For the Golgari deck, it is important to maintain a big blocker in the air with the Archfiend. Much like the Slogurk build using a Vorinclex. I have played many hours with this build and it is a must have for this deck’s main board.
@TheMTGRebellion4 ай бұрын
We may disagree on that particular point, but I see where your logic stems from and can respect the line. - Riktus
@TheMaxDamage99994 ай бұрын
The fact you have to block flying means Dross doesn't hit for several turns correct? Doesn't that put you at risk of not finishing the job fast enough?
@SaltMinerChad4 ай бұрын
@@TheMaxDamage9999 there is one turn where he blocks and the rest of the turns he gets sideways and attacks. They cannot afford to take six every turn and start to throw them in the way. They inevitably use a kill spell on the Archfiend. It is quite hard for me to understand all of the ins and outs of why it works. But, when it is not in the deck, I lose more often than when it is in the deck. These are just my ideas as to why. Not hard truths.
@BBern6364 ай бұрын
@saltminerchad golgari is my most played standard deck. I played against the mirror today and they ran that 3 drop from OTJ that lets you look at your top 5 and put a land into the battlefield tapped whenever you commit a crime. Have you tried it yet? I was impressed by it in the games it was out and I’m thinking of finding a place for it in the deck.
@SaltMinerChad4 ай бұрын
@@BBern636 I like the Freestrider Lookout as well. But it competes with Lili, Sentinel, Preacher, and Trespasser for the slot. I think it is good if built around but otherwise would seem like one of the others will be better IMO.

always looking forward to your fun and precise analytics of the meta. Even started playing best of 3 thx to that after years of best of 1. Had a fun azorius flash list entering top 200 for a short while. I think flash could be an answer for the current meta maybe. Considering esper flash for pest control and ertai. Archfiend feels good against domain as long as you play it early. You've probably already hit them for a fair bit with Bronco by the time it lands so they'll often exile it with layline and reset it's counters. It's definitely not something you use as out later in the game (pitching it for Lily if need be), but it's a great closer against slower decks especially if they just spent their turn three and two removing your smaller dudes. It allows you to pivot towards beatdown when you know you can out pace their removal. It is rather good against Temur too since it gets over Ill-Timed Explosion really nicely, they either need to ditch the virtue or find enough recursion to keep their life up.

For the boros convoke deck, does anyone know what the extra mirrex in the SB is for? And how do u side it in?

There for the control matchup, comes in so you hit your 23rd land to raise the probability of ensuring a smooth first 3 land drops. - Riktus

Against control, I tend to look at which parts of my game plan they're trying to attack/interact with and adjust accordingly. I tend to lose all 4 cases as a starting spot. This is due to lack of targets and temporary lockdown issues. - Riktus

What cards should Esper midrange be playing to beat the aggro/control match ups we're seeing?
@TheMTGRebellion4 ай бұрын
That's a rather ambiguous question as there are multiple Aggro and multiple control archetypes currently, each with different cards that help hedge against them. Any particular matchup you want to know more about? - Riktus
@aeon-s4 ай бұрын
@@TheMTGRebellion The match-ups in particular would be UW Control + Boros Convoke. What kind of cards could I run mainboard that make those more in Espers favor? I'm already on 3 Pest control for Convoke sideboard and 2 duress for Control + the regular negate and disdainful stroke package
@TheMTGRebellion4 ай бұрын
UW control matchup requires tempo and disruption to win. They have inevitability. Your best draw is duress into bat into raffine, with counters ready by turn 4. So I would focus on those principles while evaluating what to push into the sideboard. Boros Convoke the Pest Control's help, but the matchup is one where they weirdly have inevitability as well due to Knight Errant of Eos. They'll push lithomantic post-board to keep raffine off the board. Aclazotz is strong here as your ideal hand plays a board-wipe into a sticky threat that can it run away with the game. Hope this helps!

Yea its rough out here for Domain but there's still time. Domain may not even have to be the deck that hates out Control. It may be able to pick up points by preying on such a deck once it succeeds in rooting out Control.

@@TheMTGRebellion I've been playing the spelunking version for a while and switched to the lifegain version. You have more card advantage with the ill-timed explosion, life gain buys you time. Analyze the pollen can grab Cavern of souls. You can burn through them with the lightning helix + archangels. Post side-board you have sharks that can generate token with small cost spells. There is just more interactions and I had more success.
