Ms Lemon! I have specifications for replacement rubber O-rings to serve in place of the two idler tires in that Toshiba KT model, of which no modern replacements seem to be available. I used a digital caliper to get the approximate dimensions. The bigger tire around the take up reel: O ring with 2mm thickness and 22mm outside diameter (or slightly smaller, around 20-21mm). The smaller tire: 1.5mm thickness, 12mm outside diameter. These idlers fall apart over time, as you know, and in the case of my Kt-R2 (same mechanism), resulted in chewed up tapes. I hope you're able to see this comment and hopefully be able to replace the idler(s) when necessary. I did need to make sure the rubber O rings were put on straight, not twisted around, so make sure of that.

I'm pretty sure all the way n Australia I've heard a similar version of Don't let me be misunderstood. After seeing this I did a search. Is that Ishtar Alabina: Lolole? I kept hearing the Spanish language in your videos, but didn't assume that's where you were based, because I think I heard some French words in one of your other videos. And your videos are mainly in English. Makes our videos more interesting. I like the Cassette player shaped tin box, btw. Thanks for your videos :)

Ishtar seems to have done a cover of (don't let me be misunderstood yes) I do speak a little Spanish yes due to living in a Spanish neighborhood for a little while in my teens. But I speak Arabic and from Iraq originally, but I live in the UK. So I can somewhat understand Ishtar in her songs 🙂 I'm glad you're enjoying my videos, thank you 🙂

For me, not too much to comment on except, back in the day. Batteries cost too much, I was more into car stereo's for my cassettes and I only listened to Vinyl at home. Well, I take that back, I did listen to cassette tape compilations once in while at home. I always wanted to use cassetes for my car. My 70 Chevelle 350 hot rodded out with 50's in the back I used to cruise the mall and drag race every weekend on the streets. Used Cassettes in my chevy everywhere I go. Portable walkmans never found much a use for them. But they are cool. I really like your old school tape recorder tin case! That's my fav thing in this video :)Besides your sweet voice! :)

Batteries did cost a lot actually! i'm thankful that now I have eneloop rechargables, they last way longer than any battery I remembered from back in the day... rechargeables back then were bleh! I couldnt resist getting that tape recorder tin case when I saw it... and thanks for the sweet words :o) i'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I'm sure you figured it out by now, but I have the same Toshiba walkman. The radio portion is actually just like a cassette you insert. Blue for FM red for AM. Too bad your didnt come with the tuner portion. I have the Blue FM, never bought the red AM, I'm sure that would have been good to double what ever value this thing may have to have both tuners.

Yes, I was going to mention that too. I purchased one of these new, in 1982 or 83. I think I paid almost $200 for it. It quit working in later years and I tossed it. I wish I hadn't. The radio worked pretty well as I remember.

Hi Maddie, You did good. That's quite a haul! I've used vinegar on a paper towel or Q tip to clean leaking battery corrosion from alkaline batteries. It bubbles and sizzles as it eats the corrosion away. Your Toshiba probably came with a separate AM/FM tuner that was shaped like a cassette. You would insert it in place of the cassette and, presto, you have a radio! To see if that's the case with your cassette player, look inside the cassette-holding space and you should see some contacts. That's where the tuner/cassette module connected to the amplifier. I'm only guessing that's what you've got, but I have seen that type of tuner before. If you want to find a replacement, you need to find a Toshiba-branded one. It was nice to see you got a working minidisc recorder/player as well. Regards, Tom

I actually have the higher end counterpart to the red one, the WM-F1. It came out in 1982. The only real difference is that the wm f1 had a built in radio and was only offered in silver. It's actually a pretty nice machine even though it's overall one of the cheaper models.

