One of the most magical places I've ever been. Mt. Rishiri is a majestic spire rising from the sea, and being so high up north Hokkaido, it accumulates large quantities of ice and snow despite its modest altitude. Home to some of the hardest winter alpine routes in all of Japan, I went by myself this March to do the only one that can be soloed - the ridge that connects the North Summit with the South Summit.
It's a simple video, but I hope that it lets you feel why Mt. Rishiri has become one of my favourite mountains ever.
