Lost Judgment is an action-adventure video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It was released globally on September 24, 2021. A sequel to the 2018 game Judgment (a spin-off of the Yakuza series), the game focuses on private detective Takayuki Yagami as he investigates a criminal accused of both sexual harassment and murder. Alongside several of his friends, Yagami manages to see the links between the suspect Akihiro Ehara and his links with a series of murders committed against bullies in Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho. The game builds on the action sequences from the first game while revising its stealth elements. Yagami uses two returning fighting styles plus the new aikido-based Snake. Lost Judgment is the directorial debut of Kazuki Hosokawa who aimed to make it superior to its predecessor on which he worked as producer while attempting to also create an appealing narrative. Major Japanese voice actors include the returning Takuya Kimura (Yagami) and the newcomers Hiroshi Tamaki (Soma) and Koji Yamamoto (Kuwana) whose characters rival Yagami as the writers wanted their stories to explore the subject of bullying and whether or not Yagami has the power to stop it. Like its predecessor, the game received positive reviews from critics. The plot was generally praised for handling multiple controversial subjects in a serious manner though the pacing and style was the subject of mixed responses. Nevertheless, Yagami and the cast were well received. The gameplay was also praised, particularly the new improved fighting styles, but the stealth and parkour moves were often noted to be poorly developed. Downloadable content in the form of new sidequests and a story expansion focused on Yagami's partner Masaharu Kaito was also released. In Lost Judgment, the player controls Takayuki Yagami as he explores the Japanese cities of Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho (recreations of the real-life Kabukichō and Isezakichō districts, respectively). Yagami can switch between three fighting styles in battle. In addition to the crowd-control Crane style and the one-on-one Tiger style from Judgment, Yagami uses the newly added Snake style for counterattacking and disarming enemies. As in the previous game, Lost Judgment also features stealth segments, platforming segments, and "tailing" missions where Yagami chases suspects around the city.[2] The trailing sections of the game have been changed in order to give the players more activity in the segment.[3] New to Lost Judgment is the "Detective Dog", a Shiba Inu named Ranpo whom Yagami can take on walks to find hidden items or track suspects via their scent. The game also features a "School Stories" system, where Seiryo High School's Mystery Research Club president Kyoko Amasawa requests Yagami investigate and assist other clubs and students in order to solve a greater mystery. Yagami can fulfill these requests by taking on side missions and playing various minigames.[1] Some of these side missions include coaching the school's dance team through a rhythm minigame; building and controlling a robot in competitions for the robotics club; defeating a biker gang in a series of motorcycle races; and helping a troubled teenager overcome his violent tendencies through boxing training. Similar to previous games, the player has access to emulations of classic Sega games. The in-game Club Sega arcades feature multiple playable arcade cabinets, including Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Super Hang-On, Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, Motor Raid, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. Yagami can also play several Master System games in his office, including Alex Kidd in Miracle World; Fantasy Zone; Secret Command; Quartet; Enduro Racer; Penguin Land; Maze Hunter 3-D; Woody Pop; and Snail Maze. Yagami's partner, Masaharu Kaito, also appears as a playable character via downloadable content. Kaito uses two different fighting styles: Bruiser, which focuses on offense and utilizes quick evasion; and Tank, which focuses on defense and environmental weapon usage. Sega has stated that