Right around the 4 minute mark, WVBF's Ron Robin mentions that he's playing song #8 on that evening's TNT. I have not thought about that in decades! TNT was "Top Nine Tonight" and starting at 7pm they would play the top 9 most requested songs of the day. I seem to remember Aerosmith's "Train Kept A Rollin'" being at #1 for many weeks. Thanks for a great memory!

"Electronic Mama... WVBF... Framingham... Boston." That was a really good station in the 70s. I also remember Ron Robin on WBZ.

The "Shoe Fly" ad is GOLD! "Mad" magazine would have been proud to make it!

i REMEMBER all these stations! I also remember WHUE-AM-FM on the dial positions where WWJD(Spanish Christian) and WZLX-FM(classic rock) are today. They were a beautiful music competitor to WJIB! And when WWEL went to disco, they got most of that audience! Wow!

Yes, WWEL AM+FM became WXKS-FM (Kiss-108) and WXKS-AM- Music Of Your Life (40's, big-band). The AM is now a spanish-language station. WEL was a competitor among many like WHAV, WSSH, WMTQ + WZID in NH, WSRS, WCOZ and WHUE (all FMs). WJIB was one of the earliest from '67. In the 60's, even WAAF was playing similar music from Worcester.

Austin In Boston(Greg Austin) also did a brief stint working for Bill Todd(Johnny Williams WRKO, Cat Simon on KHJ) in Palm Springs at then KCHV(Now KCLB). I know this because I worked there then. He was excellent on WVBF, but make no mistake it was Magic Christian who was the best and drove the station to high ratings.

Magic Christian had a great radio voice and a good sense of humor.

Harry Chase was the Tagg Voice on the WVBF Commercials. He did Mornings there for a couple of years before Austin In Boston. Ron Robin had been on WMEX before WVBF. Charlie Kendall would go on to work WBCN a couple of years after this. BZ Fm Had Capt. Ken before he made it to BCN. Also Clark Smith. And the great talk show "Talk To the People" on Saturday Mornings. Not to forget "Bummer Record Of The Week"

Glad someone else remembers BZFM, "Talk To the People", "Bummer Record Of The Week", "The Supergroups", the "Top 40 Countdown" and the "Top 20 Voteline" (254-2525), not to mention "The Music Show". Even "The Capt. Ken Show" where I first heard a Monty Python track ("Spam").

Was that the same Austin Davis from WODS in the 90's? I always thought his moniker was 'Austin Of Boston' on that station. Did it change or did I just hear it wrong? Because I didn't note it before, here's the year-dates of when I made these recordings: WBCN- late 1974; WVBF- (all except the last cut)- late 1974; WBZ-FM - K. Shelton- late 1974, Edmund Fitzgerald- 1976, KISS- 1977; WWEL- late 1975.

Generally speaking, that station (AM + FM) were, in the 60's: WHIL. In the 70's: WWEL. In the late 70's and beyond: WXKS.

WBZ-FM previously used another frequency at 106.7 FM but it is now WMJX and it is owned by Greater Media. WBZ-FM is currently used at 98.5 FM.

"Austin in Boston" was the one on "Stereo 105" eventually ending up on "The Big 8" - CKLW. "Austin of Boston" was not the same jock.
I should also add that even WBCN wasn't always what it is (or was..). B-Boston C-Concert N-Network; they played classical music before becoming (what would later be called 'The Rock of Boston') a rock station in '68.
@gregsells85493 жыл бұрын
WBCN, as a classical station, had sister stations in New York (WNCN) and Hartford (WHCN). No relation, but a kindred rock station, would be KNCN Corpus Christi (C101).
