MT-09 Bike Reveal & Black Widow 230mm GP Style Full Exhaust System

Hi Guys,
This is my new bike, a 2014 Yamaha MT-09. I got this delivered last night. I fitted a power bronze screen to it and the Black Widow 230MM GP Style Full Exhaust System. The Exhaust system is a cracking bit of kit at at over 600 quid cheaper than Akrapovic it's a bargain @ £349 for a full system! I'd highly recommend it and Black Widow as a company. The MT on the other hand... WOW...

One of the best value for money exhausts around. I had the BW on my Tracer 9gt. Great sound, there's a video on my channel of fitting it and the difference in sound.

I have just bought a 15 plate mt09 with only 600 miles on the clock and after xhecking out a ton of videos i have decided ob this exhaust system, it sounds crisp, loud and spits fire 😁

That's an absolutely brilliant exhaust sound vlog cheers I'm just about to pull the trigger on a 230 mm or a 300 mm black widow same as yours Cn you tell me with baffle in is it okay or does it just give you a headache? Are u still liking or did the novelty wear off The Demon inside me tells me to go for 230 mm but my common sense side (thinking about going for long rides) tells me to go for the 300 mm

Lo mate, I personally think baffle in is acceptable but I've had cruisers in the past with loud pipes. I'm a firm believer of Loud Pipes Save Lives. Remember this exhaust is not road legal with or without the baffle. They have others that are and If i was going for it 2nd time around I'd go for the 200mm Oval Carbon Fibre

It looks so much better than the carbon akra. The headers on this exhaust actually follow the shape of the bike.

Mate. it would probably outlast the original exhaust. Honestly they're stuff is good. I have a tracer GT now and this time round I paid 330 for the scorpion and link pipe. I then sawed the headers off my old MT 2014 pipes and use that. Look at my newer videos. The scorpion is more refined ...not as raspy and high pitched. I'm not sure I'd buy another black widow over the scorpion.

LaineYMCVlog 👍 does yours suffer from the fueling problem or do you not notice it? I'm after the 07 or 09..

ChickeNBawZ hi mate. The fueling issue was apparent the minute I started riding it but it's not bad and you get used to it. It is however a bit of a death trap if you deal with the throttle in the wrong way.. Because of the torque on wet days like today I've felt the tyres slip on me with not meaning to be heavy handed. I'd highly recommend the 07 mate. I think it's a cracking looking bike and I prefer the sound of the exhaust on the 7 compared to the 9. The 7 I believe is a parallel twin so it's rumbly aggressive and much more agile and flickable and lighter. I'd happily meet you somewhere and take you a wee pillion ride on the 09 to give you an idea

Would you say this exhaust is too loud/obnoxious for commuting and everyday riding? I recently bought a 2008 Honda Hornet and was looking at buying this exhaust for it.

I'd say it was just a little smidgeon but on some bikes it's quieter or louder. If it's a Honda I wouldn't be surprised if it was slightly quieter. If it is it would be fine. I mailed black widow 2 weeks ago to ask if they had a quieter baffle and they said they did so this might help settle your mind and even if they don't have them. A universal one at the right diameter does.

biggtopkid fine mate. I noticed to no difference between setting all 3 at 14 so I kept them there. I've done a vid on how to set them if you're not sure. Bike runs fine

I can't decide between the low mount 400mm or the 300mm high mount (significantly longer)... Is this one unbearably loud like the M4 RM1 exhaust? I had to get rid of that one because it was WAY too loud.

been thinking about getting a black widow for my mt09 aswell...... i like the sound of the stock exhaust its just that you cant really hear what the engine is doing at speed cos of the wind noise. reckon ill get one of these.

I'll be honest. I got a tracer GT...spent loads of money in a Scorpion and ended up back with the original exhaust. Preferred the stock sound

It's only the MT09 Tracer model that comes with a side stand. The naked MT09 2013-2019 doesn't come with one.

Awesome, what is the model number please? I have an MT09 on a 15 plate, my mates say they can't hear it, I will show them. Fitted a Annitori quick shifter, tail tidy and a street rally seat. If you don't like the original seat, trust me on this, buy a street rally one. It feels like a different bike. Or and I have changed the rear shock for a ZX6R one, piece of pee to fit and makes the bike handle 100 times better. Thanks for the video man.

Darren Moxon nice shout on the rally seat and shock idea. They don't seem to have model numbers on their pipes. If you visit blackwidowexhausts.co.uk select the option for yamaha and mt 09 then select low level exhausts.. That's there full range of pipes for this bike. Think this one's about half way down on page one.

Thanks man, I've found it. I'm going to order one asap. I know it says you don't have to remap the fuelling with this aftermarket exhaust but have you noticed a rise in engine temp compared to when you had the standard exhaust on?

Well, I went and ordered my new exhaust last night. I will let you know when it's fitted. I love your reaction when you first fire the bike up with the new exhaust. Ordered the same one as you, looks the best for the bike and the blue tip sort of goes with the wheel colour.

Big T No. You can go into the engine management system on the dash Co setting and change each cylinder to 14 :) it apparently takes the lumpyness off it but I didn't experience any lumpyness as standard or on 14 so I've set them all to 14 anyway. You just put key in ignition, hold both buttons on the display. Turn ignition on and keep holding buttons until it comes up diag. Then release the buttons and hold the 2 of them again then it should say Co. Release then hold the 2 buttons again and it should then allow you to set the Co (air to fuel ratio) of each cylinder. Set all to 0 for standard pipe. If custom pipe set all to 14. If custom pipe and custom air filter set all to 17 or 18. :)

Big T it was the tracer I wanted but got the MT for 4k cheaper and made it a tourer :) put a top box on it and a screen. Tracer and the MT are cracking bikes. Go for it.

I fitted a similar BW 230mm gp-tipped exhaust to my CBR650f the other day, and honestly, the video doesn't do the exhaust justice. Enjoy riding about with a huge smile on yer puss! lol

I think out would just be too obnoxious :) It's quite a new bike, only done around 2,500 miles, and the original header gaskets looked good, so didn't replace them. But I think I'm going to before taking it out on the road, just for peace of mind. It's amazing what will keep a man awake at night lol

Ross Macdonald yeah defo amazed by the torque and grunt it has. I was expecting to jump on it after the R6 and for it to feel... Like it lacked but it really doesn't.
