How many of you would like to see more APRS uses and tips? It sure saved my time line on this hike and many others. Let me know.

APRS how to video when it comes to field use like this would be interesting for sure. I like that your wife can check on you on hikes. Good thing when going solo. Or stuck in an airport. :)

Great 👍🏼 activation Jerry! Yes an APRS video or two or three would be great for us newbies and veteran Ham Radio operators. We do get rusty and as they say, if you don’t use it you lose it!

Thanks George and I’m getting as many of these hikes in as I can before I retire and move to Florida in the next 3-5 years.

Nice video. I always wondered about hiking up the front side as you did. I always hike it from the saddle between Lawlor and Strawberry. I think it is a tough hike from the saddle to the summit of Lawlor, but your route route looked harder. Enjoyed hearing the noise on your radio during the activation, as I am always thinking on that summit if it is just me with all that noise. Mike - N6MKW

Thanks Mike and good to have you here. Ya, when I went down the way you go up i was wondering how I preferred it myself. I saw quite a few mountain lion tracks up there so be careful.

So in looking at the link it takes you to the right pole but isn’t showing the option for what length to select.... I’ll do more digging to see if i can resolve this all the way to make it easier.. the 7.2m is the version i have and suggest and on my webpage i have the older version which is a 5.4m. If you have a Kohl’s they usually have a Amazon return point there that is super simple and I apologize for any inconvenience.

I’m updating the link now. Should be posted in an hour or two. I’ll post a message to let you know once it’s done. They will be in the comment section of this video and on my website.

@KG6HQD Jerry That link you posted, I ordered it, and received today. However I thought it would be longer, but it is shorter than the old fiberglass you recommended in the past. I Honestly thought I was getting a 7.2m, but the last part of the title reads it is really a 4.5m. Is that the right one or should the link be for a 7.2m version?, did you mean to post this one? www.amazon.com/rivulet-Fishing-Telescopic-2-7M-7-2M-Tenkara/dp/B07V7B44Q9/

Are you using a Chinese Carbon fishing rod? I also use it for my Inv V DP. I enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing! JP1QEC mot.

Good morning from my side of the planet :). I imagine they are Chinese made and they do appear to be carbon fiber. I updated the link in this video description area so check it out and let me know if they are the same ones you use. I use it for my inverted vee setup as well and they are great, especially when there are no trees available.

@@KG6HQDJerrySOTA I use this : www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B004KVC4OA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Took 2 or 3 tip rods out because too weak. The Carbon fiber is danger because it spli with thin when become old. But, I like it with light weight and cheapness. JP1QEC mot.

That looks basically like what I'm using. I updated the link on my website to show both of the ones I have and use. kg6hqd.us/the-hqd-gear/ . Guess the real test will be how long it lasts but they are so cheap and I use them so much I do view them as a fairly expendable item.

Stunning scenery out there. I'd be hiking every day if I lived near that. Is that video from the Go Pro 7? - watching on my big TV and the resolution is incredibly sharp. Yes on APRS videos - I really know nothing about it. 73 de ke2sx

Hey Gregg - this is a very beautiful and diverse state. Too bad it’s CA lol. It is from my GoPro H7 Black and shot at 1080p but upscale to 4K so it’s pretty decent. I love that GoPro by the way. Will do on APRS videos 👍🏻. 73 my friend

LOL - sadly, that is true! You're almost to the finish line though - head to NC when you retire. Speaking of hiking in CA, my son just left this morning for LAX - he's doing Whitney this week.
@KG6HQDJerrySOTA5 жыл бұрын
I'd like to know how he enjoyed Whitney. For you flatlands out East these mountains in CA are as big as the tax rates lol
@Hogdriver885 жыл бұрын
I'll take the mountains, but you can have the tax rates lol. He had a great time. Tuesday night at Portal Camp, Wednesday night at Outpost Camp, Thursday night at Trail Camp, and the final climb to the top starting Friday morning at 0330. He lives basically on a sand bar so 14,505' is pretty tall. He'll be back to my qth on Wednesday - can't wait to see the pics.

Ya, I’ve heard them called Spanish Swords too, which is appropriate. It’s my understanding the Native Americans used them and the fine fibers to sew with. Sounds reasonable to me for sure cuz they are needle sharp.

I have an APRS Tx question. If you running APRS on your ht or on another APRS Tx app. On the APRS tx app do you have to be broadcasting your position on APRS to be able to send a APRS message? Or can you just open the app and send a APRS message to an ht or another APRS tx? Hopes that’s not to confusing . 73 Kn6mat
@KG6HQDJerrySOTA5 жыл бұрын
It’s not confusing and that actually came up. You do need to hit start (which broadcasts your location) in order for the two way messages to work. Not sure why but 🤷🏼♂️
