I don't know about a Standard Ban, but Alchemy the format that Arena pushes new players into and was supposed to be their flag ship format for Arena needs an overhaul. I have my regular account that I spend tons of money on, but every expansion release I make brand new F2P accounts as a challenge for myself and grind to mythic. Since many of the cards that are given to brand new players are only legal in Historic, Alchemy, and Timeless I usually wind up playing Alchemy since its easier with the card selection pool and the amount of Wildcards earned while playing and opening free packs/ packs bought with gold. I also tend to not just build mono-red as I find that no fun and my decks are largely based around whatever expansion was released since those are the ones you get for free. Currently there are 2 major problems that I come across in the Alchemy format. First is that there are only around 2 decks that are played which are the grixis heist decks and naya convoke decks. According to Untapped's tracking since April 2024 in the Bo1 Grixis is at 21% of the meta and Naya is at 11%. However in the Bo3 the Grixis deck jump to a whopping 40.4% of the decks played with Naya Convoke sitting at 18%. More than 50% of the meta are just 2 decks. The Grixis Heist decks bully out most Mid-range decks and many architypes making them literally unplayable. The second problem in Alchemy that also involves the Bo3 format is that the match making is busted. As a player on the grind while still in gold or plat ranked I am constantly matched against #200 mythic players rather than players in my own rank. Granted this has more to do with how little people play Bo3 Alchemy if I had to guess, but still feels bad when just trying to grind through plat to reach diamond I have to play and win against players in the top #200 on arena I've even had to play against #1-4 with my decks that are Free to play. Now I do win against them as I usually have over 60% WR on my accounts but it's not fun playing against the super sweat lords when I'm just trying to do a fun personal challenge. I know its not my MMR thats causing this to constantly happen since these are brand new accounts and don't have enough data to be considered the same as the Top #200 mythic players. TLDR: 58% of Alchemy Meta in Bo3 are just 2 decks and Bo3 Match making is broken as a low ranked would be matched against #200 Mythics as sacrifice to their Rankings and ELO.
