MTH Electric Trains 400E Blue Comet Steam Locomotive

Just watched the video and was very impressed with the train. I have just purchased the Railking version with Proto-2 and was wondering if you showed the Lionel version or a different MTH version?

800$ is not that bad honestly for a 400E. 800$ for the passenger set as 3 cars is a bit much, but if a 4 car set, then that is a better deal. Pretty much 16X the value of the original Blue Comet back in the 1930's. Which an original in mint, would probably be between 10-20K today, so... I guess it depends on income perspective at that point. I recently got into standard Gauge and well... eBay is your best bet to get into STD Gauge trains for now until a new run by someone comes around. They can depend in value the reproduction versions. Between 700-1000$ average for 400E's. Passenger cars of the higher end sets like the State/Comet are about 600-800$ reasonably. Saving big money to get one set like this can be worth it depending on how much you want one and how often you are going to run it. I would argue that modern Standard Gauge is overall cheaper than modern O-scale 3-rail. There is also the chouce of buying a "Build-A-Loco" motor for about 200, and custom making your own Tin-plate 0-4-0 model for Standard Gauge although, that would require an incredible amount of metal workmanship. Sad to see that are very expensive, but they are not as mass produced compared to O-gauge and HO. A conundrum of today and the way things are.

Just so you all know MTH lost the licensing to use Lionel’s name for these tinplates and they couldn’t work out another deal so until they hopefully work out a new deal those who were lucky enough to get these tinplate sets better make them last

You know, MTH makes some fine tinplate replicas, but they should try their hand at a line of reproduction lionel oo or maybe even scalecraft oo trains.
