One thing to note...I don't know if this is common knowledge but, in order to insert the pump hose into the transmission the car has to be in neutral or 6th gear. I didn't know this and left it in 1st gear and the fill hole was blocked by the transmission internals. The hose would go in about a half inch and leak out the fluid as I pumped it in.

**ALWAYS** loosen the fill plug first. Never after its been drained. If you cant get the fill plug off for whatever reason, but you have already drained it........you are fucked. So never drain it until the fill plug is off or at least loose.

FYI, make sure your car is leveled good. Slightest incline will fill it to improper level and could get speed sensor problems. Ask me how I know...

Couldn't you fill it from the top? I know on my old T-5 you could remove your shifter and fill from there.

I wouldn't say get rid of the music, just turn it down a bit more so you can hear the voice better, have the music just be a filler back ground thing rather than a listening point that takes away from the info gathering. :)

Just did this fluid upgrade to my 2017 V-6 6 speed MT82 transmission. Excellent results, smoother easier shifts and no coarse notchy synchro action when cold. I've already installed a Barton two post shifter box bracket which eliminated all the slop from the cheap squishy OEM piece and added a larger que ball type shift knob. Really pretty happy with the action and feel of the shifts now!

Dick Johnson. The transmission shifts smoother and it's not as stiff as before. I read up on BG and they have great reviews. I was lucky enough to find a certified dealer near my house at the Benz dealership. I think this is just the first step to make your transmission better and last longer but it could still use some mods like a shifter to make it perfect.

Never start a plug (drain, fill, or spark) with a wrench as you did. It can easily cross thread. Hand turn in the plug and finish tightening it with the wrench.

Just a few pointers and observations. The transmission in the S550 is the MT82, not the M82. When replacing fluids, most folks will always recommend removing the fill plug first (tranny, rear end, or anything) in case its frozen solid and you cant refill your system. Otherwise, looks straight forward, and the next thing on my list. Only difference is that I use AMSOIL full synthetic.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm definitely trying this fluid. The trans bracket bushing you mentioned introduces NVH, which is a product of higher durometer material (soft rubber OEM dampens more). I have one, and removed part of the center bushing leaving the "ears" if that makes sense. Much better.

@@jr567 yeah shifting feels a lot smoother. Thanks for the advice on changing the fluid. Now my next project is the exhaust. I'm changing resonator for sure but don't know if to go straight pipe or add flow master 10 mufflers? Small mufflers but suppose to be very aggressive.

Not sure if you tried the drill out of the trans bushing? I used a 1” hole saw and drilled dead center of the flat flap. Re installed and it cut NVH in half but still stiffer than factory. I’ve heard some cut that flap off completely and it still stiffens a bit with even less NVH. Good luck bro.

Definitely recommend removing fill plug first. It wouldn't be a good day to remove drain and realize something is wrong with fill plug, rather you can't get it out.

My owners manual says to use dual clutch fluid. How has this fluid held up after a couple years?

I went with Amsoil MTG think it's 75/90 great for hot climates, not so good for cold. I have to go from 1st to 3rd till it warms up, then its fine. I'm gonna probably go back to the Ford fluid.

Scotty N shifting for me during the winter is lot harder. I warm the engine before driving and also go over the shift while im still parked. Im 57000 miles on mine, so getting ready for my first trans change. What was the oil you guys used?

Thanks for sharing. I’ve read that the initial clunk is the two piece drive shaft. But I may be wrong. My mt82 has a whine noise I wonder if ford will go with a different fluid some time.

I would be the trans asap, due to its poor performance with the OEM fluid. Not sure on the required change milage, but give your owners manual a check.

Would doing this on my 2017 mustang gt? I only have 36k miles on it and I'm the 3rd owner sometimes shifting to 2 to 3 it sounds like grinds and pops into gear was just curious if this would get rid of the issue again it only happen like every 3rd or 4th time shifting into 3rd

They know this now for a fact. However, they still use motorcraft synthetic blend in their vehicles. Why would they do that??? Your assertion is flawed, despite being an opinion shared by many.

Mustangs are such a piece of junk. I could put up with the engine tick, cheap plastic interior and glitchy electronics, but that crap Chinese manual 6 speed in the GT was the last straw for me! Sold the Mustang after 2 months! I bought a real car, with a quality transmission and couldn't be happier! No wonder Ford stopped making cars...I guess we should all be thankful for that!
