I appreciate that Jen said she intended to make a not-Spikey deck. As the team mentioned, some commanders just have a bad connotation, but that doesn't mean they can't be played in a friendlier way. I hope she continues to improve on that front without losing whatever it is she enjoys about playing Magic. In one of the early videos last season she said something akin to 'You guys wouldn't draw bad cards if you only play the best cards,' so I'm looking forward to her finding a happy median.

She looked like she was having fun. I like being the archenemy sometimes and watching the game revolve around shutting me down or dying. Usually I get shut down but it's fine, someone needs to apply pressure otherwise it stalls to basically only the combo decks winning in the late game. Winning is not always the point, playing broken nonsense and watching everyone cower in fear is pretty fun too. Besides if she didn't have 7 mana in rocks on turn 2 I think she would not have been targeted as heavily.

I don't mind really, I am not the image of normal but I think that people are jumping on the hate Jen bandwagon and I see it as a difference in style and the personal idea of a 'fun pod' is. I have more of a problem with the mana crypts and mana vaults and sol rings being in these since they all provide a distinct advantage early in the game. But that's how these guys like to do things and i don't see it being my business to demand they change that. I just watch and laugh at the politics and everyone bouncing off of eachother moreso than the actual game itself.

The funny thing about multiplayer commander decks is that their power isn't strictly a function of the power of the cards in the deck. The records of Richard and Jen show that starting attention with early powerful cards is less effective than than playing a deck full of surprisingly underrated cards that come in under the radar until they suddenly control the board.

Lol, I was gonna comment on how funny it is that Jen doesn't realize her decks are always spikey even when she isn't trying, but clearly many beat me to the punch. I'm a spike too a lot of the time, but I go back and forth between strong and decent decks and I'm not oblivious to when or why I'm the threat at the table. I'm not hating though, I have no problem with people running anything they want. It's the point of the game, they print cards so we can use them. Though I try to avoid running commanders that draw hate before the game even starts, Jin Gitaxis fits that bill pretty well lol.

The description on the site says that whoever the builder of Jin was planning on making a nicer version (I forgot who made it lol) but I looked at the deck list and it was a bounce deck. Bouncing is super frustrating, and with Jin it turns Boomerang into essentially a quasi vindicate! At least I love Rosheen and Rorix. Also a hellbent deck seems like a hilarious counter to Jin. Granted, Malf's ability gets shut down by Jin, but between Jin and Malf, I am worried about poor Rosheen for this matchup not having any X spells to play. At least a giant discard pile will be good for Draganimator.

I do not have a problem with Jen, or anyone, playing powerful decks. IMO, the underlying problem is that her EDH philosophy just doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the group. I love Jen, and I love her decks, but I'm just not sure she's a great fit for Commander Clash without a major change in her or everyone else's overall style (which isn't a fair thing to ask anyways).

I really wouldn't enjoy playing Commander with most of the people around here. Apparently there is only one proper way of playing Magic and when somebody doesn't fit the pattern he (or she in Jen's case) gets all the hatred. I enjoy watching CC because you can see so many different playstyles. Jen usually is the most aggresive player and often gets targeted for it, Richard tries to stay on the side and suddenly win with some craziness, Tomer & Seth make a ton of alliances all over the table and Tom likes to use logical arguments to make others target some other player. There's no one right way of playing Commander and that's what makes this show (and M:tG in general) so FUN! If you are annoyed by blunders, wacky combos and questionable strategies, then you should probably watch something else. tl;dr: Leave Jennifer the fuck alone.

My best friend plays a jin as commander so i can say something about it. Jens deck was explodive, yes - but we know how it ended (the deck of my best friend is way stronger). Rosheen is by far my favorite of the decks played, its so much fun.

MaxPower, quite frankly, you are correct. In an ideal world, there would be no obnoxious people habitually complaining of Jen's existence and therefore no reason for me to comment. However, there are, and if people are going to complain, I'll join the choir. However, the difference lies in the content. I like to watch Commander Clash and read people's decks, ideas, and conversations. However, I can't get to those without slogging through all the hateful comments about Jen. They simply don't have to watch Commander Clash. If they aren't enjoying it, they can not watch it. It's not a major distinction, but that's my reasoning. I just want people to enjoy and watch the show, not complain every week about misplays and Jen's plays.

