I wish TO’s made 175k a year. We make about 60k starting, and move to about 90k over 4 good performing loyal years, and I know operators in their 40s and 50s making 110, and it kinda maxes out there, but this is with overtime, which is common with the amount of driver shortage. You could also work in real estate and invest on the side, and make a very very amazing pool of income, so you live comfortably. I only been on the job for 4 years, and I already have a house paid off, and 3 cars. (2 household incomes lol)

How was the TOD (Train Operator Display) screen made? What app did they use on Windows or any operating system? Can I make my own? (Not the physical devices, the software) How did they model the speedometer and add elements?

Why in the video it does feel like the train car lifts up and down upon arriving & departing the stations? Are the train cars equipped with some kind of hydraulic or air pistons to make it easier for wheel chairs to get on & off the train? Is this an accessibility feature that I didn't know of?

great video, just a question, how come the train is in ATPM where the operating is "driving" the train instead of the train going by itself by ATO. Also, what does that red mean at 7:25 (thats 2 questions actually xD)
@mta_productions
@mta_productions Жыл бұрын
i think cuz only some R188s have ATO readers and thats the one that can drive by itself. When a R188 has a camera in the front or the back, thats a ATO reader. I might be wrong so correct me if i am. That red thing at 7:25, idk what that is ive never seen that.
@zycklacon9588
@zycklacon9588 Жыл бұрын
@@mta_productions thanks for responding yo, I heard it ATPM Is activated because when the train "starts", it does a test and sees if ATO is ready, if it fails ATPM is required for the Train Operator to use the train. Fun fact atleast lol

It seems like it can detect when the operator is not sitting or doesn't have the seat propped up properly for them to stand while operating. My best assumption is if the the seat isn't positioned to sit or stand up the train will be stuck in it's position.
@edot_nyc
@edot_nyc Жыл бұрын
To answer your first question it is because ATO was unavailable. Drivers on the IRT Flushing Line have an option to either drive in automatic mode (ATO) or Manually (ATPM). However, this only applies when the line is in normal condition. If need be, ATO can and will be temporarily disabled, forcing all drivers to drive manually for the time being.

I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT ! The flashing red bar means that the Train operators foot is NOT touching the Dead man's switch or the Train Pedal that the trains have as a safety measure, when the T/O Stood up his foot got off the pedal and then it started flashing so its pretty much a caution because after 20 Seconds without the foot touching the pedal, The train goes into Emergency

I thought if a line had CBTC the operator just needs to click a button every few seconds and the train automatically drives itself, why is the operator using the driving handle to move it forward and stop?

I was just looking this up and searching up vids, the red flashing bar is just the acknowledge, nothing is wrong with the train. The operator needs to hit a lever that way the train knows he’s alive and still driving - if he doesn’t hit it, the train will go into emergency brake

Moving it is easy. Stopping it is the hard part. You have to stop exactly at the marker to ensure that all cars are on the platform before the conductor can open the doors. That stop has to be smooth. On a typical day, the train operator may make over 100 stops a day. They have to be perfect. And oh...by the way....the newer trains skid on wet rails in the rain. Another challenge.

@@Chw4 Still, he don’t have to worry about cars cutting him off, chaining up in the winter time, driving down a steep grade hoping your brakes don’t get hot, being in a nice worm environment, I’d trade jobs with him any day of the week.
