Colorado Springs has the best mountain biking trails on the Front Range of Colorado. With more than 216 trails covering hundreds (maybe thousands) of miles, at altitude, you have near-limitless options to ride dirt year round.
BABs, Amy and Rachel decided to film one of the more frequently used routes - Red Rocks on the East Side and Captain Jacks with a little Gold Camp climbing in between.
Red Rocks Open Space is a 1,474 acre city park that surprisingly used to be a city dump. It has Moab like white and red rock and lots of gravel and clay dirt too. In this video, we started with the less technical Codell Ridge Trail, Hogback and Lion Trails, then ended on the more technical White Acres, the Section that Only Eats Roadies, Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus the opposite direction) and Lower Codell.
We took Gold Camp Road to High Drive cut off at the parking lot at top of Gold Camp to Lower Captain Jacks. Obviously from the video you can tell how popular it is with cyclists, hikers and motos. This world famous downhill is a mix of intermediate and technical, and without moisture, becomes a skating rink of deep kitty litter.
As you can see, even November in Colorado Springs can be a stellar time to ride. Overall this ride took us 1:45 hours with breaks and was about 19 miles with 2,050 feet of climbing.