People hate on Jen so much, but Tom’s hypocrisy and overall complaining drives me crazy. He complains when Tomer attacks him for “no reason” yet here attacks Seth, and makes snide comments about it. He doesn’t let people play their decks, as he tries to tell them what to do. Lastly overall he is just a rude and arrogant player. If people approached the game the way that Seth and Tomer do, and the way Richard tries to, I feel like it would be a much better environment.

I was mostly worried about being so far behind on lands. My deck has a lot of expensive x-spells, so drawing a ton of cards didn't seem all that helpful (as weird as that sounds) because I'd never be able to cast them. Part of the problem is that most of my ramp was green (like Cultivate and Kodama's Reach), which don't do that much when you have to pick up a land to play them, so I was sort of locked out of doing anything until that bounce enchantment got off the table.

Malooph from what I can tell people dislike that she almost always plays uber strong commanders and deck concepts for the relatively janky casual tone of the group. Richard actually consistently plays some of the most underpowered and Janky decks while keeping theme and still wins.

In light of what has been going on regarding Christine Sprankle, and people (women especially) getting harassed out of MTG altogether, can people PLEASE take some extra time to think about the impact of their comments. There are ways to have conversations here without making unnecessary unpleasant comments about Jen or any of the players. You are totally allowed to not personally enjoy the way she builds decks or plays. You are allowed to want her play less "Spiky" decks. But just be thoughtful about it, calm down and if you need to voice that opinion, do it in a respectful manner. Recognise that it is an opinion about the way someone plays a game, not a fact about someone being a bad person. Of note, in this video, Jen specifically mentions how she tried to build this deck to be less spiky than she has done in the past, and recognises that she can do more on that! This is obviously going to have come about as a result of comments on these videos, and the group will naturally be talking about it behind the scenes. It's also worth noting that Jen, as well as the rest of the group, has been INCREDIBLY gracious about all of this. Jen, to my knowledge, hasn't said much about it, and has always come across very positive about Commander Clash. Tomer and Seth have commented, I know, showing the calm polite respect missing from these comment sections a lot. I've not been the best about this myself, I've gotten frustrated by plays and reactions in these videos, and I know I need to get better too. What's currently happening in the MTG community needs to make us all recognise our attitudes and behaviour, and remind us that this is a game, for fun. There are so many ways to play, and so much content online that there is something for everyone. So let's just chill out. Part of what was going well for Jen was having such a strong start, and the fact is that by the nature of this set most of the commander options were incredibly powerful, and the others took the more "commander friendly" options. She had a lot of artifact ramp, and some would argue that she was playing more than necessary, but she's playing mono-blue. I would probably recommend not including Mana Breach in future decks, because nobody is going to be happy with having their lands bounced. Generally I find that people are not happy with mass land removal - only in the cases of utility lands have I seen people be understanding about having their lands removed in casual games. That's just my perspective, though. Hey, let's look at something positive - nobody's going to be able to complain about Jen's deck building choices next week XD

I don't know the Chritian Sprankle thing that my iPad misspelled horribly, so idk. I think she gets too much criticism about it (especially dumb criticism when she made a spooky deck and playing a sol ring was suddenly equivalent to Leovold) but I am just pissed that people call others sexist for LOOKING PAST their gender and assume detractors are being sexist BECAUSE OF HER GENDER. So the white knights are the only ones referencing gender. Meanwhile most just criticize her play style. I typically don't, though that Thalia thing was a disaster holy moly. Like, people say "You're just PRETENDING to not be sexist when you really ARE!" It's like, what can you do to not be sexist? How do they know that all of the detractors are men? Thanks for not assuming everyone who criticizes her is a sexist ass, but that's what's bothering me; the baseless white knights. It's fucking ridiculous that people say that people pretend not to be sexist when they secretly are, like, by heir definition, how the heck are you it supposed to be sexist if it's based on people assuming you're thoughts are sexist?

Christine could have sued Unsleevedmedia for being the pestering flea that he is and went on with her life. She wanted to monetize her cosplaying hobby through Magic when Magic can't even support pro players or LGS. It was a money sink for her and she's better off applying her talent on IPs that are actually productive for small creators.

Bullshit, Jon. Aside from the any of the other four Praetors and Avacyn she could still have picked Ob Nixilis, Kiki-Jiki, Teferi or any of the five Kamigawa dragons! So out of 14 commanders remaining to her she juuuust so happened to pick the most broken one. Look, it's fine if you personally have no issue with Jen playing the spikiest decks possible. Different strokes for different folks, right? But don't insult us by seriously trying to tell us that she does so accidentally or because she has no other choice.
