Great review! 👍🏼 Between the DSX FS and Four Corners 1 - which will be the better choice for a weekend bikepacking trip?

You're very welcome! The best recommendation really depends on the distance you'll be riding, the terrain, and how much gear you're planning to carry. If you're going light and want a more aggressive ride, the DSX FS is a good option. However, overall, I think the Four Corners, being a touring bike, is better suited for bikepacking trips. I hope this helps!

@@CYCLESHOPeirin Thank You for your valuable guidance. I will be riding mostly paved roads (70%) and some unpaved gravel (30%) with light to medium gear. But comfort is more important. I am more inclined towards the Four Corners 1 and it is within my budget as well, but my doubt is, will it be as comfortable for long journeys without its front suspension?

Thank you for your prompt reply. If most of the riding is on paved roads, I don’t think front suspension holds much appeal. Both the DSX and Four Corners come equipped with wide tires, which should provide sufficient cushioning. Furthermore, having front suspension may increase weight and reduce propulsion, which I see as disadvantages. For long-distance rides, I find the ability to reduce strain on the body by changing the riding position with drop bars to be more appealing. In my interpretation, the front suspension on the DSX FS is designed more for control on off-road terrain, rather than for long-distance comfort. Additionally, considering the overall performance of the DSX, it seems to be a bike that excels at off-road riding rather than being intended for long-distance journeys. This is another reason why I would recommend the Four Corners. However, these are just my personal opinions, so there may be individual differences that could make this response less accurate. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

@@CYCLESHOPeirin Thank You so much for your patience and kindness. I am a newbie and find the task of choosing a bicycle very daunting. I will only bother You with one last question. My height is 160 cms with an inseam of 71 cms - I am in between sizes XS and S for the Four Corners 1 as per the Marin website. The test ride or bike fit option is not available where I live. I will have to order a particular size. Can You suggest which size will be better for me?

Choosing the right size is really difficult. First, the XS size of the Four Corners is not available domestically in Japan, which makes the decision even harder. Based on the geometry from Marin's official website, as you mentioned, both sizes could be considered appropriate. In most cases, there isn't a perfect fit in the stock form. Besides your body size, flexibility also affects how you perceive the size difference. As you become more accustomed to riding, your body becomes more flexible, and your technique improves, so you might adapt to a larger size over time. On the other hand, a smaller size might be easier to handle at first. That being said, personally, I would recommend the XS size. The reasons are: The Four Corners has a slightly shorter stem, so you can extend it later as a customization option. If you're planning to ride off-road, a smaller size has the advantage of better bike control. If you choose a larger size and find it unsuitable, you’ll have to endure an uncomfortable ride for a long time. But if you choose a smaller size and it doesn’t work out, it’s easier to adjust with customizations. However... if you're confident in your skills, the S size would be perfectly fine! 💦 Since I'm not sure which size you should choose, my advice is based on the idea that the smaller size carries less risk if things don’t work out.
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the size S of MARIN DSX FS is not available (not distributed) in Japan. It is not in stock at the store or manufacturer, also. We have to say, we couldn't help you. Thank you.

@@CYCLESHOPeirin thank you for the reply, thats a shame no S size on marin bikes that I'm looking at, small people problems :D.
Thank you for your inquiry. MARIN DSX-FS is already sold out in stores, but the Japanese distributor says there are some left. It is possible to order from any MARIN BIKES JAPAN contract store. Thank you for your consideration.
