It a beautiful thing to watch an obviously decent man doing an honest days work

Jack, how many acres is that lime supposed to cover - about 1 ton / acre? (pH below 6.0 is really bad for crop performance). I suggest that you check this out this application rate with your fertilizer supplier and ask also about other essential minerals such as magnesium, manganese and sulphur. I ask because it does not sound like enough to me especially with barley which is particularly sensitive to soil acidity. I would think that on light sandy soils you will need to go again with a further dose in the early spring time next year. Remember also that lime is needed by all plants to make use of Nitrogen whether from natural or artificial sources such as urea or ammonium nitrate or sulphate. Dan

Hiya mate we have had all our field mapped so it will be put on with variable rate . And the lime has been ordered from our agronomists .
