My first attempt at making a tutorial for handpan - its not perfect but i was bored during lockdown so thought id give it a go after thinking about doing it for quite some time..

Hello Simon, thank you for your both Videos around this nice pattern. As I am not real deep in counting my question is ... how to real count and perform the provided pattern? You made a picture of the pattern ... R*** R*L* **L* R*L* ... I understand we are having a 4/4 Pattern. In testing and train with a metronome ... what will be your suggestion? - Klick on every beat? - Klick only on the downbeat? I am not have any music experience but like to discover more and more. Therefore my question to start deeper and get the into practicing the pattern/groove. BTW ... I like the connection to the Wording ( Boom Cha Boom Boom Ta Ka ). Hope you are healthy and save. thanks man ! i'd put the klick on every down beat . you could also put this into a drum sequencer - there are online ones like drum bit (dot) app - use kick and snare that way u can see the rhythm - put a hi hat on downbeats for click ! much more to come - check out my new 12/8 videos - more challenging but worth trying for fun. Counting : yes its: 16th notes 1234 1234 1234 1234 (4x4 =16beats) R*** R*L* **L* R*L*

I've recently discovered this musically fascinating instrument, and am exploring it here on KZbin, but what scares me from getting one is that it seems all the beginner video tutorials seem to have the pans, such as the one used in this video. I haven't seen any using the tongue drums, which are much more affordable at $40 to $50 and up. The steel pans, such as the one used in this video, begin at $300 and go into the thousands. I know we get what we pay for, but do you have any recommendations regarding gettingstarted with an affordable instrument? Thanks in advance!

sorry but im not into tongue drums myself but i do know people really rate the Rav vast as a high quality tongue pan and things like the yudin tongue drum sound decent but they are not exactly cheap. sadly its a case of u get what u pay for (unless u buy something thats sounds terrible for a high price which is still happening all the time). id say get on the facebook hadpan groups such as swap ands sale and ask for recommendations of good builders near you. 2 makers in USA making solid entry pans are sean beaver - iskra and colin foulke amongst others. in europe im not so sure . avoid ebay and amazon at all costs. maybe try and connect with a player near you and have a try/lesson of their instruments - see if its for you, befoee u start a journey of saving up as its not for everyone

@@SimonWoodMusic Thanks for taking the time to respond and explain exactly what I had suspected. I’ll need to dive deep into this before I know enough to make an educated guess as far as an initial purchase, and after spending a lot of money? It still might not be something I see any success in and subsequently enjoy. Like so many other things in life, we may appreciate and enjoy being entertained by particular things (musical instruments, comedy, painting, dance, sculpture... ) but that doesn’t mean we’ll ever be any good at it, no matter how much time and money we spend on the instrument, supplies, lessons, or other. I know I'm late but look novapan handpans they have the best cheap handpans I think, but it still cost somewhere around 500-600$
