No joke Austin Butler was so accurate at Elvis a couple times in the film I thought his portrayal was too good, and that they must have slipped deep fake cuts of Elvis over Butler. The guy knocked it completely out of the park. The voice, the facial ticks, the movements and dance moves. As a life long Elvis fan I was absolutely blown away. He genuinely deserves all the praise he's been getting for this film.
@scr3am2732 жыл бұрын
Not so sure about deep fakes but they did make a realistic mask to match the last performance of Elvis.
@dilligafTV12 жыл бұрын
They did deepfakes in the 60's movie footage and when they dunked his head in water. Put Elvis' actual eyes on hi in the water, and put Butlers Face on Elvis in the 60's outdoor pool movie bit.
@dilligafTV12 жыл бұрын
And he also only sung the 50’s stuff which he did well enough. The rest he only sung a few other times. On the floor on if I can dream and at the piano on here comes Santa clause as well as in the suite with a few background cuts. The rest was Elvis. He did a fine job though and I saw it 5x although I thought the personal portrayal of Elvis was too depressed and angry. Elvis was far more fun loving. Not to mention they failed to show his generosity.
@dantaylor1724 Жыл бұрын
They did a deep fake at the party scene where Elvis sings A Little Less Conversation in the 60's film "Live A Little, Love A Little" it's Austins face superimposed over Elvis's, also, "old Mcdonald" scene on the back of the truck from "Double Trouble" Kurt Russell and Austin Butler are the best of the lot. IMO.

Well remember the current movie is highly stylized and trying to blend a fictional story with a real one. The director wanted Elvis to be a superhero comic book character..which is emotionally fun but not realistic. And he was telling the story of Faust, where the devil as Tom Parker bought his soul. Elvis was as much his own worst enemy as his handlers. His long haired record producers were as destructive to him as his posse and Parker. There's film of them getting high with him on the way to concerts. Lots of pop singers ended up just like Elvis...divorced, worked hard and dead from alcohol and drug abuse...some woke up before it was too late to realize they were broke millionaires as their managers, appetites and friends had spent all their money. VH1 is full of "But sucess proved too much for Johnny Bravo" documentaries. Elvis was big. He likely couldn't have been any bigger in those 20 years. He sold 10s of millions of albums and many many more millions of 45s. He was in a score of movies...always popular. His concerts sold out even when he was bloated and bizarre looking by his 40th birthday. He put a great deal of energy into his performances, which was hard on his heart along with his lifestyle. Pills or no pills he might have died that day. The autopsy showed his colon was enlarged and filled with gray plaque. He had horrible constipation from his fried junk diet. The sudden swelling in his face after 75 was not just overweight. He burst a blood vessel trying to void his bowel that day. He truly was the whole package of a uniquely talented entertainer. 1968 seemed to be his greatest year of stunning and more mature performances.

I'm 63, so I grew up watching Elvis's movies and performances on TV. Before seeing the new Elvis Movie I would've said Kurt Russell was my favorite, but Austin Butler's performance absolutely blew him out of the water. The only thing I found missing in Austin's portrayal was he/Baz failed to address Elvis's sense of humor. He was a very funny man, loved to joke around laugh and make silly faces, and Kurt did a great job capturing that part of him. It will be very difficult for anyone to beat Austin's look and performances, so I think the Elvis Movie will be the quintessential Elvis biopic for decades to come, possibly forever. And if Austin doesn't win the Oscar for this performance I'm personally petitioning the Academy!

In interviews, both Baz and Tom Hanks have said cast members who weren't required to be on set would show up on their day off to watch the filming of Austin's performances because they were so mesmerized. Austin's performances were so electric and spot on, they felt just like they were seeing a real Elvis concert. Baz said one of his longtime staffers (30 years I think he said) pulled him aside and said, "Boss, what's going on? I ain't never seen anything like this. I'd PAY to be here." Baz also said the reactions you see coming from the audience extras were not scripted or acted. It's their genuine response to Austin performing because they filmed the songs from beginning to end, just like a real performance, no cut/action to do another take. THAT's great acting!

