What a nice land! Personally I suggest to turn it into a Paddock Paradise, 'cause pasture it may cause laminitis. The other advantage in paddock paradise is that horses move a lot more to find food spots and water, keeping them more fit. There are plenty ideas on KZbin about possible setups even in smaller areas. Check it if you like the idea. :)

Beautiful set up !! But just be aware horses can kick through metal siding and that can be horrific. It is wise to put wood half way up. Otherwise it so nice.

Yep! The video mentioned still needing kickboards. Thank you!

Very nice!! We built hay feeders for our round bales that we can load with tractor from the aisleways. BUT around the feeders are a muddy/poop mess!! Looking for solutions and this may work for us!! Not that big of an area. Thank you! Like your farm name 😉 Blessings from Virginia! ~jc

Great job... you should look into setting up a horse track (paddock paradise) looks like your property is perfectly set up for it.

I have never seen horses pee burning the grass before but I have heard it could mean too much protien in their diet.

Hello You guys did an excellent job. And congrats on the new horses. Is there anyway I can send you a couple of pics. I would like to know in your honest opinion if the geotextile fabric and 3/8 stone would help this situation?

How many acres do you have total for grazing?

The gravel looks uncomfortable to lay down on and there's no area for them to roll on.

If you put down fabric,, why is their grass growing up I the paddock area. Thanks liked your video.

Seeds could have reached the ground on the wind or through horse poop, etc. rather than up through the fabric :)

Would the rock mixture with some kind of sand work to make softer or is that not healthy?
@TheHomesteadTrail
@TheHomesteadTrail 2 жыл бұрын
The resources I followed only recommended rock; I am guessing since it’s where the horses are eating they’re trying to avoid sand colic.

Hi. Did you use ArmorLay Commercial Grade Driveway Fabric, Stabilization Underlayment under the gravel?

Love your set up, but as a 45 year horse owner the only thing I would add, for safety is four foot wall on the lower half of your run in shed walls in case they kick in there they don't put a hoof through the steel siding. I'm a big believer in, if you think it could happen, IT WILL someday. All my sheds have it and all you need is 3/4 inch treated plywood.

wow this is EXACTLY what I want to set up for my pony and cob. Thank you so so much for posting this video. Do you think the gravel would hurt a barefoot new forest pony feet ? ( he sometimes gets footsore on the roads with that typa gravel ) Thanks again!
@TheHomesteadTrail
@TheHomesteadTrail 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The palomino is always shoed on the front due to navicular syndrome, but the standardbred has always been barefoot. I’m sure some horses are more tenderfooted than others, but we haven’t had any issues. Thanks for watching!

If the sacrifice lot was double that size do you think it would sustain a small horse and mini/donkey year round on free choice hay? I would be exercising the horse multiple times a week as well. Just trying to see if it is at all possible to move my horse to my house with small acreage. And I know the grass would not sustain a horse which is why I would do free choice hay and ration balancer. Thank you!

its more like 10 ft wide that run in and its a horse fight nightmare! soz to be crude but these tips are crucial for safety and injury prevention

You should do a track system like a paddock paradise.

Hi. Totally enjoyed your video. On your 5 wire electric fence, why is 4 wires hot and 1 not. Could all 5 be hot. Curious. Thanks

Hi, thanks for watching. No expert, but my understanding is if your soil is constantly moist enough you can have all the lines be hot; we have dry spells in summer so we opted for the ground wire return setup.