Kaito's story campaign lasts roughly 10 hours. Private detective Takayuki Yagami and his partner Masaharu Kaito are invited by their friends Fumiya Sugiura and Makoto Tsukumo to assist their fledgling detective business located in the Ijincho district of Yokohama to solve a bullying case. Chairman Yuzo Okuda of the prestigious Seiryo High School, explains he wants to hire the detectives to covertly investigate the school to determine if any bullying has been taking place among the students, especially since the school had gotten involved in a bullying scandal in 2017 when a student, Toshiro Ehara, committed suicide and a student teacher, Hiro Mikoshiba, had gone missing two months prior. Yagami covertly discourages Koda's bullies from targeting her by convincing the rest of her class to stand up to them. Yagami receives a call from his friend Saori Shirosaki at the Genda Law Office. Shirosaki explains that one of her clients, Akihiro Ehara, Toshiro's father, was arrested and convicted for sexual battery, but during his court testimony he revealed he knew about the death of Mikoshiba, who he holds responsible for Toshiro's suicide. However, the discovery of Mikoshiba's body and identification of his corpse only occurred after Ehara's statement, leading Shirosaki to believe Ehara was involved in Mikoshiba's death and deliberately got himself caught for sexual battery to provide himself an alibi for his murder. As Yagami investigates, he discovers that Ehara's case is connected to an attempted suicide in 2008 which led to the victim, Mitsuru Kusumoto, being trapped in a coma. Yagami learns from Seiryo teacher Yoko Sawa that Mikoshiba was in fact bullying Toshiro, but she was coerced by the school to stay silent. It is later revealed that Sawa's former homeroom teacher, who is now known by the alias Jin Kuwana, obtained a secret recording of his students bullying Mitsuru. Feeling guilty over enabling Mitsuru's bullying, Kuwana used the tape as leverage to blackmail his students into assisting him on his crusade to rid Japan of bullies by murdering those responsible for causing suicides. Yagami gains enough evidence to force Ehara's admission to his entire scheme, as he not only wanted to get revenge for Toshiro, but also to expose the flaws in Japan's legal system. However, despite these successes, Yagami is unable to save Sawa from being murdered by the RK, a Hangure gang led by Kazuki Soma, who are hunting Kuwana. Yagami discovers that the police have pinned Sawa's death on Kuwana, and RK have invaded Ijincho in full force to find Kuwana. Further investigation leads to Yagami discovering that the National Police Agency's Public Security Division, led by Hidemi Bando, has secretly hired RK to capture Kuwana, as they have learned that Mitsuru's mother, Vice Health Minister Reiko Kusumoto, murdered one of Mitsuru's bullies, Shinya Kawai, with Kuwana's assistance. With evidence of Kusumoto's crime, Public Security can blackmail her into giving them access to Japan's national pension fund of ¥160 trillion which they hope to use to jumpstart Japan's stagnant economy despite it being effectively a gamble. To avoid being used as a puppet by Public Security, Kusumoto considers turning herself in to the police, but Mitsuru finally awakens from his coma, giving Public Security all the leverage they need to force her to betray Kuwana. Intending to force a confrontation, Kuwana calls Yagami, Kusumoto, and Bando, offering to give up the location of Kawai's body. Yagami and his friends follow Soma and RK to an abandoned warehouse in Ijincho, where they battle for possession of Kawai's body. Working together with Kuwana, Yagami and his friends defeat Soma and his men. Kuwana decides to destroy Kawai's corpse to erase any possible link to Kusumoto, as he just wants her and Mitsuru to be happy. Yagami challenges Kuwana, stating if Kusumoto doesn't reveal the truth, then Sawa's death would never see justice. Both men battle with Yagami being the victor, but Yagami lets Kuwana escape. Kusumoto turns herself in to the authorities. Soma is taken into custody and Bando is formally charged for sanctioning Soma's illegal activities.

