You have to see Monster. It would be criminal to not see it, as it's one of the best performances from any actor of all time. I've seen maybe a thousand movies now. A very small percentage actually made me shed a tear...like probably 10 out of those 1000 movies. Monster was one of the only ones that made me really start balling like a baby. I knew it was just a movie...but it really got to me on a different level... completely empathizing with a serial killer...its insane when you think about it that way.

Well, of course her father's sister would say he was a good guy. Abusers tend to have people who say that. It's part of why they can get away with abuse for so long. If they make everyone else think that they're good people, then their victims are less likely to be taken seriously.

Right. Good guys don't get so drunk that they fire 3 shots at their daughter and wife, through a door. Even if he was otherwise a "good guy" if you fire on someone, they have the right to protect themselves and you can't fault her Mom for protecting her.

People don't always know about their own relatives so that could be father's sister's view of him. Maybe he acted different when around her. Josef Fritzl had kidnapped his own daughter Elisabeth when she was 18 and she was not found until she was 42, even though she was in a hidden addition to basement in their house. Elisabeth had run away when she was 15 and people did not believe he was abusive. Another case Andrew Kehoe may have killed his step mother by setting her on fire when a teenager and he later set fire to his house and barn killed his wife and animals and also had set explosives and flammables in Bath School. They went off killing many he also planted explosives in his car and blow himself up near a group of people outside the school. He was a member of the School board so they thought he was a person they could trust.

I am from South Africa...Charlize yes HAD a tragic childhood she made it work and became a beautiful, humble, talented & successful person...the most beautiful mountains are formed by intense heat and pressure. I just sometimes wish that people will stop focusing on "tragic" events because it gets more views...

I also had my teeth rot when I was put on antibiotics as a baby (v premature and multiple health challenges in my first 2 years.) I was so thankful when, at 7 these teeth began to fall out! My parents had seen how traumatic it was for me as a child, to be bullied and begin to never open my mouth, because of my ugly teeth. They consulted many dentists, but were always told that my milk teeth needed to stay in-place, rather than be extracted, because they would guide my permanent teeth into the right position. I waited, my teeth fell out from the age of 7 onwards and yet, so many of my adult teeth came in crooked, or in the completely wrong position, anyway! And so began more years of orthodontic treatment and also many more years of bullying, because of the braces.

Never mind the tragic life of Charlize Theron. What about her adopted son that the woman is trying to make in to a girl. She's screwy in the head.

I’ve also read that she used to smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day. I suppose extreme stress and childhood trauma will do that to you. You can tell from some of the creases and fine lines on her face that she either was or still is a smoker. Don’t get me wrong. She remains stunning despite. I just hope she’s making healthier choices now. That’s 40-60 cigarettes every day. Such a habit is not wise for her nor her children. Regardless, she’s a smart person, and I’m sure that if she lights up now and again, she does so away from the little ones!

I don't understand Elise, how could you pronounce her name wrong in your narration after you put in the clip where she tells everyone how to pronounce her name correctly?

Most of us who don't have English names tend to make our peace with it being warped by English speakers at some point, it's a fight against the dominant Western culture. Was nice to hear her say her last name "properly" though (Afrikaans doesn't have a "th" sound, which is our biggest give-away when speaking English and why I always thought she was a wee bit of a sell-out, much more respect for it now).

I've always loved this woman. She is so beautiful and her acting ability is so extreme and intense. By the way, I love the way she says her name too, it is so sexy. I feel so bad that she had such an awkward life, but unfortunately we dont get to choose how some people are. Dont worry Charlize, your fans love you very much. (Devils Advocate and Monster. Great great movies!)
