Thanks for the video. As others say below, "been there done that", (as far as the ribs go,- on a ride)... I hope that by the time you read this all will be healed up or, at least that all heals well soon!

the one thing I really like about your vids buddy is you keep it real and wear your heart on your sleeve. I have done a couple of rides I have found off KZbin and they do tend to hide the uphill's and having seen other vids of Skiddaw none have shown the walkie down hill bits. wishing you a speedy recovery I know ribs are painful and you will be back on the bike before you know it

I know your pain I broke 2 ribs n fractured a 3rd mid ride a rock bounced up when I was doing a downhill smashed me in the ribs. The adrenaline rush got me down it before I really felt how bad it was. Wish you a speedy recovery so you can get back out on the trails.

How does this route reconcile with your views on riding on footpaths?
@markb868
@markb868 2 жыл бұрын
@@BOTG_Adventures by my reckoning you were riding down long side edge and across ullock pike? Pretty sure there are no bridleways there. The only bike 'legal' route up skiddaw is the out and back that starts near applethwaite. Happy to see an OS map that proves it was all good!
@madmountainman5197

The whole footpath thing is a sketchy topic and usually inflammatory. Legally - and the last I heard though happy to be corrected if it's changed - there's no actual law against riding on a public footpath in the countryside. The only written law is that you're not allowed to cycle on the pavement, which applies in towns and cities, but does not cover the countryside, so remains a very grey area. That said, in high volume foot traffic areas such as the National Parks, it's best to avoid the issue. I do ride the occasional FP to make a cross country circuit on my local trails, but I give way and am friendly and polite to all the walkers, which works 99% of the time for most folks, excepting some members of the walking nazi's that want sole access to themselves on the whole of the public access network we have in this country. It's their meddling interference that's led to most BOAT's RUPP's and Byways in this country being downgraded to Restricted Byways, which has led to many of those very trails becoming overgrown and unusable as they don't get used by walkers due to a lack of footpath network linking them up. Rant over.🤔🤐😁

That was a mint vid. That moment after the crash should win some sort of film award tho, just the noise of the wind and your breathing really captured what it was like to be alone in a s**t situation in the middle of nowhere

Thanks for sharing! As commented in your short version, been there done that (well 5 ribs and the clavicle). Was in a group which was a blessing on a big adventure. Self rescue, which I’ve done twice with single bust ribs, is traumatic. You had all you could with you and sometimes lots of us, including me, ride solo. I’m interested in your views on the following device for adventures away from easy rescue and without phone signal (or bust/wet phone). A mate of mine carries a simple little satellite emergency beacon which knows your location that works anywhere except in a dense Forrest - about £100. It has one function, a button to set it off in an emergency. It’s sends an automatic 999 via satellite to an international control centre which works out what’s best for you on the basis of your location alone. No other message is sent, nor can it be sent and you can’t change your mind once the button is pressed. In your case, the Mountain Rescue would have come. I’ve just done a bit of research and Garmin has a small satellite device that tracks your location continuously and can integrate with an app on your phone which has the same emergency function of that other device. But you can also send a short pre-programmed text to a phone number of your choice. It sends the message by satellite and so works when there is zero cell signal. It automatically sends your location (which can see on your phone app too). It’s advantage is that you can say briefly what the problem is in a short text and add, perhaps, that you may move to a place of safety from where a second text could be sent to your choice of recipient, all without cell signal. It starts at just under £300 and needs an annual contract. Let us know what you think about these two devices (easy enough to find them on Google). Lastly, a fantastic video again. The new standard is being maintained despite all the trauma 😊