Judgment (JUDGE EYES (ジャッジアイズ):死神の遺言 Judge Eyes: Shinigami no Yuigon, lit. "Judge Eyes: The Grim Reaper's Will"), previously known as Project JUDGE, is an action-adventure/beat-'em-up game released for the PlayStation 4 on December 13, 2018 in Japan and on June 25, 2019 worldwide. The game was developed and published by SEGA as a spin-off to the Yakuza series. While the combat system of the game borrows heavily from the mainline Yakuza games (prior to the turn-based Yakuza: Like a Dragon), the storyline of the game is different as the main character's background is that of a private detective, and not a current/former yakuza member. On May 7th 2021, the game's sequel, named Lost Judgment, was announced for a worldwide release in September 2021. The main story of Judgment begins in December 2018. The game features an open world set in the universe established by the Yakuza series. It primarily focuses on the red-light district of Kamurocho, Tokyo, a fictionalized version of Kabukicho, Tokyo. Chapter 1: Three Blind Mice Main article: Judgment/Chapter 1 Disgraced ex-lawyer Takayuki Yagami works as a private detective alongside his best friend Masaharu Kaito, an ex-Matsugane Family yakuza. Around Kamurocho, three murders have taken place where the victims - Kyorei Clan yakuza - have their eyes mysteriously gouged out. Matsugane Captain Kyohei Hamura is arrested for the third murder, and Patriarch Matsugane wants Yagami to bail him out. Though he is successful in proving Hamura innocent, the identity of the true killer - "the Mole" - remains a mystery. Chapter 2: Beneath the Surface Main article: Judgment/Chapter 2 The Yagami Detective Agency investigates the murders with the help of corrupt cop Kazuya Ayabe. Hamura is annoyed by Yagami's insistence, and repeatedly warns him to back off. Yagami attempts to have Matsugane rein in his Captain, but Hamura is the one with full control over the family. Having had enough, Hamura instructs his men to dispose of Yagami, but the detective is saved in the nick of time by Jester, the mysterious leader of a burglary ring. Chapter 3: The Stick-Up Main article: Judgment/Chapter 3 Kaito asks Yagami to help him investigate the robbery that led to his expulsion: One year prior, a sole gunman had broken into the Family's office while Kaito was the only one present, held him at gunpoint and stole 10 million yen from the office safe. Their investigation leads to a confrontation with Kaito's old subordinate Toru Higashi, who reveals Hamura hired the gunman to remove Kaito, the only man stopping him from being in complete control of the Matsugane Family. Chapter 4: Skeletons in the Closet Main article: Judgment/Chapter 4 Hamura goes into hiding following an assassination attempt on him by the Kyorei Clan. They seek Masamichi Shintani - Hamura's defense attorney and Yagami's former colleague - for leads. Though Shintani says something suspicious, he refuses to elaborate. They spy on the Kyorei Clan, but are caught and saved by Jester, who reveals himself to be Fumiya Sugiura and suggests joining forces. Yagami returns to his office and is met with a grisly surprise: Shintani's corpse in the office closet. Chapter 5: Days Gone By Main article: Judgment/Chapter 5 Yagami looks into his only lead: Shintani's call to the ADDC - a research center funded by the Ministry of Health looking into a cure for Alzheimer's Disease, and an old haunt for Yagami, as the case that destroyed his reputation took place there. Issei Hoshino joins Yagami's investigation and they learn from Director Kido that Shintani wanted to speak with Shono, but he had been unavailable. Chapter 6: Collusion Main article: Judgment/Chapter 6 Sugiura discovers that the Kyorei's front company, the Kajihira Group, had originally bribed Health Minister Kazami into shutting down the ADDC and selling them the land, a deal which fell through when the miracle drug AD-9 was announced. Kyorei thugs attempt to kidnap Mafuyu, but Yagami and Kaito save her. In retaliation, Yagami, Kaito and Sugiura attack the Kyorei base, where they are approached by the Kajihira Group's Chairman, Shigeru Kajihira, who