Been liking the mono white decks myself, wanted your thoughts on a couple cards. Metropolis reformer when playing lizards I got completely shut down by it. Monastery mentor as kinda like a white seed shark. Admittedly that’s better when you have cake and destroy evil instead of the creatutes though. Tulio was running a lot of white zenith earlier on too, sunfall just better?
@athenathebun21 күн бұрын
Local mono-white expert here! White Sun's is much better than Sunfall when you're in top deck mode late in the game. At 7+ mana it's "board wipe me or lose the game in 2-3 turns". It should supplement other sweepers and not be your main one though. Metropolis Reformer is a card I've been back and forth on since it's been printed. It was actually used in some UW sideboards when Analyst decks were popular in the format. I'll have to try it against Lizards though, that's some nice spice! The key difference is that Seedshark is brought in by control decks from the sideboard traditionally to punish people who board out too much removal, and you're using your counters to protect it in l against the spot removal they are keeping in. Mentor can't block on 3 against much and requires a lot of noncreature spells to support it
@ItsRandomKam20 күн бұрын
@@athenathebun yea reformer was pretty sick it was real difficult to get the 1 damage in to turn everything on and it was pretty hard to justify keeping cut down in in that match at the time. Feel the same about mentor just curious because of that card’s history, and I’ve just moved to 3 sunfall instead of 2 and 1 tulio had but I like your reasoning for including some.
@TheMTGRebellion20 күн бұрын
To clarify: White sun vs sunfall is purely meta-dependent and how hard you have to grind will dictate which one you want. I prefer pushing imodane's mainboard and keeping the 3rd sunfall so that I'm balanced across a multitude of matchups. Metropolis reformed is some serious spice, def gonna put one in my sideboard and mess with it. Mentor is powerful but extremely glass cannon, that said, perhaps worthwhile postboard in the mostly non-interactive matchups. - Riktus

For the last 2 years i almosr exclusevily played UW Control, however, after rotation I feel like the deck has some critical flaws 1. Blue brings almost nothing to the deck. No card draw besides Deduce and counters often rot in hand. Having to set up your Caretaker leaves the deck open on critical turns such as 3/4. Dimir can outcounter you many times and Lizards/Gruul are too quick 2. Severe lack of removal withouth March and Wandering Emperor. Last week the deck was running 4 elspeth smites, which already says a lot. 3. No sideboard advantage besides a more tailored set of counters 4. In exchange for all of this, you get a crawling manabase with 8 taplands and 3 conditional ones. That on top of the fountainports and the land destruction creates a lot of missed opportunities with no compensation. The monowhite list solves all of this and has become my go to deck of the season. 1. Lay down arms solves (almost) all your removal problems 2. Carrot Cake grants you as much card draw as Deduce, 2 1/1 tokens, 3 life and 2 Scry. 3. Great grinding capability with Virtue of Loyalty+Caretaker trigger 4. Nice curve with Sanguine and double trigger of caretaker+Eplosive turns with imodane 5. You can even counter with the bird 6. Much more consistent manabase with only 4 taplands
@TheMTGRebellion20 күн бұрын
Given that the format can get rather discard heavy as well, Azorius Control feels like a rough choice at present. It just lost too much in rotation and failed to secure the instant-speed interaction it needed to maintain parity. Control moved to a tap-out style to grind and I'm here for it. :) - Riktus

Trying out the t1 lizard deck... it seems to be really weak? Is there something I'm missing about it? It has no artifact or enchantment removal, is incredibly weak to removal in general - and only has sweeps that also hit itself...
@TheMTGRebellion20 күн бұрын
It might be a fundamental misunderstanding of how to sideboard, or how to sequence the deck? I just plowed through a super-grindy domain matchup where I had to play through 4x wrath's, 1x atraxa, 2x beza, 3x Frillback, 1x Temp lockdown. Took 15 minutes, but we pushed through it all. I think the deck has legs, but the margins are tight and playing 3 turns ahead is a necessity. If you haven't already, you may want to check out our "Coffee & Grinders" membership for $2.99 as well, I just put in a SB Guide for Rakdos Lizards this morning. Hope this helps!
