That's kind of genious! I've used ceramic bearings in the past, but they are kind of expensive. The other thing I've done is replace the plastic wheel spacer with aluminum. When the plastic wears, it can eventually rub causing more friction.

LOL I started racing a Tamiya Grasshopper many moons ago. What an improvement you have in today's RC Cars. I remember one of the first mods I did to the Grasshopper was getting rid of the nylon bearings and installing the sealed metal bearings. Then the next mod was getting rid of the stock tie rod ends that popped off just looking at them. I replaced them with the type found on this Traxxas. After watching your post I am thinking of getting back into it. I have a lot of stuff already and was wondering what everyone was running. Now I know. I'm only an hour away from Harrisburg and liked watching them race at the Farm Show complex. I still have the Grasshopper but it's set up to race on asphalt. The lipo batteries are so much better also but you already knew that.

Great idea , We used to do the same thing on our racing go karts . We would take brand new bearings and take all the grease out of them and we had a special lubes that we sprayed on them . We also put a removable cover on the bearings so that we could easily clean and lubes them without taking them apart . But your correct, it all adds up in quicker lap times . Thanks for the great info .

Nice. Keep em coming. My track we have to run the stock blue seal bearings so ceramic or aftermarket bearings isn’t an option. All the little .1 or .05 seconds add up. Subscribed.

I just leave those (seals)off entirely for racing... I usually just get better bearings from McMaster-Karr and toss those cheap things or just use them for practicing. ..and get metal hexes.. the plastic ones will cause drag as they wear. Speaking of practice... that is what it really takes... run a million laps if you want to really get good !

If you want every bit of speed even at the expense of reliability/ plan on replacing your bearings often you can skip oiling the bearings.. A dry bearing will spin longer then one that's been oiled just like oiled bearings spin faster then greased ones but dry ones will rust much quicker.. Just thought I'd mention it as it's something people do to baitcaster fishing reels opposed to buying aftermarket ceramic bearings but fish reels don't see the constant high rpms that an rc does.. It might help or you could loose a bearing mid race.. its up to you if it's worth it..

This is nice! Just broke the LT rear bearing carriers (spindle) on BOTH my kids 2wd Slashes last night so I’ll be taking those apart and just saw how it’s done and to boot a great trick to free up some extra speed. One Slash is going to just be a big basher but the other one is headed for track duty eventually so this mod will be put to good use and came at a great time. Thanks for a great mod Mark!

Jeff Bryner that’s exactly the plan. Even my LHS handed me RPM when we broke the rear bulkhead at the top shock mount. I called to see if he had the Traxxas part in stock so I could go get it right away. I get there and he hands me the RPM part saying “it’s just what ya do.” Lol

Jeff Bryner what kills me is seeing the Losi Tenacity 4wd RTR Short Course Truck now only $200! Still not sure the race bread Losi would stand up to bashing and mistakes as well as Traxxas but when that is what I spent w 2wd trucks... daaaang. Does RPM also make parts for Losi?
@jeffbryner5355
@jeffbryner5355 4 жыл бұрын
@@JFlyer1973 yes they do. Traxxas is proud of there stuff and want u to use only there stuff. I bash a sc10 myself. Losi is just as good. I raced a losi buggy as a kid and it was a great car. I race team associated sc5m and a sc6.1 now .my kids have slashes for bashing and my associated products are way more durable imo. The good thing about traxxas is parts support. Everyone carries parts for traxxas. Especially the slash and rustler

As cheap as these bearings are you get one that gets gritty toss it and put the new bearing in. No use trying to get them to come back because most likely they won't return to what they were before.

Mark, two questions... Do you do anything to remove slop from the steering? Seems like the rod ends are pretty loose on a new truck. Second, do you have a preference for softening the hard Rubber. I have tried poppa willies but I can't take the odor. I'm looking for something I could do to soak them once and be done. Otherwise I'll just try some of the softer compound stock tires. Thanks for the RC coverage! Jim

You can't take up slop or play in the steering in the mudboss class.. legally. I start prepping my tires 5 weeks before racing season starts. Once a week. apply prep and stick in a zip lock bag .. usually do the same the night before a race

You can get bearings for the steering rack. I don't know the size off hand but, on the white steering rack there are 4 plastic spacers remove those and insert the bearings in their place.

Mudboss class rules usually require you to use stock parts.. Some track rules require the blue seals.. plus outfitting the truck with aftermarket bearings can cost as much as the truck. If you put the time in you don't have to spend money to win.. This is just the start of my prep work.

@@OvalRC oh i understand. Great video too. I got a set of good bearing for my sc10 pro mod for 65 bucks from my lh. Tranny and all. Sure this way works and is cheaper im just lazy and can afford to buy new to save me time. hahaha. Now if u have to run stock bearings then i can see that but in my state no one runs mudd boss's. pro mods are all ae or tlr with erc or bbe carbon chassis custom works adjustable arms open motor and tires etc..
