Beautiful film! Incredible race sticking to the perfect ideals of moving in the mountains, no switchbacks, no defined route, just hit the summit as fast as possible and try and make it down alive. Thank you Salomon Trail running for these films.

Ran this race in '96 & 97 when I lived in Kenai and Soldotna. What a race and what an event. It looked like fun in 2015 and the winners made it look easy. I also loved the Lost Lakes Run and Crow Pass, but Mt. Marathon was the pinnacle event. What a party!

Really cool to watch. I lived in Seward for a short while and remember everyone talking about "the spaniard" who was favored to win. It was the buzz around town. July 4th in Seward is a truly magical day and I hope things soon return to what is shown here.

Yet another Salomon film where we trail runners feel that connection, sympathise with what it takes and enjoy the feelings of what the running community and environment brings. Well done to all those who took part in the race an those who made it happen, as with ever event, its the background crew who we as runners should be grateful

I grew up in Alaska and we did this every July 4th with a group of high school friends for bragging rights - not in Seward but just outside of Anchorage up a 6,400' mountain called pioneer peak. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Peak_(Alaska) Good memories!

Interesting you mention this. David Norris and Kilian Jornet will square off in this years race. I think Norris will have the advantage being able to train in that environment more often, but Jornet took it easy in 2015, very curious to see how this one turns out.

I will never get over how Emelie Forsberg did this race. She shows up in ribbon-tied hair with a flower in it smiling, laughing, and looking like a young girl going to church sunday school. Then she turns into a beast and absolutely FLIES down the mountain shale like she was a banshee. She had the local legend and NCAA champion track runner Allie Ostrander eating her dust.

Can anyone here explain how Paul LeMaitre disappeared forever during this race in 2012?? It seems so perplexing, although like most things the answer is likely simple. Thanks. And RIP Mr. LeMaitre.
@salty_berserker_channel2 жыл бұрын
I have a theory that he got lost on the way down (easy to do if you've never been on the mountain as it had happened) fell off a cliff with a serious injury, crawled under a rock or cavernous feature when it started to rain that night and died. This explains why the FLIR on the rescue helo couldnt pick up a heat signature. Any theory that he staged it so he could flee with some kind of insurance money is bunk. Staging it with rescue parties, helicopters, and known last position would be the dumbest plan ever. Going on a "training run" days earlier would have been a way easier way to intentionally disappear. His wife settled for $20k is all

4 minutes of this poor video was enough - there are videos of the Mount Marathon races on youtube which give an good insight into this race . Salomon seems to be incapable of making decent vids about races and follow the same pointless format of hopping from one person to another for one or two sentences - result boring format videos.
