.Today is the day I’ve been waiting 4 🙂
วันสำคัญมาถึงแล้วคร้บ หลังจากผิดหวังกับสภาพอากาศเมื่อวานทำให้ไฟลท์ยกเลิก หกโมงเช้าวันนี้ ผจก.โฮสเทล ขี่มอเตอร์ไซค์ไปส่งที่สนามบินเหมือนเคย ผ่านด่านเข้าไปนั่งรอ สายการบินคนละอันกับเมื่อวาน ผ่านเข้าเกต เหมือนเดินทางสายการบินปกติ มีรถมารับไปส่งที่ลานจอดเฮลิคอปเตอร์ วันนี้เราบินกับ Manang Air กัปตัน 1 คนและ ผดส. 5 คน เต็มพิกัด สามคนคือผม ชายหนุ่มเยอรมันและหญิงสาวสเปนคือลูกทัวร์ที่ต่างคนต่างมา อีกสองคนเป็นชาวบ้านที่ขนของกลับไปยังที่พักบนภูเขา ผมถูกจัดให้นั่งตรงกลางด้านหลัง เครื่องบินออกประมาณแปดโมง ผ่านตัวเมืองกาฏมัณฑุมุ่งสู่เทือกเขาหิมาลัย ไต่ความสูงผ่านหมู่เมฆและภูเขาขึ้นไปเรื่อยๆ ได้เห็นภูมิประเทศแปลกตา นาขั้นบันไดแบบอลังการ น้ำตกทิ้งตัวจากภูเขาสูงมีให้เห็นตลอดทาง
เราแวะจอดเติมน้ำมันที่ Lukla Airport ที่ความสูง 2,846 เมตร เป็นสนามบินที่ได้ชื่อว่าอันตรายที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในโลก เพราะหลุดจากรันเวย์ไปคือหุบเหวและเทือกเขาสูง ผู้คนส่วนใหญ่จะบินมาลงที่นี่ เพื่อเริ่ม trekking ไปยัง เอเวอเรสต์เบสแคมป์ใช้เวลา 10-15 วัน
บินออกจาก Lukla แล้วแวะส่งชาวบ้านสองคนลงบนเทือกเขาระหว่างทาง แล้วกัปตันก็พาลูกทัวร์ทั้งสามบินไปยัง Kalapatthar ที่ความสูง 5,643 เมตร กัปตันชี้ให้ดูยอดเขาสูงสีขาวที่ปกคลุมไปด้วยหิมะเรียงรายและหนึ่งในนั้นคือเอเวอเรสต์ที่เราฝันไว้ว่าจะต้องมาเห็นให้ได้สักครั้งในชีวิต ความตื่นเต้นดีใจที่ได้เห็นมันอธิบายเป็นคำพูดได้ยากมาก
และแล้วกัปตันก็พาเครื่องลงจอดให้เราได้ไปถ่ายรูปกัน ความรู้สึกแรกที่เท้าลงสัมผัสพื้นคือ เหมือนตัวลอยๆ อากาศเบาบาง และฟ้าใสสุดๆ ได้เห็นยอดเอเวอเรสต์แบบเต็มตาโดยไม่มีอะไรกั้น ผมพยายามเก็บภาพ เก็บบรรยากาศบนนั้นให้ได้มากที่สุด แต่ความรู้สึกเหมือนยังกึ่งตื่นกึ่งฝัน กัปตันมาช่วยถ่ายรูปให้ ระหว่างนั้นเหมือนจิตใจสั่นๆแปลกๆ เบลอๆ สมองคิดอะไรอยู่ไม่รู้แล้วโลกก็มืดดับไป รู้สึกตัวอีกทีอยู่บนฮอ กัปตันเอาสายออกซิเจนมาใส่ให้ สติเริ่มคืนกลับมา ผมหมดสติไปประมาณ 7-8 วินาที กัปตันกับหนุ่มเยอมันต้องช่วยกันหามขึ้นมาบนเครื่อง หลังจากได้ออกซิเจนได้ดื่มน้ำ อาการก็เริ่มดีขึ้นตามลำดับ แต่ก็ยังรู้สึกมึนๆและผะอืดผะอมอยู่ กลบความรู้สึกตื่นเต้นและดื่มด่ำกับยอดเอเวอเรตต์ไปหมดสิ้น เราอยู่บนนั้นได้นานสุดไม่เกิน 15 นาที และต้องบินกลับมาที่ความสูงต่ำกว่าทันที เพื่อป้องกันโรคจากความสูง
เราแวะพักทานอาหารเช้ากันที Everest View Hotel สามารถมองเห็นยอดเขาได้จากโรงแรมนี้ ที่ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นโรงแรมที่อยู่สูงที่สุดที่ 3,962 เมตร ยังรู้สึกมีอาการมึนหัวจะอาเจียนอยู่ตลอด แต่ก็พยายามฝืนกินให้พอมีแรงบ้าง ใช้เวลาอยู่ที่โรงแรม45 นาที ก็บินกลับมายังสนามบินกาฏมัณฑุ
แยกย้ายกันกลับ จบภารกิจพิชิตยอดเขาเอเวอเรสต์ด้วยตาในราคา 900 us ครับ

I remember a few years ago, I flew to see my mom in Dallas from where I live in Salt Lake City, and we did a stopover in Phoenix, and we flew over the Grand Canyon on the way and seeing the GC from 30K feet in the air was basically worth the price of the plane ticket. Being able to see, not only Mt. Everest, but Nuptse, Lhotse, Changtse, Cho Oyo, Maualuga, etc....basically the Himalayan Range from up high is more than worth the price of $900! Those mountains have been the stuff of legend and tragedy for centuries! I'm currently reading, 'The Hunt For Mt. Everest' by Craig Storti; it was just published and covers the whole pre-history leading up to the 3 British expeditions of 1921, '22, & '24! Everest was the stuff of mystery and fascination for many years until Europeans finally laid eyes on it! Thanks for posting! Glad you enjoyed it and we're able to share!

Is need to book in advance to fly from lukla to EBC?or it s always available daily?

I have no information about Lukla to EBC but from Kathmandu to EBC got a flight daily from different airlines, better book in advance and the flight can cancel anytime de to the bad weather. The price depends on the number of passengers from 900-3000 usd (normally cost 900-1100 usd per person).

My flight only flew overlook Everest base camp and stoped at Kalapatthar to enjoy the view of the Everest peak for 10 mins and flew back to have breakfast at Everest view hotel. FYI There’s are others flight landing at the base camp too.

Helicopter can fly all year roundabout jun - aug can be challenge with the rainy season weather.
