MTG Strixhaven Set Booster Box Opening! Surely worth a crack?

A great box opening as always mate, love to see theses older boxes still getting love as Strixhaven was one of my all time favs. with the couple questions you asked, I use to play a lot of commander but it just started costing too much for me to keep up and the reason why I watch theses videos is just to see some packs being cracked without having someone yelling at the top of their lungs.

Heck yeah, gotta pay respects to the older boxes. I'm always on the hunt for them, just a challenge to find them for a semi-decent price! Fair enough, commader can be pricey. My mates and I have been tossing up the idea of trying Pauper EDH as a more cost effective way to get games in. Nothing worse than having your ears perforated my some unexpected screeching. I'm a bit of a hypocrite, on the occasion I get a wee bit excited ;) Appreciate your support man!

You know a lot about the MTG intricacies, I've never actually played a tabletop game, I just like the artwork, the chase of the big hits and don't know about all the combos of all these new cards as I only played Shandalar on PC years ago and a bit of Arena. I have collected a shit tonne of cards though, and I pulled a elven sol ring the other day too :D Anyway love your channel and could watch openings for days. Cheers.

Such a fun set to open. I got a box last Christmas for $150 AU and managed to get some very nice STA cards from it.

this is such a gorgeous set, i’ve considered collecting it on several occasions. and if i could get it at this price i would definitely pick up a couple boxes here and there! 36 packs at that price is just unbeatable to answer your question in regards to play boosters. while i havent open too many of them i think they are kinda just a net negative unfortunately! as you mentioned they are just more expensive but they created a solution for a problem that didnt exist. having separate booster box types for different types of fans allowed a lot of choice but now everyones lumped together unless you wanna fork over $200+ for a collector box which is just a bizarre decision imo. i like the decrease in list cards but thats really the only thing it does better than its set and draft counterparts! (sorry for the novel 😅)

@@CardboardKiwi i just feel like the vast majority cards in the list tend to be completely worthless, useless, or unwanted. it feels like receiving an M&M in your bag of Skittles, its kinda neat i suppose but its not what i really wanted.

I play Standard/Alchemy on Arena cause I cannot spend too much money on paper Magic. Even though folks suggest buying singles over packs. I am reminded of the old days of opening packs and scoring a good rare and the excitement it brings.

Heck yeah, glad that arena is a more affordable option. Certainly have got my money's worth from it & I'd love to see a proper stats page for it. Cracking a pack is the most nostalgic thing aye, happy to be of service :-P

I've found that advice only applies in USA and Europe. I'm in Canada where prices are similar to NZ and Australia. Singles often cost more than sealed. Junk commons are $0.25 a pop before shipping and tax. And you have 0 chance at a rare when you buy one. Sealed is about $0.40 a card.

Had a few cracks at these at 110aud, had some success - I've seen Japanese STX set boxes for sub 100, and those japanese mystical archive cards go so hard

When CBK opens a box… I watch the vid! Also damn I wish I knew where you are finding these deals from. I’ve been looking to buy a strix box. *EDIT* I play commander. I started playing MTG again about 3 months ago. Last time I played was in 1998. I’m having a blast! I watch these videos because I’ve missed out on so many sets that it’s fun watching people open packs and see what rares and other cool things they can get. I can’t afford 200 dollar collector boxes, so it’s cool to watch others open them.

@@CardboardKiwi Yeah, the worst thing is that I sold a lot of my old cards LAST YEAR. I stopped playing in 98, but still picked up some packs after i stopped playing. Those packs I just threw in a shoe box instead of a binder. Well after 25 years I looked through it and found a NM Gaea's Cradle. I didnt know what a reserved list was either. I just saw the card and thought.. 'huh..that seems kinda OP'. Then I looked up the price and holy crap lol. Now I'm on the hunt to buy another one to replace it since my wife made me sell it lol.

I watch these pack openings mostly because I am new to magic, so sometimes the commentary on what is a good card etc. is helpful. Also seeing how much things are worth when I got to open my own stuff. Also when people do collector boosters, its always nice to see whether it is going to be worth it or not haha! My wife and I like to play commander mostly. We have done the Thunder Junction sealed prerelease, but didn't really like it that much (the format). Liked doing commander draft though, that was super fun! Gameology really has some good prices sometimes, and it makes my wallet hurt :( Love your vids!

@CardboardKiwi aww thanks for taking a look at my vids 😊 I like your vids because our dollar is closer 😆 I don't know whether it was the fact that we weren't familiar with the set itself and the mechanics, or the unforgiving nature of the 1v1 20 life. Or it could have been the people we were playing with - more competitive, but we are very casual. Also not very good at building decks, let alone on the spot (Commander is just better). 😊

I started with commander and still play a bunch of the format. Lately I've been branching into 60 card formats with Modern and Legacy being my favorites. Drafts and prereleases are super fun events for me too.

Feel like I should start filming my openings. Opened Dominaria United and Phyrexia AWBO set boosters. Pulled Mondrak and Sheoldred, Apocalypse. Plus some other odds and ends stuff. Traded in duplicate cards I had to buy those boxes. So definitely good pulls.

Drafting is wild with the new play boosters. Packs are pretty juiced compared to the old draft boosters so you end up facing piles of bombs. Fun, but really swingy.

Probably Gamesmen ebay store with discounts, every couple of months for the last 9 months there have been 20%/22% discounts on a few mtg retailers combined with the clearance prices that we have seen over the last 9 months.
