Facts. I get on the bus and pay, the bus driver looks shocked on Staten Island. No one pays anymore so the bus drivers don’t care about stopping when they need to stop. They just skip the stop, show up 15 minutes early, ir don’t show up at all. It’s all on their whim now. And people who are paying get punished.

Once you give them something for free and they get used to it even if they could afford to pay they will not because they feel entitled , It's bad enough that the MTA loses literally hundreds and millions of dollars a year because of fair evasion , we shouldn't be encouraging them by giving it for free , They actually need a very aggressive fair evasion task force to go after the criminals

It did not cost $15 million dollars to provide free bus service on those 5 bus lines. The MTA is too greedy that's probably why the funding was taken away. Anyway, it doesn't matter because people aren't going to pay on those bus lines when the program ends just like they didn't pay before the program started.

I have nothing good to say about the free bus program, it was a bunch of BS look how many bus routes we have across the 5 boroughs probably more than 100 bus routes they could have made a couple or some bus routes free on for each borough they could have added more free buses instead of one for each borough I bet 90 percent of the people didn’t have access to the free bus program or some people I didn’t even know about it, I swear they are just lazy, they care about the people in the city it could have been way better

Yea but they be giving out tickets. At the time I wasn’t working had a open hra case had my son with me was getting on the bus in Staten Island and didn’t pay because i didn’t have the money to pay and the lady gave me a 100 dollar ticket. I had to have a hearing in Brooklyn I gave the man who was doing my hearing the school the school letter that my school wrote the man still said I half to pay the ticket it’s just sad some people don’t care people are struggling out here than have the nerve to make them pay a 100 dollar ticket I feel like the people that are not working and on hra hra should give them free metro cards

No, it was a pilot program started in around October of 2023 that chose 5 bus lines based on various factors, one bus line in each borough to be free of charge, for a minimum of six months. Bx18A/B (Bronx), B60 (Brooklyn), M116(Manhattan), Q4(Queens), and S46/96 (Staten Island). Because no new money was allocated in the New York state budget to keep the lines free or even expand the program, it will be scrapped in the near future.
