Nice job with the video. Unlike other videos, this one showed me that I can do this hike, or at least I should try this hike.

Brilliant! Another trip down memory lane. My buddy (Airborne) and I walked this hill a few years back. The helipad looked better back then with a picnic bench... I have a photo somewhere of me hand feeding a squirrel or chipmunk 😊 We didn't make the summit as there was static in the air (my first time seeing a walking stick hum with the electricity)... we bailed from the dip before the summit section. If I remember correctly, both of us were surprised to see seashells in the rock. Another cracking video. Many thanks ☘️

I keep on thinking I'm ready for this one, and then I watch this video and reality kicks in. Thanks for showing the detail on the technical parts!
@HarlanFox--Scrambles6 жыл бұрын
No Problem. You could always go up to the summit ridge which is about 1300m elevation gain and turn around there. The ridge isn't very hard for the 1st half, just gets a little more technical in the 2nd half.

I first did this in 1981. Little or no trail then from the bottom to the shoulder above the helipad (was just built in 1981). But the ridge hasn't changed. Technically easy but "pucker up" is a good phrase. You have to stay awake on that traverse!

Great videos Harlan. I have watched many of your videos, and enjoy each and every one. I have just started scrambling, and love the scenery and exercise. I take lots of still photos, but I will have to bring my GoPro along next time. I prepare multi page trip reports of my hikes/scrambles and send them to my friends and co-workers. Some of them think that I am crazy. :) I am probably close to your age (56), and I live in Calgary as well. Perhaps we will bump into each other on a scramble. :)

I consider myself a hiker but fair hiking is 2 hours away from me and good hiking is 4 hours away from me...so I am an out of shape hiker that doesn't hike enough. I may be going out to Glacier NP in August and I would like to hike the Dawson Pitamakan Pass loop. Look into it on KZbin, It's pretty epic....but It's going to kick my ass up and down the street and may be a bad idea...because I am not in big hike shape....but I'll be 50 in August and I fear I will only be in worse shape as time goes on!

Been up to the platform twice but never to the ridge, been thinking about it but the photos I've seen didn't give a good impression of how narrow/steep it is. Looks pretty sketchy in this video, how does it compare to Nihahi ridge? one which I have done and am comfortable on.
@HarlanFox--Scrambles5 жыл бұрын
You can walk up to the start of the ridge which is roughly another 300m elevation gain from the helipad. Parts of the ridge are similar to Nihahi (Although I only went to the south summit) but there are a couple of very narrow spots, which you saw. You could always start the ridge and then turn back when it gets too uncomfortable for you.

Is the top ridgline of Lady Macdonald wider or narrower than the ridgeline of Nihahi Ridge? How is LadyMac ridgeline for footholds? That said, neither Nihahi nor LadyMac looks more precarious than The Wedge where it's game over with one wrong step of imbalance.
@HarlanFox--Scrambles2 жыл бұрын
... I found Lady Mac to be more exposed but for a short time only. I think Nihahi can become more exposed if you continue it on to Compression ridge.