has an offer for them which he did not want them to turn down. Chapter 7: The Limelight Main article: Judgment/Chapter 7 The Kyorei Clan had a saboteur within the ADDC to help ensure the place would be shut down: its Vice-Director, Toru Hashiki. Kajihira wants Yagami and his team to look into Hashiki's death. They learn form a hostess club Hashiki visited with Shono that Hashiki had drunkenly claimed he had proof of the data behind the AD-9 research being fabricated. Yagami meets with the prosecutors to tell them he is not responsible for murdering Shintani, but they reveal their suspicion of him was a front to arrest their real suspect, Ayabe. Chapter 8: A Broken Bond Main article: Judgment/Chapter 8 With no leads on who framed Ayabe, Yagami and Kaito decide to track down Hamura, the only person they know who knows who the Mole is. Matsugane attempts to stop them, fearing for their lives, but the duo is undeterred. They find Hamura at a gambling hall and interrogate him, but he refuses to give answers. Based on Hamura's behavior, they suspect the real mastermind behind the Mole is Shono, but before they can get any more information out of him, Hamura is saved by his other thugs, who attack Yagami and Kaito before fleeing with the Captain. Chapter 9: The Miracle Drug Main article: Judgment/Chapter 9 AD-9 made remarkable progress, but has not moved into human trials. At least, not legally, as Yagami theorizes the Mole's victims were AD-9 test subjects. After Shinpei Okubo, the man whose murder trials ended Yagami's law career, still claims his innocence, Yagami and Sugiura head to the ADDC to confront Shono about their theory, where Yagami learns from the tidbits of info Shono slipped that not only had the researcher killed Koichi Waku - he had also killed Emi Terasawa to throw off a trail leading back to him. Chapter 10: Chumming the Water Main article: Judgment/Chapter 10 Pressed for time, Yagami and Kaito decide to question Hamura once more. They try to lure him out, but are lured into a trap instead, where Hamura shoots Kaito in the gut. Sugiura is able to save Yagami and they flee while Kaito is taken by Hamura and his men. The two are able to track him down in an abandoned building, where Yagami defeats Hamura and takes him to the Kyorei Clan's base for questioning after sending Kaito to the hospital. Chapter 11: Curtain Call Main article: Judgment/Chapter 11 Hamura tells Yagami how he came to be involved with the Mole, but not their identity. During the interrogation, the Matsugane Family burns the base down in search of its Captain. In the chaos, the Mole arrives with their identity hidden and attempts to silence Hamura, but Matsugane takes the bullets for him. In his dying breath, he forgives Hamura for his betrayal. Matsugane's sacrifice moves Hamura, and he finally tells Yagami the Mole's identity: Detective Mitsuru Kuroiwa. Chapter 12: Behind Closed Doors Main article: Judgment/Chapter 12 ADDC Director Kido is a potential source of info on the conspiracy, and Saori Shirosaki lures him into a honey trap for footage to blackmail him with. He tells the detectives what he knows and has Ishimatsu unknowingly lead them to Shono's secret lab. There, Sugiura reveals he is in actuality Emi's younger brother and wants revenge, but Chief Prosecutor Morita stops them and reveals himself to be part of the conspiracy. Fellow prosecutors Mafuyu and Izumida are repulsed by Morita's corruption and agree to help Yagami. Final Chapter: Down Came the Rain Main article: Judgment/Final Chapter Yagami, a remorseful Hamura, and a disillusioned Kido reveal the guilt of Vice Minister of Health Ichinose in the AD-9 conspiracy during Ayabe's trial, causing Ichinose to order a hit on Kuroiwa for silence, Morita having been arrested beforehand. Kuroiwa flees to the ADDC, and the detectives give chase. After a showdown between Yagami and Kuroiwa, Shono administers AD-9 to himself to prove its success, but dies from its toxins, revealing the side effect of dyeing the victim's eyes blue for all to see. With Okubo's name cleared, Yagami elects to remain a detective and he and Kaito begin a new case.