I never owned a Walkman, as in one branded by Sony, but I owned plenty of walkmans (if you get my meaning) back in the day. The best one I ever owned was a Panasonic one in the mid to late 90's that had all the bells and whistles. It was really slim, had all kinds of bass and treble controls, built-in AM/FM, and just sounded great.
@MsMadLemon
@MsMadLemon 7 жыл бұрын
Nice! Actually back in the day I didnt have any Sony ones either, I had Panasonic mostly, the first one was an RQ-P166 .. and the final one which I had was a nice slim one RQ-x15. I wonder which one yours was (though I keep forgetting model numbers normally).. it sounds like a great one!
@MattHayesVinyl

Walkmans; Walkmen? Still have a huge attraction to me, especially the Sony ones. The design language by Sony is something that really works well for me, especially the 80s and 90s style stuff. There were a ton of models out there and they often sounded amazing with the right tapes. Recently dug up my old tapes that weren't lost or destroyed in my last move and found out that they still sound pretty good. (Recorded from CDs). 5:23 that Walkman we have in the home as well. The yellow sports walkman is the stuff of legends!
@MsMadLemon
@MsMadLemon 7 жыл бұрын
Tapes actually sound way better than people tend to give them credit for :o) Sony were great when it came to walkmans/walkmen, the only thing that irritates me about Sony is their proprietary stuff, (batteries, headphone/remote jacks) but other than that there are some seriously slick models they had in the 80s and 90s.

Great to see these walkman machines, I had one myself, I think everybody did. Some rarities there for sure. The music you played always reminds me of Kill Bill Vol 1, as its a great song on that soundtrack. I wouldnt worry about youtube strikes, if you play copyright music, they just mute it out of your production, as they did with my Ghostbusters/Blue Busters theme, and if you talk over it, its fine. As for Tapes vs CDs, as usual, its more about the Amp and the pickups rather than the music itself - as the perfect sound will always sound bad on portable speakers. Most people say they prefer the music to sound sharper and crisp like CD, but tapes can be warmer and sound more dated to the period, while CDs are rather cold and timeless, some records are quite warm and also crisp and timeless, but also have annoying crackles. I think the old 128kbs MP3s are about as good as tapes, and 320kbps are almost as good as DAT tapes from studios, but still not quite. To get that kind of quality from music, you have to go lossless FLAC or something. To be honest, many of my CDs from back in the day developed warping issues and delamination, so tapes have lasted longer.

I got one of those Red Walkman's for Christmas when I was a kid, it was my first actual Audio Device I ever had, and I loved it, unfortunately I was an idiot as a child and chose to cover the whole thing in Micheal Jackson Stickers, which ruined the look, I think I ended up just donating it to a thrift store sometime in the early two thousands, along with a Pink Sound Design Mini-Boombox I won in a Contest at School, man I really miss those devices!

Hey, thank you! Im actually Arab by origin, but for a brief period we lived in a neighbourhood here in the UK where there were a lot of Spanish speaking people. I've always loved the Mediterranean region and am drawn towards it. I'm not from Lebanon, it is a beautiful place and i'd love to visit there. Saisho was crappy brand, they were basically the own brand for Currys (before Currys got bought about by Dixons and eventually replaced Dixons as their high street brand)

Thanks for the info, I knew absolutely nothing about this mystery brand. Except that it's crap by the sound that came out of those speakers.

what did you listen in the ninetieth except Michael Jackson and Madonna to? Still Paulo Adbul can??? You had opportunities to buy any equipment of sound recording, and to listen was not what! You also didn't suspect that except Bruce Springsteen there are performers Bruno Gerussi's Medallion The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir Anna Gutmanis, etc!

MsMadLemon I just purchased a technics sl-bd 1 for my pops, but he has a surround sound system. I had to also order small preamp, what do think? Also how much Spanish do you know? Thanks for hours of entertainment and information.🙌🙌🙌

desafortunadamente mi español no es bien porque no he hablado hace mucho tiempo, y creo que olvidé mucho jajaj, tengo que practicar más. :o) The Technics turntable seems good though I don´t know it nor ever used it. I like Technics though. And the entertainment is my pleasure, i'm glad you enjoy!

Saisho stuff was purely terrible, particularly their audio products, personal stereos, boomboxes, midi systems etc. Own 'brand' name of the 80s and 90s for Dixons Retail PLC.
