Good idea to braid first and then twist. Keeps the roots looking neater longer. Your hair is much longer than mine, but I'll definitely try it the next time I twist my hair. Thanks for the idea!
@Stemmer948 жыл бұрын
I love the braiding first idea, it hold the twists better than just twisting the hair from root to end. And it really stretches the hair. Also, I see a lot of women complaining about how long the regimen take; they forget you don't like to use heat, so it took a while for your hair to dry and its long so things will take longer. My bf seems to think I take forever on wash day. Then he knows he has to wait a whole day before I let him even touch my hair. He loves it when I get protective styles.

After you reach medium length you should shampoo in twists to keep your hair detangled. I will never shampoo my hair loose. That's just asking for it.

All my life I have been struggling to retain length....when I get frustrated I would add relaxer and then big chop and the cycle starts over......Now I have been natural for 1 year and I am determined to keep it that way. Your vid gives me some hope. I know that I must develop a hair regimen and identify products that work for me. Thanks for sharing your routine.

Do you moisturize your hair every day when it's in a protective style? I ask because during the semester, I really get too busy to moisturize and seal every single day. I wash my hair once a week and moisturize and seal just on that day.

That's a GREAT idea, and I recently bought a spray bottle. Is it beneficial to mix water, conditioner, and a few different light oils as well? I'm not sure about adding oils to that mixture.
@dmj969910 жыл бұрын
I do the Loc method and my hair is moisturized for 3 days in a low manipulation style. I have 4b hair. But if I put my hair in braids then I spray it with an mixture of leaving conditioner, oil and water everyday because it is lighter. I don't have a lot of time to spend for my hair. College is no joke.
@mspersonal20109 жыл бұрын
dmj You're so right about school! I've slacked on my hair care (not as many DCs and my moisturizing is sporadic at best) since I've been in college and my hair is growing but not as well as it could/ should be. After finals (5 more days to go) I'm getting back on my hair care routine and the LOC method (I do LCO) was one of the things my hair loved.

I'm so happy I just stumbled onto this video. I have fine 4a-4b hair and I've been wanting to retain more length. I've been using a wig and scalp massage oil on my cornrowed hair- it helped my retain a lot but I HATE wigs and with the heat I couldn't stand it anymore. This looks like a good way to retain while doing my scalp massages. I hope this works for me as well or better than the dreaded wig protective style did. Thanks for posting.

Subscribed off the back of this video!!! I have read EVERY COMMENT from today's so I don't ask you any questions already answered in the video or comments, unless left unanswered. Curious about the 5 week washday process. If the PS lasts for 9 wks, and you wash @ wk 5, how exactly do you wash your hair? am assuming you have NOT taken your hair down, de-tangled, re-braided/loose twisted again . Otherwise, this would not warrant being a 9 wk PS. Am I missing something? Will check through your channel to see if you cover this when I'm not so busy
@mstanish110 жыл бұрын
Huh? I keep the loose twists in for 4-6 weeks. I do not wash my hair with twists in because it would create excessive tangling. I don't leave twists in for 9 weeks. Also, I don't know what PS stands for.

I can share with you what I do: I part my twists into 4 sections. starting at one section I mist with water, take a moisture cream or leave in contioner (not a lot, maybe a dime size or less depending on you texture and how much hair you have). I take the moisture cream and squeeze it down the strands in that one section (squeeze not rub). Then I do the same with olive oil or castor oil. I then take that section and twist it into a big Bantu knot to keep as much length as possible. I sometimes twist the section of hair before I Bantu knot it to give it a nice curl pattern when it dries.

