I am so happy that I stumbled onto this little gem of a video. It captures the era better than any video I have ever seen. Nice video of the pits with the riders, bikes and babes chilling pre race. Good coverage of practice and then epic duals of Bailey/Glover, Johnson/Lechien and O’Mara/Ward. 1984 doesn’t get any better than this. Outstanding!

Factory bikes and box vans! Man those were the days!!!
@alanmccooker78299 ай бұрын
Yes we had box vans or panel trucks. No plastic racing mats either usually. Most of the time our bikes were set up on milk crates or homemade welded bike stands. Sitting right on the grass or dirt lol. I started carrying me a canvas drop cloth to spread out. And I'm talking factory support rider. Usually had to share the van with your team mate and all our gear etc crammed in it. But loved it I'd do it all over again.

Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. Yes, there were some great battles. Johnson was pretty fast on that Yamaha(with the look over at Lechien going up the straight). And Johnny O blowing over the last turn berm for second place finish.

Me also. They sold a lot more bikes when any kid who wanted to make a buck/hr could buy one. Now, the tracks and trails we built are all grown in. "Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end. We burned up gas, forever and a day. We lived the life we chose. We'd fight and never lose,--for we were young and sure to have our way."
@Lightning7474.6 жыл бұрын

Those were the golden years of motocross racing, the music was great, being able to afford two bikes and rebuilding top ends on a Saturday night till 10 PM only to get up at 5 and get to the race track. Yep, it was a fantastic time to grow up.
@shawndoucette97976 жыл бұрын
You’re right. Those were the days when we could all have a factory bike. Now the gap between those who have and those who have not is to large for anybody without a ton of money to be competitive. I miss those days.
@EarthSurferUSA6 жыл бұрын
@@shawndoucette9797 I am sorry Shawn, but what the heck are you talking about? First of all, the bikes you see here are actual factory works bikes, (made illegal in 1986 by the AMA, which was a bad idea IMO), and the only people racing these $50,000 bikes are the top factory racers with a contract with the factory to win races. Nobody else had a factory bike, and we were fine about it, and the same people won after the factory works bike was gone in the USA. The factory ride is earned by talent, and even you, with the new marxist bernie sanders commie attitude you will suffer under in the future, could get a factory ride in this sport----if you were talented enough. I don't think you are old enough to miss those days. We did not have a marxist education back then. And if we did, we were too busy riding to pay attention. "Have and have have not!!!!!!" in a free society where you can start your own business if your not too lazy to learn something to create a value,----that is your choice! You were taught to make the choice to be a have not. Sorry Shawn man, I am sick of this marxist crap taking over the USA. Yes, those were the days.

Works bikes! What a great year for MX! I remember waiting for cycle news or MXA or come out so I could see where the 125class battle stood! But those factory bikes....worst decision the AMA ever made....well maybe the second worse thing they ever did (4-strokes...meh!). Those Honda and Kawasaki works bikes were just so trick in ‘84! Meanwhile, poor Brock is pressing on with that aircooled bike.... good times, the 80’s👍👍👍👍

Boy oh boy. What would you give to own one of those 1984 Honda Works bikes? I understand most works bikes got crushed by the factories after their racing days. What a shame. It would be cool to see the old works bikes from all manufactures from 63 to 86 in private circulation. I wonder what they would be selling for today? I wonder if the owners would ride them? :)

@@jackporter4180 Yes, the dark-haired girl is Gina, David Bailey's wife. Not sure but I think the blonde is Lisa Petty, Preston Petty's daughter. pit tootsies hanging around. Do they still call them that? 🤔 😄
@EarthSurferUSA6 жыл бұрын
Who cares what others accept. I still call great looking girlfriends of racers "Pitt Tootsies". But that is only because they are supportive of their boyfriend racer, and look good doing it. It has nothing to do with their mind as/or a derogatory statement, because I am sure most are sharper than their boyfriends after the racing is done. :)
