The pineapple in Ted's room and how it got there, was explained. Just not till the final season. It was from The Captains house. He puts out a pineapple outside his front door around Halloween. Ted snatches it while he's blackout drunk. Super Fan here 👍.

The Pineapple Incident (S01E10) episode wasn't a Halloween episode, though, the Halloween episode for season 1 was S01E06 (the one where Ted is waiting for the slutty pumpkin). The pineapple was explained in a season 9 episode, but the scene with the explanation was cut. You can find it in the bonus material on the DVD box. The captain basically claims that it is an old seaman's tradition to put out a pineapple as a sign of hospitality, so he has one in front of his mansion and one in front of his townhouse in the city. After Ted got totally drunk he stole the pineapple from the townhouse, without knowing who the owner was.

Yeah actually it's in a deleted SEASON 8 clip so not the last season and he left it outside his New York apartment building which just so happened to be the same one as Ted and Marshall's

There is a delete scene in which Ted remembers why he had the pineapple, He was at the captain's house after finding Lilys pregnancy test and there was a pineapple on the door and it turns out it's an old captain's tradition, So ted took it from the captain's town house when he was drunk but didn't remember until the captain told him about it.

For those who don't know the pineapple was answered in a cut scene from the last season when the gang goes to the captains when they find out Lilly is pregnant. the pineapple was a connection to the captain seasons prior to his involvement. an old sailors tale is that a pineapple outside your home brings luck and protection while the sailors are at sea. he has a pineapple outside his home in Manhattan and his summer home upstate.
