Seen here is a train of R44s operating on the A to Lefferts Blvd arriving and departing from 14th Street Station.

Coincidence, I was meeting up with a friend at the station. The whole R44 leaving the A thing to me, thats the "Gotta see it to believe it" type status in my view.

those are some fucking big MTA logos
@davidng23363 жыл бұрын
Last car is now part of the Transit Museum. Those bigass logos got replaced with the smaller ones that's now present on the sides. It's still sad that they didn't do as well as the R46, but it's understandable that the materials used weren't that great.

I think I actually went on a R44 when I was a kid because I remember the huge MTA logo as well as the unique white stripe

Some r44s have big ass logos because in their production they didn’t have the circled bolted logos, so they just patched logos on it as you see on 5240

Did all R44's usually make that whining sound? Or was it just this one?
@Caitsith8102 жыл бұрын
A lot of them did(I think all of them did honestly). A lot of the St. Louis Car Company built cars did this. The R40 fleet were also notorious for that sound, and some of the R42s as well.
@CyanTheStrategist2 жыл бұрын
@@Caitsith810 R42s didn’t really make that sound
@Caitsith8102 жыл бұрын
Yes they did. 4840-4949 used to do those sounds before they were retired, along with the 4500s and 4600s. The ones that survived the mass retirement, didn't.

Number series, the band that's on the sides of the cars, the airbrake, the motors, the bigger logos on the sides of the cars.

I just realized that when the doors open and close they make that whining sound. Just shows how badly they needed to go.
@Caitsith810 Жыл бұрын
It's not the doors making that sound, its the motors. The R38s, R40s and some of the overhaul R42s made that sound too.

Why can’t the R44 still run on the A line I mean the R46 is still running on the A line today so why can’t the R44 I mean the R44 and R46 are twin brothers
@Caitsith8104 жыл бұрын
They're not the same. R44s had carbon steel frames that rotted and rusted much more progressively, causing issues with the body and the structural integrity of the cars. They all had to be retired all at once.

I like the R44 because they had the same sound like the R68A. R46 has that deep low Sound. It so bad and makes the R46 suck. They were really bad on the R but now they are cool running on the N/W lines
