I love Never Been Kissed. Unfortunately, _Never Been Kissed_ came out the same time the _Matrix_ did, which is why it did not do well. Everyone in my family (and friends) went to see the Matrix, and I was the only one (of the people I know) who went in saw Never Been Kissed. The theater was particularly empty. I think there was about 10 of us in the room. Honestly, the Matrix overshadowed all movies that came out around that time. _I later saw the Matrix, and I enjoyed and like it, but I'm happy I saw Never Been Kissed that day.

I suspected PLEASANTVILLE would be on this list, but I didn't want it to be. I don't think that film deserves to be lauded. In my view, it's nothing but a hatchet job on the 1950s; it's as if the filmmakers did "research" by watching nothing but old sitcoms and then married those to what few "truths" they "knew" about the decade. CRY-BABY is a little better in that it takes a more honest and relevant - if equally clichéd - look at the '50s, but the characters are pretty repugnant at first and they take some time to endear themselves. My advice: watch CRY-BABY as many times as it takes you to like it (because you WILL like it eventually) and never watch PLEASANTVILLE.

It's the most unrealistic portrayal of working at an independently owned store. Also, it's one of these films that show that drug addiction, and suicidal behavior can be cured in a day; public underage drinking is nothing, shoplifters dont get prosecuted; you can have an impromptu "save the rec center" style concert/festival/block party and not get shut down immediately. Things are different in Delaware I guess.

My mom and I used to watch "Drop Dead Gorgeous" all the time...it's so good! Denise Richards is fantastic in it, especially when she dances with a life-size crucified Jesus on wheels to "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" for her pageant talent...horrifying and fantastic lol

Most of these were rightfully forgotten for a reason. The only ones that do not belong on this list are Newsies, Pleasantville, and maybe Never Been Kissed. I loved Newsies from the day it came out.

Great list. The Faculty is one of my favorite movies of all time. Watching it is like eating comfort food. I remember seeing it in the theater and knowing this was going to be a movie I kept coming back to. Idle Hands is another favorite, so it was nice seeing it get a mention. Empire Records, well that's simply a classic. Drop Dead Gorgeous is the best Christopher Guest movie he didn't make. Cry Baby is John Waters showing his brilliance yet again. I love Hackers! It's awesome. The crazy part is that the first time I saw it was in one of my classes in high school. The teacher had some sort crap to sort out so she checked out one of the t.v. and VCR racks and let us watch it. Mind you, this was in the mid '90's. I also saw Schindler's List in my high school history class. But that's another story all together!

Why is Never Been Kissed considered a teen comedy? Josie is in her late 20/ early 30s. Her brother is older. And Mr. Colsun is in his 30s too. Over 80% of the cast is an adult character. There are only like 8 teen characters in the movie and most of them third-tier characters. Is it considered a teen comedy because of Josie’s high school flashbacks? Or just because most of the story takes place in a high school? I’m genuinely curious about this.

So, someone was reading my diary and totally made this video. I am now understanding what an off beat kid I was because I searched out movies the like Slums of Beverly Hills and Welcome to the Dollhouse. Back in those days, we had Blockbuster and the internet came through on the telephone-- you know, a billion years ago, the stone age and we couldn't easily find the off beat movies. Anyway, thanks for this video. It really spoke to me.
