I remember hearing the crowes for the first time and thinking FINALLY some good bluesy rock and roll again!! It was a welcome change from the horrible synthesizer 80's. Saw them live about 10 yrs. ago and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen. Wish they never broke up :(

When they opened for Heart in Philadelphia, I was front row center, dancing and sweating my ass off. They had a Small Faces kinda groove that had this 275 lb biker up and out of my seat. I was thinking to myself " I know its only rock n roll " , " can't ya hear me knocking ", " 30 days in the hole " , " do you feel like we do ", " the shape I'm in " All of that good old rock n roll. Strap on, plug in, turn it up loud and hold on. They make music you can let go to.

This band has, by far, turned into the best rock'n'roll band of today, up there among bands like The Band, Allman Brothers and the Stones....and a few others of course. Loved their music since I first saw them at the Dugout at Emory back in the day, and seen them a bunch since. Chris is a massive stage presence and a musical genius. The Robinson Bros' uncompromising approach to everything has been hell for everyone to put up with and has limited the band's success, but that's the price paid for such music.

these guys are real, grew w/ them, waited for albums. i wrote them a letter and may have gotten it to them when they played state college PA around 04 or 05. i invited them to my hookah lounge which i named after a word i got from them that they got from jazz musicians. they never came down to THE TALL SHIVA HOOKAH LOUNGE but a few months after that show/invite the Robinson bros split up and Rich formed a band called Hookah Brown, thought that was cool and thought maybe he just liked "my" word.

Best studio ever? No WAY! Even Southern Harmony does not touch classics like Exile, Sticky, Bleed, Who's Next, or Quad, but maybe you meant bands today? Not sure they're "THE Best"?......BUT...... If I had to go to one concert a year, I can't think of a band I would put before them! Not even The Stones! (maybe 69-73) but not today! While they are simply going through the motions, The Crowes are truly feeling it up there. I like Jackie, and Luther, but will always miss Marc Ford. A LOT!

Have you ever experienced someone that you’d swear loves the sound of their own speaking voice? Like their mouth operates about 5 seconds ahead of their brain? Like they’re trying soo hard to come up with some profound point AFTER they’ve already started talking? That’s how I see Chris Robinson. I like their music. I like it a lot. But listening to Chris go on and on and on just makes me cringe. Not sure I’ve ever heard another musician sound so self important. Endless griping about people “not getting him” ? Good grief dude. What are you talking about? You’ve sold millions of records. Give me a break. Oh well, I’ll just stick to their records and try to avoid any of his interviews, cause that dude is a major drag and a real downer. Surprised someone hasn’t already punched his lights out. Peace.
@ericpigg26894 жыл бұрын
I get exactly what you are saying. I have seen the Crowes at least 3 times, maybe 4. Most of it was great, but if Chris is pissy, it is OVER. Saw them at a theatre here in my home town. Would have been on the By Your Side tour if I am not mistaken. The show was on a week night, in a city of less than 200k people, so do the math. During the first song, they turned on the house lights, and saw the house, which seats maybe 3500 was probably seating about 2000. You could tell from that moment on Chris was not happy, and it showed in the performance. No audience interaction, except when someone threw a t shirt on stage, and then we got s stopped song (which they didn't finish) and a profanity laced lecture about respect that lasted 2 minutes. I kept thinking how I would like a chance to scrap with his scrawny little ass. It really pissed me off. I kept thinking WHY are you pissed at us??? WE bought the tickets. WE are HERE! Go be pissed at someone who didn't come. Show ended with no encores, very few of the early hits, long winded jams, and him basically giving a quick half hearted good night. No thank you or other well wishes. I was kind of pissed at the Crowes for some time after that show.

Having read Steve Gorman's book Hard to Handle, one can now understand what Steve meant with his codependency issues of fellow bandmates The Black Crowes. Listening to this video it's very apparent Steve Gorman is kissing the Robinson's brothers asses. Steve figured he could brown nose his way into the band becoming more normal and cohesive. It's abundantly obvious Steve at this particular juncture in his career with the Robinson's has adopted the same mentality and philosophy of the Black Crowes, Chris and Rich Robinson if they ever had a 3rd brother it would be Steve Gorman. Steve played the charade very well. After the Robinson's kicked him out of the band, Steve needed to make sense of his tenure. It was during this process he realized he was codependent. It must have been very therapeutic to have written Hard to Handle .

The only thing that ticks me off about the Black Crowes is the way they’ve tried so hard to distance themselves from their Southerness. The first two albums are straight up southern rock albums and that means they are indebted to the southern rock tradition. But ever since Southern harmony came out they seem to have been put off by the southern association.
