Unless I'm mistaken, I believe you've missed the point of "tilting" or being "on tilt", that is, that the defining characteristic is that your duress prevents you from optimal play. It's not that you're frustrated and irritated, but rather that you're making mistakes as a result.
@SoulsNThings
@SoulsNThings 9 жыл бұрын
LukeSnyderMusic I agree on that. In poker, normally it happens when someone " rivers " you and you play badly as a result, not necessarily rage at the other guy.
@StrategicGamesEtc

LukeSnyderMusic Yeah, I sort of got the impression that they both ended up on tilt, but maybe that's just me.
@bazmonkee
@bazmonkee 9 жыл бұрын
+LukeSnyderMusic I thought the phrase came from pinball tables, where if you attempted to shake the entire machine to move the ball it would display "TILT", freeze the paddles, and you lose the game. I always thought of someone "tilting" as just getting pissed, frustrated, and as you described, basically giving up an honest effort for that game.
@bazmonkee
@bazmonkee 9 жыл бұрын
+Basil Lalli And I just decided to check myself. So it looks like being "on tilt" or "tilting" is indeed a poker reference... which in turn appears to be a pinball reference :-) Over-aggression to the point of detriment.

Professor, I -just as yourself - played magic in the early mid nineties and then quit the game alltogether and sold my cards (aargh!!!). A few days ago though i stumbled haphazardly onto one of your videos and i have been watching them every day since... You used the metaphor "like bottled time" in of your videos and that's exactly how i feel these last days! Long story short: i'm picking up magic again, one hundred percent!!! Thank you now for giving me back that desire and thank you in advance for all the great fun and nostalgia to come!

Tolarian Community College I have watched most of your videos and I will say this is now my one of my favourite videos of yours for several reasons. Firstly it is on MTG slang which took me a while to pick up when I started playing so having a video like this for new players is awesome. Secondly I love the style and feel of the video as you really captured that educational video tape appeal well. Lastly I really like the attention to detail and the comedic path you took with it, I absolutely love the fine print at the end of the credits, there is so much flavour there. I really love your channel and your one of my favourites and this video is an example to that, I hope we all get to see many more like this :)

theAtom Jargon would be terms used in the game, like "Forestwalk", "Flying", "Trample", ... and every player of MTG should know these terms because they are the core of the game. "Bear", "Swing", "Topdeck", ... is slang because it's something you pick up along the way and it's not used by every player of MTG. Jargon is something everyone in a specific group knows and slang is dependent on the region of the player. I'm from Europe and we use other words for some of the US slang words. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding of the two.

The beginning of this video's 80's VHS effects are freakin' hilarious! Actually, scratch that - this whole thing was hilarious. The PSA, the overreaction after the cut puts the sunglasses on his face, the 80's hair in the eyes, classic stuff!

When I get a job I'm gonna see if I can be a patron for this channel. Even before I played magic, I watched your videos. You offered a lot of insight into what could have been a confusing and abrasive metagame for me because I hadn't been playing the game for the 4-5 years that the other players had. I've never gone past a 1-3 at my local FNM standard or modern (Once a 2-2 in Modern because I got lucky with my matchups), but I'm hoping I can save money for a modern-relevant deck that I feel like I enjoy playing with. I refuse to play green for the sake of avoiding Goyf like the plague, but right now I'm working through a control deck and seeing what works against other relevant decks. I chose to make a comment like this here because I felt like this video was entertaining and informative. If you don't try to be goofy in your attempts to educate the masses, you lessen your chances of sticking. That's what I appreciate from you: you take yourself just as seriously as necessary.

Takes me back to those horrendous 90s informational VHS tapes played in school. Also nice touch with the MS Word Art thrown in here and there. 10/10 would watch again! These sort of videos makes me glad to be a patron.

This was AMAZING Prof. ! Please do more of these :D (if it's a tough production due to the awesomeness of the editing and the script, then I would personally love just some more slang explaining videoes with your regular down-to-earth look :) )

I hate to attempt a correction on a professor but the word slang in not what I understand magic language to be. I feel there is a much more accurate, yet very similar word to describe this communication. jar·gon ˈjärɡən/ noun noun: jargon; plural noun: jargons special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are difficult for others to understand. Thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!

Ayo this video was fucking hilarious! I love the cool glasses and expressions lmao! 80s style educational style messages are so damn funny for some reason. Tilting out is equivalent to raging/ragequitting. I've never been aound magic slang. Seems fun.

Holy Poop! Kids, this is almost exactly like the training videos I had to watch when I got a job at a computer game store at the mall (Babbage's) in 1990. Even with all the glitches in the video. This was a real thing. Amazing work.

What a spot on parody of those 90's introductional videos. Radical! I also loved the disclaimer at 7:49. A lot of jokes hidden in there. I wonder how many knew what the pre- and post-mending was about. (For one, Timmy and Johnny's friend Vorthos certainly did.) It appears the professor is not only educated on player slang, but MtG lore as well.