Yakuza 0 (龍が如く0 誓いの場所 Ryū ga Gotoku Zero: Chikai No Basho, lit. "Like a Dragon 0: The Place of Oath") is an action-adventure/beat-'em-up originally released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on March 12, 2015 in Japan and on May 14, 2015 in Taiwan, and exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on January 24, 2017 in North America and Europe. It was ported to Microsoft Windows on August 1, 2018, Xbox One on February 26, 2020, and Amazon Luna on June 24, 2021. The game was developed and published by SEGA as the sixth main installment (eleventh overall) of the Yakuza series. The game is a prequel to the rest of the series, because it is set in 1988, 7 years prior to the events of the first chapter of the first game. Continuing the tradition brought about by its two predecessors in the mainline series, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5, Yakuza 0 features multiple playable characters and main protagonist; these include series staple Kazuma Kiryu, and the recurring character Goro Majima. Chapter 1: Bound by Oath In December 1988, Kazuma Kiryu is a low-ranking member of the Tojo Clan's Dojima Family. He works in the Tokyo district of Kamurocho under the supervision of his foster father and Family Captain, Shintaro Kazama, who had been recently arrested and awaits trial. One night, he collects a debt from a salaryman by beating him up in an Empty Lot in the middle of Kamurocho at the behest of a Family loanshark. After giving the collected money to the loanshark, he goes out with his best friend and sworn brother, Akira Nishikiyama, for a night of karaoke, drinking, and ramen. The next morning, however, a news story the two see on TV reveals that the man Kiryu beat up had died and police are investigating his murder. Kiryu reports to the Dojima Family office for a meeting with the Family's three lieutenants: Daisaku Kuze, Hiroki Awano, and Keiji Shibusawa. The lieutenants inform him that they know he assaulted the murdered man and that the police will likely discover this too, so he must turn himself in to keep the police from looking too closely into the Family's operations. However, Kiryu learns from them that the man was killed with a gunshot to the head, not beaten to death, so he insists that someone is framing him for the murder. The lieutenants don't believe Kiryu and insist that he must turn himself in. As it turns out, the Empty Lot is in the middle of a portion of land that the city of Tokyo plans to buy for a massive redevelopment project. The Dojima Family has been acquiring that land for the Tojo Clan to sell to the city at an inflated value and the murder has complicated those plans, so the investigation must be resolved quickly. When the lieutenants inform him that Patriarch Dojima has offered the position of Family Captain to whichever one of them acquires the Empty Lot for him, Kiryu suspects one of them is behind the murder and is trying to frame him so they can hold his foster father responsible and remove him from the Family as well. After a brief investigation, Kiryu confirms that it was Lieutenant Kuze who arranged for the set-up. Distraught by the situation, Kiryu seeks advice from Nishiki and their foster father's right-hand man, Sergeant Osamu Kashiwagi. Kashiwagi tells Kiryu that the only way Kazama could avoid being sanctioned for Kiryu's supposed crime would be if Kiryu were expelled from the Family, but that would require the Patriarch's approval. Convinced that this is the only way, Kiryu decides to seek out the Patriarch and ask him for that, despite Kashiwagi and Nishiki's objections. Kiryu barges into the Dojima Family offices, trying to find the Patriarch, but he is intercepted by Kuze. The two engage in a heated battle until they are interrupted by the other two lieutenants and Patriarch Sohei Dojima himself. Kuze is berated for being beaten by a low-ranking thug and is forced to cut off one of his pinkies as atonement for his humiliation. Kiryu is expelled from the Family by Dojima but is informed that despite this, if the police do arrest him and convict him for the murder, then Kazama will still have to be expelled from the Family. When Kiryu protests, Dojima tells him that he is a civilian now and there is nothing he can do to change his mind. Chapter 2: The Broker in the Shadows While wandering the streets alone, Kiryu is approached by a mysterious one-armed man who claims to want to help him. The stranger takes Kiryu to his luxurious penthouse and introduces himself: His name is Tetsu Tachibana and he too seeks to own the Empty Lot. He learned of Kiryu's predicament and, impressed by his fighting skills and his courage in crossing the Dojima Family, he asks for his help. Kiryu, however, rejects the offer. Intrigued by how Tachibana knew so much about him, Kiryu and Nishiki decide to look into him and his mysterious company, the Tachibana Real Estate Agency. Through some digging around, the pair learn Tachibana Real Estate has been acquiring land all around Kamurocho through various unscrupulous