I've watched a few videos like this out of curiosity and, bearing in mind this is MY observation, the regimens I've seen are SO time consuming, it's no wonder the women in these videos don't wash their hair very often. It has to be more than them informing us black hair is too dry to wash more than once a week. It's got to also be the regimen, right?
@YAHSCharity9 жыл бұрын
I believe this is the case also. I don't have a long process of maintaining my hair which allows me to was my hair at least twice a week without it taking my whole life to do.
@TweetyBird45519 жыл бұрын
+YAHSCharity Thank you, YAHSCharity. Perhaps you should be the one making the video. The scalp is also skin and would most people go without showering or bathing their skin for 2 weeks? Or shower/bathe only once a week? I think your 2x/week is just fine!

+Malcolm Wallace Lol, it's funny you telling me about the microbiota that inhabit our bodies inside and out. When you compare body cells to bacterial cells, the bacteria far outnumber the cells we have. It's okay, Malcolm, I know microbiology. I know about benign and opportunistic bacteria. All skin has sebaceous glands except for the skin on the palms and the plantar surfaces. I also understand apocrine glands. You forgot to mention the mites that feed on sebum. The organisms on the skin also feed on dead skin cells and other debris. What I referred to was strictly the scalp, not the rest of the body but thanks anyway.

are you nonblack? just a question lol. Black hair really is naturally dry tho. I have 4c hair and I shampoo every two weeks. A lot of black woman call the day we wash our hair wash day... because its an all day process. it doesn't HAVE to be. It depends on your methods of doing things. plus , some of us naturals treat our hair like our baby, and go out of our way to complicate things. My detangling before washing process use to be 3-4 hours on a good day, cuz I detangled on dry hair with coconut oil. No I use a spray bottle and detangle wet. It only takes 45 min. to detangle my whole head now. I shampoo in sections. Takes maybe 30-45 minutes to shampoo. then I apply the conditioner and comb through each section again. takes about 15 min. Then , I deep condition every time I wash my hair. 45 min to an hour. then I go back in the shower to rinse it out. thats just the wash process. then I have to mousterize, seal , and style . the style can take a short or long time depending on what it is.

Black is not a hair texture All black people have different hair I don't do what she does either and I naturally have long hair that just runs in the family but I'm not silly enough to compare what I do with another sister just because we're both black
@sdseals20769 жыл бұрын
It's not silly, but people are watching this for advice.
@nandel56579 жыл бұрын
Well just be happy that you aren't one of those sisters who after years of living in a oppressive society that taught them to hate their hair and finally decided to go natural Only to realize they've lost touch of how their ancestors took care of their hair Again we're not all the same I have three sisters Same parents and we all have different hair textures Although all of us are able to grow long hair We take care of it differently All I need is conditioner ACV water and oil Someone else might feel they need to do more to manage the hair that they aren't used to taking care of Some of our sisters hairs are more brittle or more thick than others and requires more patience to retain length If such things don't apply to you than so be it but don't leave comments that make simplicity out of something that some of our sisters actually struggle with Its selfish when clearly there are a ton of them who see this advice as beneficial If anything we should be thanking this woman for going out of her way to demonstrate what she does in hopes that it would help others out Shalom sis Keep things positive Sometimes we belittle each other without the intent or realization

According to who ? When I was younger hair day took nearly the whole day Before Black people started getting lazy women would do their daughters hair every weekend and manage it daily to keep it neat It was wash condition detangle treatment go play outside to let it air dry Then sit under the trees and get our hair braided and styled I don't think we're watching the same video at all lol Her hair looks healthy so what she's doing is working for her My mother used to make homemade batches of conditioner with eggs avacado mayo oils and whatever else to put in our hair sometimes over night and although I don't do that today I still don't see anything wrong with mixing three conditioners to get a perfect mixture thats just right for her That can help others idk Shalom sis

I re-moisturize every week with water, oil, and my alma heavy cream. I don't need to do it more than that because when your hair is in protective styles you don't loose moisture quickly. I don't use the ACV while wearing my twists only during the washing process. I don't get a lot of scalp odor even if I work out heavy. If my hair is wet from sweat I let my hair down to dry. After it is dried I apply the Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee directly to my scalp. It smells amazing :)
