Great vid. That last campsite descent "Elle Bank" is my favourite; only tried to ride up it once though, took the low line around after that!

It's a good one. Not an easy climb for sure 😂

Great video and nicely put together. Also great to see the consideration and courtesy to walkers even if it you had to do a few line diversions. It seemed to go from summer to autumn during your ride but I suppose the consolation is that the crowds disappear too...I suppose MTB'ers are destined to ride in bad weather.

Thanks mate, yeah always good to be polite to others. Everyone is just out to enjoy the outdoors. As per weather, that's just how it is in northern England ha. Always changable

This looks pretty tricky terrain ! Plenty to catch you out

Certainly was mate. Not least the sheer number of walkers on Jacob's and near Hollins Cross. Other areaswere really quiet though.

Can't go wrong with this ride it's always great, for the most fun though I would take a day off work to avoid a lot of walker.

Nice vid. Did the same loop not so long ago. How do find the spark handles trail riding ? Did the loop on an "all mountain" bike and it was way too much bike for the terrain. I have a vid of the ride just not edited and a bit shaky as harness was not tight enough

The Spark is a very capable bike. 120mm travel. Before I had this bike I was on a 100mm travel bike. This feels like it has loads of travel in comparison. I sometimes think it would be nice to have a touch more travel but I also want to be able to climb efficiently
@mtbanytime84904 жыл бұрын
@@Lakedistrictrider I only ask as I don't see many people riding xc bikes on good trails. I prefer to be able to ride everything up or down. Just bought an xc bike for the 1st time in 6 years and man they have changed. For me a real do it all bike now.
@Lakedistrictrider4 жыл бұрын
A lot of it is fashion I think. Enduro and long travel and long geometry bikes are marketed a lot in recent years and have become very popular. Trail bikes and other smaller travel bikes have also been developing a lot over the years and are more capable than in the past. When I got the Spark it was getting really good reviews as a good short-travel trail bike. It doesn't climb as well as my previous bike but does climb well enough for me. I'm not racing anymore 😀

I think a modern trail or xc bike will be capable on most of the trails in the UK. Anything up to double black, beyond that it's DH country.

Such a great route. You tried it the other way round? Personally I prefer that way. Climbing Jacob's isn't a deal of fun. 😫
@Lakedistrictrider4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have done it the other way round too - but a long time ago. More than 15 years back.

Yeah it was a few weekends ago. It was rammed. Haha. The Lakes is mental this year. Think because not many risking going abroad this year.

What would you rate the difficulty of Jacobs ladder, red or black?
@Lakedistrictrider4 жыл бұрын
Prob borderline red/black. The size of it, and the hole I nearly crashed into makes me lean towards black but mostly it is top level red I think.

Why don't you have a bell on your bike? And curious why don't you wear any protection on such rocky terrain? You guys are certainly fit. Very polite to the walkers, maybe too much. They are never in too much of a hurry to share the pathway. And they are the ones who moan, go figure? Love your videos, thanks for the great views and information.
@Lakedistrictrider4 жыл бұрын
Have you seen how busy my bars are? 😀 I don't have enough thumbs for a bell. I started riding in the early 90s and kneepads and stuff like that just didn't exist, so that's what I got used to. Saying that, suspension didn't exist either and I definitely benefit from that now so maybe I should look at kneepads some time. I just don't want anything clunky to get in the way of pedalling. I do always wear a helmet though. Always good to smile and be polite. Vast majority of walkers I meet when on the bike are friendly. Glad you like the videos, cheers 👍
