It's true dedication that Gene Kelly performed that famous rain dance when he was sick with a temperature. More proof that he was one of the best dancers of his generation.

I think the dance scenes from Last Night In Soho are incredibly underrated. The editing and the practical effects letting characters weave in and out of their respective time periods is one of the most striking visuals I've ever seen. If there's a top 100 list made, it at least has to crack that.

Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! Goldwyn Follies (1938) also had good dance scenes. One of them was Vera Zorina in Balanchine's (Undine) Water Nymph Ballet. The actress was born in Germany, so in 1940, Fantasia did a parody of the first scene by using Hyacinth.

Not going to argue, you put together a great list. (That LaLa Land opener really does make you homesick for the LA in your heart and besides Rita's purple dress, don't forget George Chakiris danced as Riff (London stage) and Bernardo (Best Supporting Actor, movie). One teensy comment tho', it would have been nice to show Fred Astaire dancing with -- mop, hat rack, golf club, rain coat, etc. -- in response to the crack, "Who do you think you are, Fred Astaire?!" After years of being a gentleman, didn't Fred say he had the most fun dancing with Rita Hayworth? A great dancer in her own right.

I have been watching movies for 71 years (when I saw the rerelease of WAR OF THE WORLDS with Gene Barry, I realized I must have been taken to the movies in 1953 to see it. Several brilliant ensemble sequences are missing, including the PRELUDE in WEST SIDE STORY, The COTILLIAN SCENE FROM MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, the amazing scene with Van Johnson and the citizens of BRIGADOON, The CIRCUS PERFORMANCE scene FROM BILLY ROSE'S JUMBO (the last film on which the legendary Busby Berkely worked), the GARDEN SCENE with Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth from YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER, the scene in which Fred Astaire dances with Jane Powell in ROYAL WEDDING, THE "love look away" ballet from FLOWER DRUM SONG, the "A Couple of Swells" scene with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland from EASTER PARADE, The "trolly scene" with Judy Garland from MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS and, more recently, the incredibly choreographed STEP UP: REVOLUTION, without which LA LA LAND would NEVER have been made. Let's face it, Michael Jackson videos and live performances brought back the movie musical. I seriously doubt Chicago would have been made without the influence of Michael Jackson. I even enjoyed the Patrick Swayze/Lisa Niemi-produced ONE LAST DANCE, the Chinese import HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS and the magical SUCKER PUNCH. Just like the Sergio Leone DOLLARS TRILOGY, traditional Hollywood was never the same after Leone showed HE knew more about the history of the 19th century West and our War Between The States than ANY Hollywood filmmaker, including John Ford.

There's nothing good nor special of all the songs from The Greatest Showman, as its songs and the movie overall, are absolute trash. A pure absolute woke trash, nothing more. Furthermore, The Greatest Showman is a disgrace and a travesty to all musical genre (alongside 2019's Cats), and has no business of being a part of the list of best musical films, ever.

@@ajpat9620I didn't like the greatest showman either, but it didn't ruin the reputation of the musical genre, it was in fact quite successful and people seemed to generally enjoy it, unlike Cats. Also I don't know how it was woke? If anything it was the opposite.
