Mtg Budget Deck Tech: $5 Mono-Red Sunburn in Rivals of Ixalan Standard!

This deck is the first of a few decks we're doing this week that are a little off-the-wall or weird. Just wanted to showcase some different stuff I've been brewing up, so don't hit me too hard down here lol. I'm not gonna pretend this is the best deck in standard, but it can steal some wins and I'd be more than happy to hear some suggestions for it (like, I know a lot of people would have rather gone the no creatures/sweltering suns route, but I've just been itching to give Repeating Barrage a try)

Strictly Better MtG Love the deck. Just a suggestion as maybe a sideboard piece unless you're interested in using blue in the main, Refuse//Cooperate is very good against Approach at 4 mana because they don't end up putting their life total out of reach. And Glorious End and Primal Amulet of course. I think Insult//Injury and Angrath's Marauders are pretty neat, but Marauders is hard to stick.

Straight from the Gatherer entry on Imminent Doom, just so you know I'm on the up-and-up: "The amount of damage Imminent Doom’s triggered ability deals is the number of counters it had on it as the ability triggered. For example, if you cast Shock and then respond to Imminent Doom’s triggered ability with a second Shock, both abilities cause Imminent Doom to deal 1 damage and Imminent Doom will end up with three doom counters on it."

So if one could double up on a 4 CMC card then we could jump right to 6 and not have to worry about the limited options in the 5 slot.

What about Wildfire Eternal? Having that would allow you to proc raid for Repeating Barrage, and still cast something if it wasn't blocked, or get 4 free damage if it was. It could possibly get you something like an inferno jet on turn 5 for free, as well as getting your Repeating Barrage back into you hand. I think a case could definitely be made for Wildfire Eternal, as it is also really cheap (25 cents on Card Kingdom). The problem with running it is that you might not get the value of a free card from your hand all the time cause you might just not have anything, but I still think that its a viable card that could be played in this deck, maybe with some minor tweaks.

Additional cards following playing this myself: -Lightning-Rig Crew. While it's most certainly not the thing you want to be playing on turn 3, I think it's a great sideboard card for the deck for when you need a blocker. 3 mana for a 0/5 with a tap damage ability, that can have its ability repeated by playing those Fanatics sitting in your hand? Awesome. -I'd put Hungry Flames into the deck over Chandra's Pyrohelix, or at least consider it. Sure, it's one mana more, is one less card to trigger Imminent Doom while it's on 2, and isn't as versatile, but it makes up for it by being significantly more powerful and efficient for that extra mana. Dealing 3 damage to a creature AND dealing 2 damage to your opponent (probably more, if you have an Archer in play or have Imminent Doom with 3 counters) is a pretty sweet deal for just one extra mana. -Insult // Injury would be just an awesome card to at least consider for the deck. While I don't believe it would double the damage of an Archer or Doom when it's played, it most certainly WOULD double it if you play it on turn 4 with a Shock in your hand and those cards on the field. Insult, Shock, 9 damage on turn 4? Pretty awesome, it seems like. And it has the bonus of having a 3-mana burn spell sitting in your graveyard for you to use later. At least, those are my thoughts.

Metzali, Tower of Triumph off Path of Mettle does better than that with no land sac so much more easily repeatable reach. Gives you the option of forcing the opponent to sac an attacker at random for an extra mana and a tap if your opponent is looking to out race your face option and holding it until the end of their turn/after declaring attackers isnt even suspicious. One of a very limited number of ways to deal with carnage Tyrant. This card can also ramp you on turn 3 and fix your mana all at the same time.

Vance's Blasting Cannons could be ok, the card is cheap moneywise and it would really give this deck some extra reach in the form of card advantage. With such cheap burn spells, its easy to flip and it protects you from flooding. Having a bolt in your landbase is pretty cool too

What about Burning Sun's Avatar- two bolts on a big dino? You can get a playset of foils for under ten bucks. Or Charging Monstrosaur, or Harsh Mentor or Bloodrage Brawler? These are a bunch of great red creatures that are cheap and underplayed. I would also love to see somebody mess around with Spark of Creativity. Vance's Blasting Cannons could be an upgrade for this deck.

What about adding primal amulet to the deck? i mean if you can use Imminent doom effectively you can play this for 4 mana deal 4 damage flip it super easily and cast inferno jet for 12 damage. not to mention shock now will cast for 4 damage etc etc also un-flipped still makes lighting strike into lightning bolt and more