Elvis quit performing as much because of his MAJOR HEALTH problems. He suffered a Traumatic brain injury (a series of 4 in his lifetime actually). The last one being in 1967. He tripped over a TV cord and hit his head on a porcelain tub and knocked him out for over 6hrs!!! He even seen his Mom talking to him!!! DR Nick was called in immediately and this was before MRI'S!! The most underappreciated factor in the decline of Elvis Presley's health and early death was repeated head trauma. It is now recognized that multiple head trauma can cause an autoimmune inflammatory disorder that can attack any organ in the body. Contemporary terms for the pathologic developments that may occur following head trauma are post-concussion syndrome, TBI, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Some of the post-trauma symptoms include memory loss, obsessive-compulsive traits, and irrational or illogical behavior.Elvis demonstrated many of these obsessive-compulsive and erratic behaviors at different times.A retrospective analysis of Elvis' head trauma clearly shows that Presley developed or accelerated his autoimmune inflammatory disease after his most serious head trauma in 1967. His previous bouts of head trauma probably contributed to his deterioration, as multiple head traumas are cumulative in effect. Autoimmunity following TBI has historically been believed to occur as a result of hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction. A new belief is that head trauma causes brain tissue to be jarred loose, and leak into the general circulation through the blood-brain barrier.²² Brain tissue is not supposed to enter the blood circulation because it is toxic or antigenic to the rest of the body. If this truly occurs, and this author believes it does, it acts like an infectious agent or vaccine in that it causes antibodies to form. These antibodies then become "auto" and start attacking normal tissue. It's even possible these abnormal antibodies attack and further damage the brain.Elvis clearly had a disease process that had affected multiple organs-stomach, liver, spine, and eyes-but at the time, his physicians had no idea that he might have had a progressive autoimmune inflammatory disorder. The concept of autoimmunity was just starting to be understood. Much to his credit, Dr. Nick gave Elvis the diagnosis of post-concussion syndrome, and believed his headaches were a result of his head injury of 1967. Dr. Nick related to me that, "Elvis was never the same after he hit his head in 1967."Dr. Nick prescribed only two of the many drugs found in his serum. What no one knew at the time was that some drugs, particularly opioids, may interfere with cardiac conduction and cause a fatal, sudden heart stoppage from cardiac arrhythmia. The most notorious example is torsades de pointes, a prolongation of the QT interval, which may occur when opioids and other drugs are taken together. This toxic reaction will most likely occur in a patient with existing heart disease. I now believe that Elvis' death was partially due to codeine, because he had obtained codeine from a dentist the day before his death. He took several tablets and had a serum level 10 times the therapeutic range.Just a few weeks before his death, Elvis became ill while touring in Louisiana. He developed nausea and symptoms of intestinal flu. He also had pulled a hamstring and strained his back. He entered Baptist Memorial Hospital for the fourth and last time on April 1, 1977. Anemia was found along with his chronic hepatitis, lung disease, glaucoma, hypertension, and megacolon.

Also he changed from the red shirt into a blue flowered shirt and worked with the drummer... Tat tat tat... Austin completely nailed it I can see why the presleys cried. I see Austin in interviews and he is not elvis. But he is a very charming cute man. That makes his acting even more superb. BAZ is a great director.

Kurt Russell was good, but I just saw the Austin Butler “ELVIS.” By far, the best! From the side, he looks just like him. I wondered if he sang in it. I figured he did, since performances were sometimes different than what really happened. He did a great job of moving, and moving the audience!

Butler sang all of Elvis’ 50’s and early 60’s songs. “That’s all right Mama” and “Trouble” in particular were really great renditions. Some people refused to believe it was Austin singing though. To the point that Baz Lurhman posted a video of Austin singing “that’s alright Mama” during his screen test. It was before he went through two years of vocal and movement training, yet it was still spot on. I don’t know if this sub allows you to post links, but I can look up the songs comparison links for you. If you would like me to.

A terrible movie imo, the book is better than the movie, Priscilla said things were exaggerated for the effect on screen, and Midkiff's portrayal of Elvis is horrible, he just comes across as mean most of the time! Austin does a far greater job of capturing the essence of Elvis.

