HEY STUART / ANDY - I know this is 7 years old, but I'm wondering, why don't you turn your leg over? on the kick?

I noticed when you throw your leg kick you not pivoting your lead leg aren't you suppose to pivot your lead leg when throwing leg kick just in case your opponent block it you wont break your shin ?

Why doesn't he pivot his ground foot when he low kicks ? Is it some kind of variation ?
@warriorcollective7 жыл бұрын
As I have mentioned in another comment on this thread, the roundhouse kicks in Muay Thai are not all done exactly the same i.e. pivot to a certain degree. There are variations within these kicks which encompass different angles and uses. Here Andy is doing a fast kick that hits at a slight upward angle into the leg. This makes the kick fast and hard to read. It also hurts like hell!

Alright thanks for your response. I'll try it. Seems to be a real good one that doesnt compromise power for speed but has both.

You are welcome, definitely worth trying for sure!!

Is that low kick technique correct?I was taught that u should rotate ur shin so u connect with the middle of ur shin and also that ur pivot ur standing foot.You would probably know better than me judging from all this belts on the wall but it just seems wrong 😂

Emin Kumsuz Ive seen joe valtellini (glory fighter) perform his low kicks like this. he uses it to analyze opponents reactions, he knows it isn't a "proper" low kick. Similar to a pawing jab, it's primary use is to gauge opponent reactions, not damage.
@xraven5807 жыл бұрын
Emin Kumsuz it's also about the speed of low kick, this way it's twice as fast and you don't see it as much, Andy is Liam harrison cousin who is known for his disgusting low kicks and he kicks on the same way and look at his opponents legs. It's very effective way of low kicking.

Emin Kumsuz there is more than one way to low kick. As is with all kicks in Muay Thai. So long as the basics are concrete, it's a personal choice as to how it ends up on your opponents.

I like to teep the opponents thigh of his/her lead leg. Teep that one or 2 times and they'll be flinching every single time you lift your knee up. Opens them right up for a clean punch almost every time!
@warriorcollective7 жыл бұрын
Nice comments, I utilise the teep in exactly the same manner as you describe also!!

aparrently there are other advantages to the way he kicks. It's quicker, harder to distinguish from a mid kick, and as we see in this video is very useful for feignts It's a tradeoff.
@warriorcollective7 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video! A few people have already commented but from my point of view there are different applications of the low kick. Here, Andy is using the same sort of kick as his cousin Liam Harrison (current Yokkao World Champion) favours. The lack of pivot makes the kick faster and harder to read i.e. counter. It also hits repetitively to the same spot so is equally as damaging as the more widely taught variation where you pivot and cut through. The roundhouse kick within the Muay Thai system is not just one technique but a group of kicks that all have slight variations/angle differences to them.
