Some years ago, I worked for a company that had a government contract. One of the Energy Dept project managers came to visit and see how we were doing. We went to the company cafeteria for lunch and I offered to pay for a hamburger and fries. The DOE manager had to remind me that he couldn't accept that "gift," but had to pay for his own lunch. I was embarrassed that I had forgotten this! Too bad he wasn't a Supreme Court Justice. I could have taken him to a really nice place!

Trump's latest comments lead me to think he will attend at least the first debate (taunting CNN; see recent comments). Obviously no one can (or wants to) get into Trump's foul cesspool of a brain, but I hope I am right. Biden will mop the floor with Trump under rules that prevent Trump from interrupting, overtalking and generally breaking all the debate rules. Without his usual bluster, chaos and attempts at intimidation, Trump is nothing because he really is an ignorant person who doesn't know anything of substance.

Carville and others on the Dem side want very much for Trump to debate because it will highlight the significant intellectual and cognitive differences between Trump and Biden for the electorate to plainly see. Those differences to any objective observer will clearly benefit Biden. The Biden campaign and its allies, including Carville, know it is easy to mess with Trump's head, and they are doing so. It's likely in my view that Trump will appear for the first debate. He knows that if he fails to appear he will be roundly criticized and ridiculed.
