It's a beautiful stretch of land to visit... I remember going to Christmas Eve mass in the old Church of St. J & A sometime in the late 60s, a few years before the great fire in which the front facade had only survived...The church back then might've been part of the Mount Loretto complex, but because it was so large, it was also the local Roman Catholic parish for the neighborhoods in that area... The church had been rebuilt two years after the great fire in late 1973, but at only 2/3 or even half the size of the original structure... From what I heard, the sanctuary is too small for high mass these days, and is only used for special religious occasions now...

When you visit Mt. Loretto Beach and surrounding area, you don't feel like you're in New York City! Today, I saw ground hogs, 3 young deer, gulls, 3 types of Butterflies:.We have a few Bald Eagles, but I didn't see them today. a Mourning Cloak, a Cabbage White, and a few Silvery Blues (very small). A couple I talked to told me they saw a few small turtles in the pond. Oh, and I saw a Red-winged Blackbird.
