I'm so glad you liked the video Sherilynn! I always try to really capture the realities of being a makeup artist. The jobs aren't always easily and challenges happen. You are definitely not alone! As I mentioned, I'm sure this happens pretty often, but people don't ever like to talk about it.

Julie, first off sending well wishes to your mom. Also I love how you depotted the rare beauty blushes, definitely doing that! Thank you for being raw and transparent in this video. It’s super hard dealing with client sometimes who do not understand our policies. I used to collect payment day of, and had to constantly chase money and was underpaid. It was a learning experience and now I am super thorough when it comes to payment and request it 1 week beforehand.

Firstly!… I hope your mum is ok, bless her. Your honesty is amazing. We’re human and we deal with things differently, we’re allowed to be emotional especially when we depend on that income. I love how you handled the situation with the travel fee, the bridal party running late and how you stayed so calm through the entire thing. Aww you are so sweet Sophie! Thanks my mom is doing much better now :) I'm not going to lie, I seemed pretty calm during the video, but I was freaking out and cried when I got home haha!. I worked 8 years in retail and you weren't ever allowed to bring your personal shit to work so I'm pretty good at not showing it if need be. It did really get to me in the moment though! Haha I personally debated about not even filming or posting this video! I was SUPER upset and frazzled don't get me wrong, but I thought I would show what being a makeup artist is "actually" like sometimes. I also wanted to show this to other artists so they could see how I handled this situation as well in case something similar happens to them. It's not all sunshine and rainbows all the time, but I try to see the positive in all situations :)

It kills me when a bride says she loves her look after the trial is over, but come wedding day, she wants a completely different look- which then makes me spend even more time on her makeup & going over what she liked/didn't like from the trail, when this should of been discussed AT the trial or emailed to me when I sent the trial follow up email 😒😠

I'm so glad i'm not the only one. Thank you for clarifying. I had the same story. I had also forgotten to charge travel fee and have learned from that lesson. I now make sure to include the travel fee from when i first quote the bride. The Bride's lateness i also make sure to add that on to my contract, sometimes bridesmaids are late and that delays the alotted times. I'm glad you are putting it out there because some MUA's should know this so they learn from our mistakes.

It's always such a bummer when you forget to charge a fee and yes I should've charged my bride a late fee as well. There was A LOT on my mind that day haha! Every mistake that is made is a great learning experience though - you're right!

Hope your mom feels better soon, Julie! Praying for a speedy recovery ❤ and that wedding sounds pretty stressful, at least you get to have a bit of a break for a couple weeks! And I don’t think you’re being negative at all, you’re being real. It’s important that people understand it does affect things when they’re late or don’t bring up what they don’t like about the makeup! Definitely sucks about the travel fee, I probably wouldn’t have remembered either under those circumstances, especially since you were trying to make up for lost time. But I think you did what was best for your business at the end of the day. All it takes is one asshole to make a tik tok or something and have it spread like wildfire and ruin your business, which is absolutely scary. You’re doing great Julie and you’re so awesome and inspiring. plus I bet you’ll never forget the travel fee again! Sending hugs ❤

Hi Annika! Thank you so much! Yes, she is feeling so much better now :) Looking back on the whole situation I do think that I was pretty stressed and that’s why I forgot the travel fee- you’re right! It’s so hard to gauge which people will let things go and which ones will just ignore it. I usually play it safe because of this. Thank you for all of your kind words!!

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that! As I say, bridal previews are a 50/50 thing. The client goes 50% and you go the other 50%. Hopefully everything got resolved :)

Thank you so much Julie for sharing this information. I have had an awful few weeks at work where everything I seem to bring up to others as a concern seems to be portrayed in such a negative light. I am so sorry for your experience, but one thing I can say that it is reassuring that people are going to try and take advantage or find fault wherever they can. And being individuals that care about others and seeing them happy, such as you as a makeup artist and me as a teacher, we become more sensitive to that negative energy because we want those around us to feel happy and positive.

At one point I went to different city (2 hours away) and everyone was nice but they were late 1 hour and a half and I had 18 people, I always send a schedule 🙄🙄 one person also thought I was going to be a plastic surgeon and wanted me to make her arms look slimmer 😂😂😂 some weddings man they take a lot from me !!!

Hi Julie, I’m in the process of condensing my kit and I have some of the artist kit co. Items. Have you noticed a difference the consistency of the powders you’ve repressed? I’ve tried hand pressing 2 blushes by hand but they’ve become very crumbly, and I’m wondering if I should invest in the 1 ton press 🤔

HI Maira! It definitely does help having an actual arbor press! I goofed and got the 1/4 ton one instead of 1 but it still doesn't the job. I tried hand pressing it to save me money, but my powders crumbled and didn't stay in the pan lol lesson learned! Go for the press girl :)