means. One of Tachibana's agents, Jun Oda, catches onto Kiryu and Nishiki's investigations and invites Kiryu to meet with him at the company's offices. However, when Kiryu does visit him, he is attacked by Oda and several of the company's thugs. After Kiryu beats him, Oda reveals that this had all been a test to see if Kiryu had the cunning to find out more about them and the strength to take them on in combat. Tachibana joins the pair and tells Kiryu that he is actually working with his foster father, Kazama. As it turns out, Kazama fears that Sohei Dojima is becoming too powerful and that the acquisition of the Empty Lot will make him too wealthy to stop. He wishes to prevent this from happening but must do so through a proxy in order to avoid being expelled from the Clan for betraying his boss, which is why he is acting through Tachibana's company. Finally understanding what Tachibana's intentions are, Kiryu decides to join his company and aid in stopping Dojima's acquisition of the Lot. However, Tachibana discloses that neither he nor Dojima knows the identity of the Empty Lot's owner. Chapter 3: A Gilded Cage In the Osaka district of Sotenbori, Goro Majima runs the Cabaret Grand as punishment for his role in the failed assassination of Yoshiharu Ueno three years prior. He is under orders from his boss, Futoshi Shimano, to deliver increasingly higher profits every month, lest he be returned to the torture dungeon where he spent a year after the failed hit. Supervising his punishment is Shimano's sworn brother from the Omi Alliance, Tsukasa Sagawa, who constantly belittles Majima and reminds him that he can have him returned to Shimano's dungeon any time he pleases. After dealing with an unruly patron who groped one of the club's hostesses and poaching the top-earning hostess from a rival club, Majima returns to his tiny slum apartment. While having a smoke and glancing over the city from his building' rooftop, he sees multiple people observing him from various buildings and streets around him: Sagawa's goons are always watching him. Chapter 4: Proof of Resolve After another day of managing the Grand, Sagawa calls Majima to a meeting at a noodle stand. There he makes Majima an offer: He can be immediately reinstated to his former position within the Shimano Family if he carries out a hit for them. The target is a pimp called Makoto Makimura, who has been supposedly operating in Sagawa's territory without paying him tribute. Despite his initial reservations about killing, Majima agrees and is given three days to carry out the murder. Majima begins trying to track down Makimura and immediately finds information that contradicts the story Sagawa told him. Apparently Makimura isn't the ruthless pimp Sagawa made him out to be, but rather a bodyguard of sorts for the city's sex workers. Majima eventually figures out that Makimura operates a massage clinic in southern Sotenbori and decides to break into the place to ambush him. After carrying out the break-in, however, he gets found by one of Makimura's assistants: A quiet blind girl who initially mistakes him for a thief. After convincing her that he's just a walk-in client, Majima stays for a massage session while he waits for Makimura to arrive. Eventually, Makimura shows to the clinic and, seeing Majima's yakuza tattoos, he immediately identifies him as an assassin. After Makimura convinces his unwitting assistant to fetch him some cigarettes while he works on their "client", Majima and Makimura get into a fight. However, they are interrupted by the sudden arrival of more yakuza. These new assassins reveal something to Majima: The man he thought was Makoto Makimura was actually a Chinese gangster named Wen Hai Lee and the real Makoto Makimura was the blind assistant. When the real Makimura returns from the store, the hitmen kidnap her and shoot Lee. Majima pursues them and eventually rescues Makimura, taking her to one of his hiding spots. Though he briefly contemplates killing her, he finds that he can't bring himself to do it.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (龍が如く7光と闇の行方) is a role-playing video game (RPG) developed and published by Sega. The first mainline title in the Yakuza franchise developed as a turn-based RPG, it was released in Japan and Asia for PlayStation 4 on January 16, 2020. Like a Dragon was released in several countries outside of the Asian region on November 10, 2020, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. A version with the subtitle International[b] was released in Japan, East and Southeast Asia on February 25, 2021, for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows, and on March 2, 2021, for the PlayStation In contrast to previous Yakuza games that focused on the life of Kazuma Kiryu, a man trying to lead a normal life following his retirement from the Tojo Clan, this game instead introduces a new protagonist named Ichiban Kasuga. After being imprisoned for 18 years only to then be betrayed by his former boss, Ichiban goes on a personal quest to become