style chips need to be programmed. I’ve had a few that we’re for Lenovo laptops in that same package that needed to be programmed before installed. Some of the older style IO chip program themselves so your looking at a 50/50 chance. The real problem is having the correct hardware to program those new style chips. A real reliable programmer cost $900-1500 based on which IO chip packages you want to program.

The older chips required preprogramming. The firmware is part of the BIOS firmware. There are several videos on how to program the older style the chips. The newer chips (BGA chips) do not require to be preprogrammed. Rather, they must be completely blank and the BIOS will program the chip upon startup.

there are two types of these chips, the KB9548GF and the KB9548GF2, the one on this MSI laptop ends in GF2. it is unclear if the chips are the same or not, anyway both are super expensive, , over 50USD per chip.

if there is a bios chip nearby, you might not need to reprogram it. usually this kind of chip have an option to use external bios chip. if not, good luck to find clean region for that board.😅

it is the correct move to ask customer. Considering that NF charges a flat fee for non-repairs, it is going to be $70 out of their own pocket if replacement doesn't fix it. It is very easy for us to be critical when it isn't our business to run.

No, not for ventilation. It is for fixing the garden hose to it. The flow of water will keep it cool and prevent further overheating.

HEY, is 200€ pricetag gaming monitor worth repair, or just return ? We have local policies and i should still be able to get my money back. Loose light, and dead pixels. I am in the need of monitor, i do buddy system, kinda, always have the next on the side. If my main monitor goes boom i can just swap wires, couse it can take weeks to get another one if i dont have budget available.
