Revell 1/8 Harley Davidson L.A. street chopper
About the kit
This kit was originally released in 1981 but will be re-released in 2022.
I bought it as a personal import after being told by an overseas follower.
This kit is an exquisite kit that skillfully mixes deformed parts and scale model parts.
I think this is a result of design power.
The knucklehead plastic model is precious, so I would like to take my time to complete it.
*Engine, carburetor
The engine in the kit is a simplified knucklehead, so I collected photos of the actual knucklehead engine and added details as much as possible.
I lost my circuit breaker and probably threw it away (I don't know if the parts in the kit are runners or parts) so I made a magneto out of plastic squares.
I didn't know the details of a carburetor like this twin carburetor, so I added details by referring to a picture of a similar carburetor.
*Fuel tank
changed to streamlined.
I think it should have been made smaller.
*Springer
It's long. When assembled with this long springer, it will probably bend or fold naturally.
Since the spring is not a another parts, I made the spring with 1mm nickel silver wire.
The length of the fork is too longer, so I shortened it by about 5mm and shortened the length of the fork by 55mm.
In terms of scale, it has been shortened by 44 cm.
The bearing was also cut compactly.
*Wheel
I used a jig to replace the spokes with 0.5mm nickel wire and 0.6mm inner diameter brass pipe.
I don't think it's possible to replace the spokes more easily.
*Muffler
With a muffler that protrudes like a chimney, the engine is likely to be submerged when parked on the street in rainy weather.
In Japan, both the length and height are not covered by vehicle inspection, so I shortened this part at least.
*Impressions after completion
The number of parts is less than 100, but if you use familiar materials, you can get a certain degree of perfection.
I think the reason is that this kit is good.
I bought two of this kit, so next time I would like to make the bobber style Harley using this engine.
Thank you all of you!!