For Austin to spend 2 plus years preparing for the Elvis roll in itself was phenomenal. The end results spectacular. The not funny faces or not smiling enough in the movie was not Austin's fault but the writers and director's decisions what to be put in the movie. What other actor ever took the time, energy and toldly embodied Elvis the way Austin did? This young actor Austin Butler I think made history in his performance. Even Elvis himself would have given Austin a very very long standing ovation. The Elvis movie should definitely win an Oscar. It's a stand alone movie. All others movies that came out at the same time are just movies in a series. TG Maverick continuation of fighter pilots and dog fights. Jurassic World Domination is continuation of dinosaurs going rampant and chasing people. And so are the rest of the other new movies. Elvis may have been done before but not like this one. In all the interviews of Austin Butler today he still has Elvis inside of him. I hear it in his voice and see it in his mannerisms and I think he will always have it with him. If Austin does not get an Oscar, I say shame on the academy. I'll be watching.

I have seen them all, even a couple that were not shown here. Kurt Russell was the best .....untill this young man today emerged..... Austin Butler. Hec man it was almost uncanny watching Austin, every single gesture every move was Elvis to a tee. Even his body type was perfect. Some Elvis's have been a little too short in height. Others a little too short in the length of the legs and some even a little narrow in the shoulders. Honestly there were times I couldn't tell the difference. Was it Elvis or was it Austin? Thats how incredibly good this new kid on the block was. Elvis would have been so very pleased I think, and full marks to Austin Butler, what a total commitment to a role. I believe too, Austin did much of his own singing. Thats amazing. I hope he gets a well-deserved Oscar for what is truly a brilliant performance.

I watched the 2022 Elvis. And then started watching all kinds of old videos of the real Elvis. What makes me sad, and confused, is Elvis' humor was NOT in this 2022 movie. And it seems the real Elvis had quite a noticeable, adorable sense of humor that he did not try to hide. After seeing so many clips of the real Elvis... I became increasingly disappointed with the movie's portrayal of him. It didn't show his silliness and how, at least when performing, he seemed so happy. The movie made it look like his entertainment lifestyle was hell. Maybe it was, but I think the real Elvis had an admirable way of enjoying his life, unlike the movie seemed to show...
@junrayned.espada50592 жыл бұрын
They didn't show it because it is elvis's story from the perspective of colonel tom parker. Yes he is joyful and funny on stage and on media but what about his personal life? What about his struggles because of his damn manager who abused him financially? That's the point of the 2022 elvis movie. Austin butler did put a mic on his mouth in rhe movie tho like elvis did
@rafaelaborges37072 жыл бұрын
Precisely. That's what I've been talking about since I first saw the movie. There is no Elvis without that delightful, endearing sense of humor, which was one of the keys to his charisma. And there is no Elvis without the contagious happiness on stage. Luhrman's Elvis is angry practically from start to the end. But I kind of liked the movie, and I can see Elvis in Butler, because the actor did a great job. I also understand the film as a beautiful tribute to the legacy of the King of rock and roll. Butler incarnated Elvis. The problem was the script, which failed to capture the personality of the King. The biopic shows a superhero Elvis against the bad guy Parker. After all, it's Hollywood. The human Elvis, however, is not there. That imperfect and captivating human being that I admire so much.

Most biopics I've noticed from over the years don't show the real personality. Don't read too much into it. It's all about the topic of the person, not the personality. Hector Lavoe, Selena, The Temptations, Johnny Cash, Marilyn Monroe, especially, you would never know that they were smart, funny, sensitive, caring, and giving people from their biopics. You have to read and watch biopics for that.

Austin is AMAZING, and Kurt Russell's portrayal is so memorable as well. I would add Shawn Klush in HBO's series 'Vinyl' to the tops of this list. Shawn is the arguably the best Elvis Tribute Artist in the world, and his acting skills keeps getting stronger. His portrayal in 'Vinyl' is memorable because his 'stage' presentation is as a tired Elvis; genuine, not perfect. And the 'after-show' Elvis scene feels absolutely authentic to Elvis.

While Kurt Russell is the most naturally similar to Elvis (And even acted in a movie with him as a kid), Butler's performance as Elvis is hands down the best there ever was. Would it be as good if there wasn't a filming delay thanks to Covid? Maybe, but Butler himself said that extra time helped him to really nail the essence of The King. As someone here said, the only thing missing is Elvis' humor, but Austin's moves, mannerisms, looks and even his aura felt...Elvisy! None of that bad impersonation, he was just so genuine.