a hero and uncover the reason for his betrayal alongside other playable characters. The game offers bilingual (Japanese and English) audio to the player. Like a Dragon received positive reviews from both players and critics who enjoyed the narrative, characters, gameplay, unique take on the JRPG sub-genre, and presentation. Similar to previous games in the Yakuza series, side-quests (known as sub-stories in-game) can be taken up by the player to gain additional rewards and players are also able to enjoy the various side activities around the map such as karaoke. A new side-activity introduced in this game is Dragon Kart, which is similar to other kart racing games in terms of its gameplay. A major departure from previous Yakuza games is the battle system. Instead of the real-time beat 'em up mechanics of previous games, Yakuza: Like a Dragon features a real-time turn-based RPG (which was the result of an April Fools joke back in 2019 that was so well received that they retooled the combat from its former real-time beat 'em up mechanics)[1] type combat, with a four-person battle team. However, unlike typical turn-based RPGs, characters may use nearby surrounding items such as bicycles to attack enemies (if the items are near the enemies) or may kick surrounding items to their target if there is an interactive item in the environment on the way to the enemy, an aspect that returns from the previous Yakuza games. Players can also call on various party assists to strengthen the party or defeat enemies, with more assists added as the story progresses or through the completion of sub-stories. Players can still continue exploring the world after completing the game. A new game plus mode with additional difficulty settings exclusive to this mode was released as paid downloadable content for the Japanese version of the game,[2] but it comes as a standard feature in the Western release. Complementing the new RPG type combat system are Jobs, a form of character classes similar to other RPGs. Players can change any party member's job to better fit the party's playstyle. Currently, there are two jobs that can only be obtained via paid downloadable content.[3][4]

Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin! (Japanese: 龍が如く 維新!, lit. "Like a Dragon: Restoration!") is a spin-off game in the Ryū ga Gotoku video game series, known in English localization as Yakuza. It was produced by Sega and released the for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, serving as a Japanese launch title for the latter platform. Set in the chaotic Bakumatsu period between 1853 and 1867, Sakamoto Ryōma is distressed resulting from conflicting pressures and uncertainty about one's self and role in the society. Being embroiled in the middle of a Tosa coup d'état and bent on finding the murderer who assassinated his mentor, Ryoma burrows himself with a hidden identity in the streets of Kyoto and joins the grim Shinsengumi. Despite being the second Ryū ga Gotoku series spin-off set in the samurai era instead of modern-day Japan, this game is unrelated to Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan!, which was released in 2008 on the PlayStation 3. Kenzan! is set two centuries before Ishin!, hence the plots are not related with each other. Each game focuses on a different character, the historical figures of Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) and Sakamoto Ryōma (1836-1867) respectively. In 1866, after finishing sword training in Edo, Sakamoto Ryōma returns to his hometown in Tosa. After a scuffle with the Jōshi - the highest ranked of Japan's samurai - Ryōma is imprisoned and set to be executed, but is saved at the last moment by Yoshida Tōyō; Ryōma's father figure and a government minister who seeks to end the rigid social class system in Tosa. Tōyō requests that Ryōma see his best friend Takechi Hanpeita, who has founded the Tosa Loyalist Party and also seeks to end the rigid social class system. Ryōma allies with Takechi, and the two formulate a plan: Takechi's forces will surround Kōchi Castle, while Tōyō will be inside negotiating with the ministers. As they are discussing the plan with Tōyō, an unknown assailant surprises the three. Using a style that Ryōma does not recognise, the assailant mortally wounds Tōyō, grievously wounds Takechi and easily bests Ryōma. Takechi survives, but Ryōma is forced to flee the pursuing security forces by jumping into the river. One year later, Ryōma is in Kyoto, going by the alias Saitō Hajime. He discovers that the assailant who killed Tōyō was using a style called Tennen Rishin, which aims to be close to genuine fighting rather than sticking to any one style. It was practiced at the Shieikan dojo in Edo before it closed down, and its practitioners are now in Kyoto. After a run-in with the Shinsengumi, Ryōma meets an informant going by the alias Niibori Matsusuke, who reveals that all the practitioners of Tennen Rishin are in the Shinsengumi. Ryōma decides to join the Shinsengumi in order to get closer to the assailant.
