I think when the episode was aired 8 years back, they had lack of proper knowledge about either it's a crime or not. It may also happen that the channel wanted to avoid any outrage so slightly supported "law". But one thing most important about this episode is all the casts had the guts to present a "illegal " love story 8 years ago. Kudos for their bravery and efforts.
