Another breakup song I think deserves an honorable mention is Call Me When You’re Sober by Evanescence. It is an emotionally raw rock ballad that express the frustration and pain of being in a relationship with someone who is unwilling to seek help for their alcoholism, even when it is causing damage to a relationship. Amy reportedly wrote it about her ex Shaun Morgan, lead singer of Seether (who Amy famously sang Broken with, which is another song that deserves an honorable mention). I think it is amazing that their relationship gave us Broken and Call Me When You’re Sober, two breakup songs for the ages. Good list either way!

Great choices here! But, I would also make the argument that Sara Bareilles has a few songs in her catalog that would be very good break up songs just to say, you’re not going to put up with your ex’s mind games anymore. The message of “king of anything“ is something like that. Same thing for “ fairytale.“ even “gravity“ could be interpreted that way. I’d say the best one though , For this kind of message, is “love song.“ Because the narrator knows that her relationship is toxic and very near the end, so why do the one thing her would be ex thanks can salvage the relationship, when she has the power to just end it? Also, what she didn’t get out in the song is that if her ex thinks a love song can salvage their relationship, why doesn’t he write it? Any one of the songs I just listed could have been considered for that list,“Love, song“ is the definite best choice. It would definitely be something to consider if there’s ever a top 20 follow up list on this topic.
