same here omg. it gives a backstage look which i love because then you can see how the real actors are like backstage and not just their character

Bear in mind, that those vlogs only show a very tiny and deliberately positive view of things. Not neccessarily the reality.

I'm glad Paul talked about the backstage crew. While actors do have the most difficult job, they're only 10% of what goes into a show.
@rosiecurwen27796 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that the actors have the most difficult job, likewise I wouldn't say that the crew have the most difficult job. ALL jobs in the theatre are equally difficult. Maybe the actors have the most TIRING job, but in terms of difficulty, it's at the same level as the crew, potentially even easier than the crew.
@mikeyjamieson47156 жыл бұрын
+Rosie Curwen I agree. I was in no way trying to discredit anyone involved in a musical. It's just from my point of view the actors are performing in front of hundreds every night which is way more that what I could do.
@breannapeel27676 жыл бұрын
As an actor I can say WE HAVE THE EASIEST JOB! Techies are truly the most resilient people I give them all the credit to keep the show going.
@tananario3 жыл бұрын
Since people don’t come to see the second sound tech, let’s not, k?
@aidanlam53366 жыл бұрын
Having done some work in stage management, it’s just the loveliest that Jodie is so empathetic and grateful for the work of the tech crew. It can be extremely intense backstage because we try our absolute best to make the actors shine (even though we aren’t seen) and sadly actors often don’t realise the constant checking, double checking and damage control that goes on to make sure they have a seemless show every night. As for the calling DSM, they are definitely the heroes of the show and it’s such a shame the audience has no clue about the amazing work they do!!
@darkangelw84723 жыл бұрын
I think it was for the Addams family musical your, there's was an interview with the DSM, and you got to see a bit how she worked. Watching these vlogs and Carrie's vlogs during the pandemic, it makes me very emotional. Pleas, how do you get a job back stage, please?
@tananario3 жыл бұрын
That’s not accurate. It’s more that actors and tech are basically two different departments and we don’t interact all that much because we have very different jobs and we work on a precise schedule. As actors we spend the vast majority of our time with other actors, and techs work with other techs. I don’t see ASMs or SMs hanging out with our dressers, etc. For the most part our contact with other departments is limited to whatever needs to be done. Especially when it comes to professional shows. That said, actors DEPEND on stage management & in professional productions we take very good care of our stage management if they are doing a good job. A bad SM is a shitshow & I’ve gone through that too. We KNOW what it takes backstage to get us on, keep us lit, and sounding halfway decent.

I love stuff like this. In GCSE drama we had to put on a 20 minute play with someone as the stage manager it was hard work it took us about 4 lessons to learn everything we needed to know as well helping the stage manger and I fill like if I don't become a musical theatre actress I would love to work in props and doing that play in drama helped me with that
@goodjobeli6 жыл бұрын
I hope I get to do that as apart of GCSE drama that would be just fun but we only have lights and no mics

JODIE ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE JOB AND NEEVES OF CREW! I ran my first show as stage manager last week and controlled the curtains which controlled the show, and to an actor or audience member you may not think it as being ahrd except the curtains at my school are manual and the curtains cue the lights and music as well as actors. I’m currently so annoyed I didn’t know about this last year but I aim to work in theatre as soon as i can. ALSO: crew panic that they will let the whole show done!

i love learning about all the backstage stuff that goes on. thus far i've only really done community theatre where i acted and helped do stuff backstage on a smaller scale, but i love backstage work and i love learning about all the tricks for shows.

Tbh I was quite surprised a Theatre appreciation group didn't already know this stuff!!! Also, for those wanting to go into the backstage side.....I did a stage management degree at drama school in the 90s.......& of the 25ish people in my year, less than a quarter are actually working in the theatre!!!!!!!! Good luck for those who do, but, thats the reality.
