Nice bike review... These bikes seems to be quite bullet proof indeed! I actually placed an order for the DS 3 "equipped", which comes with rack and mudguards (seems this option is not available outside EU), and have hesitated quite a long time between the DS and FX series... Advantage of the 3 series (DS or FX) is to have the Deore 1x10 cassette but from your review it seems I wouldn't have minded even if I went one tier lower... Can't wait now to receive it! Cheers

I have a Trek FX 7.1, bought in like new condition a couple of years ago. I'm also in the pachyderm class of riders at 310lbs and 6'5". Have not yet had any issues with spoke tension on my stock rear wheel but I really like that upgrade you did. This bike totally reignited my passion for cycling and I love any chance I get to ride it.

My 7.1 Bontregger rims needed replaced. No complaints otherwise. I’d say this bike is best shaped for long legged and short torso riders. Top tube is a little short for me.

Just recently ordered a fx3 1×10 to go along with my Domaine, when the wife wants to ride...she has a giant hybrid 3×7.

Go Trek FX! Nice set up with everything you need. Didn't know about the 7.2. I guess they renamed it to FX 1,2,3 etc.

any idea regarding that fork side mounting bolt if it's possible to put a front rack?

Yes you can. I have the AC Low Rider rack by Arkel

Hello. I have this exact bike & purchased new & has served me well. I have wanted to put larger tires than the 35’s it comes with but I have to have fenders. I have the Planet Bike brand fenders which work well but your SKS fenders work with 38’s & there’s no rubbing? Thanks
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
No rubbing. Works well for me.
@myAutoGen Жыл бұрын
@@MSMAdventures do you remember which SKS fenders they are? Because SKS have a whole bunch of different ones, and yours look like exactly what I want

will 40mm tires fit on this bike?
@starmanian2 жыл бұрын
are you only riding it as a comuter bike? Im having a hard time picking between fx2 and dual sport 2, basicly dual sport is wider tire and a front suspension. Have you been riding the fx2 on non paved roads? How does it feel?
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
I have been mostly on road with a little bit of off road. I would go with the wider tire if you are going to be on a lot of non paved roads. The thin tire can be squirmy on soft stuff. I now have a Surly ECR for off road bikepacking stuff and the wide tires are great off road.

@@MSMAdventures do you consider trek fx good bike for long distance rides?
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
It certainly could be. Great all arounder

Would love to get ur insight. Great informative video by the way. I just bought a 2020 fx1 disc, now im 6’4 350 athletic build. Im not going to be commuting long trips, more so using it to work out use it maybe 3 times a week maybe 5 miles on it to start losing weight. Would like to get ur opinion on do u think the bike will withstand my size? And any tips on what i should do to have it ready to load me around. Thank you.
@MSMAdventures4 жыл бұрын
I think the bike will hold up well. The problem I had was with the rear wheel. I went to a velocity dyad rim and a 38mm tire. After that I had no more issues.
@fernandoduran56764 жыл бұрын
MSM Adventures and the velocity dyad still came in 700x35c size?
@MSMAdventures4 жыл бұрын
You could use a 35 still yes. The folks at velocity are very helpful.

"..This bike has a maximum total weight limit (combined weight of bicycle, rider, and cargo) of 300 pounds (136 kg).." [Trek's website]. Carefully follow MSM's plain facts and remember the Pollyanna principle : 650$ MSRP (the current price of the disc version of FX 2) bought MSM a unicycle. The fact that MSM did not change the cassette, BB or crankset over the past years implies a rider that does not stress the bicycle. If you are athletic and intend to stress the bike, avoid Trek FX 1/2 altogether otherwise you will face the need to change a low quality BB (probably VP-73, 68mm) and low quality crank-set (non-Shimano) that wobbles out of the box.

Am planning to buy a bike but confused which one is better Giant escape 3 or Trek fx1 Giant escape 3 has 38" tries Trek has 35" tires. And Trek has Shimano Altus but Giant has Shimano tourney only so am confused poz suggest me 🙏
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I have not done much research on the Giants but I'm sure they are comparable. I have had a lot of Trex bikes and have had a really good experience with all of them so I'm probably a bit biased :)

@@MSMAdventures thanks for the reply! I just got a FX2 disc and was worried going over root-damaged paths at speed would damage my wheels, i hear a clack-clack-clack as i go over them :(
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Check the spoke tension often and if need be get a stronger wheel built for the rear. Well worth it imo.
@Big_Boss922 жыл бұрын
@@MSMAdventures thanks for the recommendation. So I'm not gunna damage my new bike by riding over small bumps at speed?
@MSMAdventures2 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of factors but probably the most probable damage will be a pinch flat if the tire pressure is to low or broken spokes. Neither are too costly to repair so personally I would just ride and enjoy it. The most important thing is to ride it :)
@williamsmith80413 жыл бұрын
Why did you choose the fx2 over an fx1???
@MSMAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Honestly at the time I just bought the best component package I could. I have a a friend who has the fx1 and loves it as well.
@willmuckel91313 жыл бұрын
@@MSMAdventures so would you have bought the fx3 if you had the budget at the time?
@MSMAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I'm not sure what more you get for your money on the fx3.
