Millions and millions of dead pine bark beetle killed trees....still had to pay to cut them down for firewood and were limited in amount allowed to cut. POOR NATIONAL FOREST MANAGEMENT!!! This disaster has been waiting to happen for 10 YEARS! Dead trees should have been removed! Better and more forest access roads! Heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to the people of Grand Lake and Estes Park...beautiful towns. Hope the Stanley Hotel survives this!

@@johnperic6860 I don't disagree. I just know that the Pine Bark beetle infestation really swept through while I was still living in the area (near Cheyenne). I would drive through Walden, CO regularly and saw the mountainsides turn brown with beetle-killed trees. If people had been permitted to remove them, perhaps some of this devastation could have been avoided, but the USFS would not allow it without payment and limitations on harvesting. Also the USFS policy of blocking off access roads and not maintaining existing old logging access roads surely impedes firefighter access to fires.

Because Colorado is a Democrat run state...Hmmm, is it just coincidence that it's the Democrat run states going up in flames and violence in the big cities, and now they're burning the open lands as well ? It's a plan people, just like Covvidd1199. The UN Agenda-21 was delayed, but is now in full swing since they have been exposed with all this destruction. I loved my visit to Estes Park back in 1991, but now it's time to let it go to the fires from the Democrats. THIS is how the Agenda-21 plan was designed, to literally burn people out of their homes and lands, and it is being funded by the likes of George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. They have their desire for power, and this is how they will get it. With NO PUSHBACK from any of the Democrat politicians that were bought and paid for by the Soros/Bloomberg money. So now you see the truth behind the Democrats allowing the BLM and ANTIFA chaos. They win, you LOSE...everything !

This is what happens when you F with nature. The intentional release of lodge pole pine beetle in the forest has wiped out MILLIONS OF ACRES of lodge pole pines (85% of CO forest is lodgepole pine), I was in the grand county woods in 2008,09,10 when we had a wood stove to heat our home and we lived just 45 mins from Grand County. It was devastated from beetle kill!!! Millions of trees dead, all trees pine needles dark red, stiff and dead! Millions and millions of acres of crimson pine forest, this was 10 years ago. Dry conditions and wind. it is easy for them to start, it happens all the time. If the wind is up there is little you can do to fight it, it’s just too fast moving and powerful. The towns are nested into the forested mtn/hillsides. Air suppression measures are used at key passes and breaks and they are effective for spread but that’s a few hundred yards at a time not thousands of acres.
